Thumbs up Fun ' games in Tauranga

Was getting cabin fever this morning so popped over the kaimai's to see another KBer. Took the Waihi road home, stuck to all the speed limits (50 points is enough thanks) and thoroughly enjoyed it even thought it was bucketing rain. First time I've been out in the bike since one of the local yoofs knocked me off a few weeks back. Bike seems fine apart from the fairing cracks

    Anyways....
Passed an SUV coming out of the roundabout (coming from Matamata on SH29, the one next to the toll road gates) as it's two lanes and goes up a hill. Carries on up the road minding my own business, took a right into Pye Pa Road.

Tootling along trying to remember if the turn off is the third or fourth on the right. Looks in rear mirror and I swear to Gawd an SUV is about 6 inches off my rear tyre. Checked speedo, I'm doing 52 (bad boy eh!). "WTF" thinks I. I put my left hand down pointing to the ground in a friendly "slow down" gesture. SUV blats horn. "fuggim" thinks I. I've spotted the turn off anyway so indicate right. Left hand up to wave bye bye to him (again, no 1 finger salute or anything as he's in a rather large vehicle). "Wanker" shouts our SUV driving friend out the side window. End of story thinks I but no....

Looked left and noticed he's indicating right and looks like he's gonna pull a U-turn. Not wanting to bring him and the aggro back to a fellow KBer's place I pull a U-turn and go further along the road. Pull into a sidestreet at random. SUV driver follows me and pulls up in front of me. I sit on bike till he gets out and I can ascertain that there's only one person in the SUV and he's not got a weapon. Shouts "have you got fu#kin airbrakes?" towards him. Calm down a little (a.k.a. the red mist dissapates) and get off the bike.

Ask him what his problem is. The guy starts ranting and raving about "blasting past him in the 80 zone after the roundabout. "So what? I overtook you says I, why were you driving up my arse". "You shot past me and then drove really slowly". I tell him I was merely following the speed limit and if he wanted to speed through town he could pass me whenever he liked. What followed was much tooing and fro'ing about what was his problem with being passed. I also told him I never saw an 80 sign. He then whines about my doing 50 in a 60. I told him I didn't know it was a 60, that I was looking at the street naems to find a turn off, and thats it was still no reason to drive right up my arse. He carries on ranting, I carry on telling him he shouldn't drive right onto my rear tyre, etc.

I eventually give up, apologise, tell him "he's correct, sorry, etc" and then get back on bike. Some folk there's no reasoning with. His parting shot was glowering at me and muttering something about "I've got your number". F@ck knows what that meant, maybe he's sending the boys round tonight.

Curiosity got the better of me on the way home so I took a detour via the toll road. The 50 was a 60 (he was right and I'd apologised about this anyway) and as far as I could see the 80 was a 100 (I was right). In any event, I don't think I'd hit much more than 80 in the 100 zone anyways as I was following other cars.

Didn't spoil my day's riding though.

I can still never understand the point in tailgating...

so this farktart pull over to moan and groan at you for going to slow? Now it took him even longer to get to where he is going?

You do not have to drive AT the speed limit. As the adverts say "drive to the conditions" and you appear to have been doing just that. You did get the rego of SUV boy's small-penis-carrying roadwhale I hope?

This is what you get for wearing those high-viz leathers of yours mate. Easy for dickheads like this to spot you.

Nah, what's the point? I honestly hope he goes home, calms down and maybe sees it from a more vulnerable motorists point of view.

And shh...for work I drive an SUV thingie. My only excuse is that it's small, only 1.8litres and the crazy farmers around here seperate their cows from the road with a battery and a wee piece of string. Plus there's been 2 occasions in the last year and a half where without the 4wd I'd have definately been stuck on some of my more rural customers properties.

Nah, my last run-in with Jonny law (you know, when they pulled me instead of a certain Hornet riding KBer) meant that I no longer wear the high vis vest during the day. Even had my black skid lid as opposed to the white flippy uppy one.

Wondering if local yoof wouldn't have pulled out in front of me had I been wearing high vis vest though....

FFS...you just can't win can you?

If there is a roadside "discussion" and, certainly in this case, there is the other driver making it known that he "has your plate number"...
It is nice to have that little bit of information jotted down somewhere just in case you are paid a visit. You have something of substance to take to the and also give to your insurer.
Hopefully the driver has simply taken a chill-pill and thought rationally about it all.

Tauranga is shocking for road rage - especially the Kaimais. I should know, Cajun and I lived up McLaren Falls Road for 17yrs

You are right about the speed limit though - it goes from a 100 to a 70 zone, then back to a 100 once you're out of Tauriko. Good on ya for riding to the conditions

Since we've lived in town, I've actually had agro dickheads pull into my drive behind me... After that occurence, I now ride to the nearest gas station if I think someone is tailing me.

No one can give u shit for going too slow. Its a speed limit not a min speed.
Tga, as nice as it is - is full of wankers that drive 4wd. Find it hard to visit the family these days without giving the finger to atleast 1 of em these days.
And that 80k speed limit from kati to tga just pisses me off even more.
