Sure enough, the same thing on the thou, would have been very different, but YOU, of all people have to admit, it's NOT the same thing on the thou. On a powerfull bike, it is easy to hoist, and requires little offort. When riding a half fucked 400, it requires dedication, and clutch abuse.
My point is this, on the 400, I'm doin 20/40k's, pullin the clutch in, revving it to hell, slipping it out, and waiting as long as it takes for the wheel to get high enough for me to control it with the throttle.
The thou' however, I twist the throttle, and it's on. It has the power, that means I dont need to be on the limit to keep it there. That is why, although I am aware of the risks, and I accept them, it is a very different ball game.
As for me saying, "I think it's time I toned it down on the road", I have! I make it my religion now, to take any corner at a pace I can hold my own lane on. This may sound impossible to the Aukland crowd, but you should all realise, we only ride TWO twisty roads fast. And they are both short enough to know like a race track. Any other road I ride, I am well conservative, to the point, that I didn't overtake Dover last weekend while on a ride up your neck off the woods.
How is it more dangerous than taking out the pit bike?
Very similar speeds, and I atleast have access to a rear brake while it's up there.
On the off chance your post was a piss take Bro, try it in better taste next time.
It sounded like brotherly love and a friendly reminder to all of us mate!
He wouldn't be much of a brother if he didn't say it.
Take it easy where there's traffic.
We'll get my 450 out with you one day if you want.....wheelies for as long as the beach....flat out in top......all good!
Spose so, hypocracy (sp) aint big with me tho, and it aint like either of us ever take anything seriously, so no one will be offended by the other.
I cant wheelie a dirt bike on a grass paddock, but I had a blast on the new V twin Aprilia motard couple weeks ago, and it's much easier on an even surface.
Surprisingly though, there is more of a knack to doin it on them than I'd have thought. Initial hoist is a piece of piss as high as third gear, but when it gets near the ballance point, the rear shock extends, and it becomes quite twitchy. I mean it comes over on ya real quick, then ya shut it off, and the shock copresses again while the front drops, so reapplying the gas causes the prosess to start again. Throttle control has to be super smooth, I take my hat off, and appologise to the guys\girls who do it well, for never having giving it the respect they deserve.
To date, the easiest bike to look like a wheelie king apon, that Ihave ridden at least, is a litre sized sports bike, my K2 gixxer more specifically, torque for africa, and baulk to remain stable.
You'll have a new wheelie favorite when you ride my 450. Trust me.
Even one tooth up on the front sprocket it'll hoist the front wheel in top.
I've had mine on our dyno, it's as crisp as.....perfect throttle response, and enough engine braking to make the rear brake lever redundant.
Can do bro, probably should have a master handy to analize my attempts at explaining what goes on though. I have real trouble getting a clear picture accross.
Be a good idea tho, cos you've got the slow stuff well more sorted than I do, but I can change gear, and sit on the tank. A merge of style could only improve things
Sounds cool man, time and place will ensure my attendance. Wonder how the gixxer will hook up on the sand.....
Have to say that while the high speed wheelies are impressive, the constant speed/low speed ones are awesome. Maybe its knowing they are difficult, but also that you see the wheelie for much longer.
Why are the low-speed ones more difficult (if indeed they are)?

Have toKarma ... Justice catches up eventually !!
They are considerably more difficult, because ya need to be right on the point of balance, this is impossable on a moving object, so what you infact do, is go past the balance point and slow down a bit, which inturn brings you back below the bp, wher you gas on a touch. Up down, up down, but you want to do it looking as smooth as poss.
I think I'm half way there, because on the gixxer, I can infact slow down from around 120k's, to well below 100. And now that I've started clutchin it up in second around 50k's I can keep it below 70, for quite a while.
On the stunt hack, I'm hoping the reduced fear (caused by having it real low geared, so slow as hell) will help me with goin past the balance point for extended periods, and use the brake to stop it from tipping.
Makes sense. Cheers. Lookin forward to seeing this hack (and his bike) in action.
