Im a Kiwi (both pakeha and Maori) and i had no idea what maori mate was all about, so instead of going off and getting annoyed by everyone elses thoughts on the subject i tohught id enquire more about it. As far as i can understand maori mate is comparable to being infected by a poltergeist, both are of the supernatural realm and seem to be pretty much bullshit unless you have witnessed first hand. (i have witnessed neither first hand)

So... charge the fulla with the crime as he did commit it, then if he can be healed by kaumatua etc, then he should be allowed to contest the charges - good luck on that tho when your defence is supernatural reasons, would be better to plead insanity.

And for the chap whom discharged his firearm in defence - charge him also as he committed a crime.
