It was worthy of mention, even if, strictly speaking, it appears it wasn't due for a repost until 2008...

A few years back now some of my workmates made them up. They need to be printed out at least double size (A3 instead of A4) or they are too fiddly to make and rip too easily. This info might help anyone planning on building one. Look pretty good when they're finished.

I finally finished the R1. It's about 3 years after I started, but there were big gaps where I didn't do any work on it at all, and when I did work on it I only did a little bit at a time.

The final assembly didn't go all that well, the swingarm was about 3mm too wide for the frame, the fairing was pretty awkward to put on and I had to unglue a few bits to get them in the right place.

I like it, it's quite unique. Dunno if I'll build another one any time soon though.

    Brilliant work!

All you have to do now is colour it.

Is there someplace where I could get the plans printed onto cardboard at a 1:1 scale? A life-sized cardboard R1 in the lounge would be pretty cool.

I'm not entirely convinced that Yamaha's efforts to cut the weight of their bikes won't affect the build quality...

Glue? Real origami doesn't use glue. Even cutting the paper is a bit suspect ...

This is just conventional model making.

[Edit: Not that it's not impressive model making; it's just not origami]
