BTW take note everyone, the tactic you have just seen probably comes from a government manual titled "Browbeating people with uncomfortable opinions into submission". Is white is bad. Am bad. Am sorry.

But now to the one question that really bothers me:

IS THE ONE-EYED TANIWHA REALLY GOING TO COME AND EAT ME NOW?

I do not know how much of an effect the Rev.'s comments may or may not of had.

    In my opinion, yes.

I have a background in this area (from an enforcement perspective) and most offenders, if the home environment is suitable, will be granted home detention.

Hans has already asked this question and provided an answer.

An opinion is one thing, making comments (such as Hans regarding the Waitangi Tribunal deleting this thread) is completely different and a comment can be defined as a racist one more easily than a 'racist opinion' can be defined for the reasons you've outlined.

Okay, so you're more interested in making this a personal "my opinions valid, your opinion is not" discussion.

I'm done with this thread, enjoy the new day.

I was hoping to stimulate sensible and reasonable debate where a number of persons having diferent views could openly discuss them without being brow beaten or ridiculed.

I obviously struck a chord by suggesting that your attempts at such were childlike. I appologise for suggesting that you were incapable of actually debating a point rather than pontificating a view.

How can we, in this country, every achieve some sort of mutual respect and understanding when faced with reactionary and knee jerk relatiation. As a child I was demanding and domineering, as an adult I learnt to listen to the views of others and try to understand them. This came about though social intercourse and dialogue not but being spoonfed severly outdated and biased rhetoric, and expected to accept such as derigour.

I am perfectly willing to discuss the thread and its ramifications but find it impossible to do so when faced by reactions as quoted.

I think we should let him off, he has maori sickness and this country is too gutless to prove him wrong.
Infact if we have to charge him, give him parole - Whats the worst he could do - kill a couple of mountainbikers?

And again, how is this thread racist?

Apply to the Waitangi Tribunal to get this thread deleted, if you must.
It would be racist if people are blaming 'Maori' in general, for the actions of one particular Maori perhaps ?

    My 2 cents.

This might be what a lot of NZrs think they see is the norm, or think they know - but it's deffinately racist, isn't it?

    whats racism?

Really we’re talking about ethnocentrism; People are comfortable with and prefer people who are like themselves, who share similar values and behaviors. When people look at the world from the perspective of one's own culture and interpret all behaviour from that perspective only.
Don Brash often stated he isn’t racist because he treats everyone in an equal way – just as long as it’s his white middle class colonialist way.
It's that sentiment that is coming thru loud an clear in the comments following the original post.
I found the original post funny. I’m not suggesting that Mate Maori is any defence at all – but read the article – nor was the Rev. Yes the artical was funny and no I don't beleve in their ideas.

It's only racism if a honkie says it
