To an outside culture think about how weird westerners can seem; we have people who put their faith into a positive mind positive confession culture of success magical powers of the mind, others beleive in a Jewish God with a Greek name who can openly communicate with them – they believe in curses and blessings and the power of an omnipotent being. Why rubbish the things of the Spirit realm when its expressed as a Maori concept - with out understanding it.
Sorry mate it sounds like a load of crap to me..... More likely the little toe rag was half out of his nut on P.

Is that the new Maori sickness..... And I am allowed to abuse them as I have my fair share of that blood floating around in my system and this sort of crap makes me ashamed to admit it.

I feel like I'm diagonally parked in a parallel universe.

Just let me try and understand this.

If I fail to acknowledge that a spiritual belief led this man to commit a crime, then I am a racist.

If I do accept this claim then the next time I commit a crime, say speeding, I should be able to claim that my Catholic upbringing is to blame. I was raised a Catholic and such believe in heaven and hell and the devil. If the devil, in my belief system is the source of all evil then by commiting a crime I am being led astray by the devil and not responsible for my actions.

Yes I can just see the judicial system acepting this as my defence, "the devil made me do it, your honour. Therefore I am not responsible for my actions and cannot be held accountable".

What a load of fucking bollocks.

This seems to be another case of finding some way to frighten the tree hugging fraternity into giving in to emotional blackmail. eg If we say it is "cultural" they will give up and go away.

The politically correct left wing in our society may be frightened by such obvious crap but surely the majority of the populace cant help but see this claim for what it really is....

    ANOTHER LOAD OF BULLSHIT.

So where's the racism on this thread? Racism, my friend, is a belief that a certain race is inferior to another race. End of story. And which is the Jewish god with a Greek name, pray tell? And who are you to say that we don't understand the Maori concept of the spirit realm?

Picture this: I go on Berserkgang /google it/ in a farking shopping mall, I go to court. I try and use it as an excuse. I don't get very far. As opposed to MS, which looks like it was partially accepted by the court as an explanation at least, if not an excuse.

So the discrimination here is against me because I am not Maori.

Oh, and btw, I think that REJECT actually tarnished your precious Maori spirituality by even trying to bring it up as a defence for his aggresive, shitfaced, P fuelled or otherwise behavior.

End of "civilised, un-insecure, un-seditious argument. HOWGH!

Racism is an overused, tangent word to what it means originally.
I am a racist - i dont disrespect for culture, religion, or ideals. Yet i am also stuck with a problem.
How can i respect the people, not the ones that follow their culture, but the people who use it like a lever for their life. I cant. I don't want to live with bludging, whining, un-cultured wannabe's. Why should i, its my life as much it is theirs.
But you see, because i have now separated a large group of people i dont want to associate with - im now a racist.
Well tough taro suckers, cos unlike you - i really dont give a fuck what people say or think. I live my own life, i follow my own tradition, i have my own culture - so until you respect mine, why should i respect yours.

The court heard the case brought against the particular offender, who pleaded guilty, and setenced him to 9 months imprisonment, likely to be reduced to home detention.

The Rev. offered an explanation, not an excuse, as to why the offender commited the crimes. Regardless of what was said after or before hand, the offender plead guilty!

No special treatment was given, he never asked for any (according to the news articles) and justice was served.

    This is a racist thread.

I have demonstrated why: You have all failed to be objective about the topic, instead it has become another Maori bashing thread.

"Racism is a belief system or doctrine which postulates a hierarchy among various "human races" or ethnic groups. It may be based on a conception assuming inherent biological differences between different ethnic groups, which would be purported to determine cultural or individual behaviour."

And again, how is this thread racist?

You're not capable of actually arguing a point.

So how much did the Rev's evidence affect the sentence?

Without it would this person be looking at home detention?

How has this turned into a bashing thread?

Why, when a view is given and it fails to conform to what other persons deem correct does it degenerate into racism?

Where have you demonstrated anything apart from the belief in your own self importance?

Where have you entered honestly into a reasoned debate and not resorted to rhetoric and "name calling.?

I have a gut feeling that discussing anything with you will prove fruitless.

I'm interested in talking with intelligent and enthusiastic people who have the desire to find the truth, not validate ones own conceived truths.

No, mate, you're interested in talking with people who have the desire to find your truth and thereby prove that they are intelligent and enthusiastic brown nosers.
Have fun. I too am done trying to actually have a debate with you.

But only if the discussion entails mutual back slapping and sychophantic behaviour.

How on earth can one one engage in reasonable debate when as soon as you contradict or disagree with your views you resort to childlike behaviour.
