I just use water and a soft cloth. On visor I definately only use water with microcloth, and then use plexiglass to polish it.
"Speak in short, homely words of common usage"
My offroad helmet doesn't have a removable liner and I occasionally wash it with mild detergent in warmish (but not hot) water. Takes a few days to dry tho!
Some days you are the bug, some days you are the windshield
Clean it with a mild detergent or even a non-conditioning shampoo!
The rinse thoroughly.
You can speed up the drying process by first pressing the foam inside with clean dry towels or cloths to get rid of as much moisture as possible. Then lie it on its side and use a fan or hairdryer on cold (or very low heat) to blow air into it.
There are aerosol sprays specifically designed for cleaning and/or deodorising helmets, but I'd imagine they probably leave some residue.
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
Why bother!! No one else does!!

Helmet on head
Sit on bike
Find a carwash
It'll do the bike and if you do it right you'll get a reasonably rough approximation of a handjob at the same time
...or... mild detergent solution, wet the shell of the helmet with an old cloth (wet cloth draped over it works well) leave it for a bit to "hydrate" the gunk/bugs/guts
Wipe down with mild detergent solution
Wipe with fresh water on rag.
Visor deserves similar treatment, but wash it first so the crap off your helmet isn't added to the visor. I pledge mine, but someone on here warned of Pledge making the visor go brittle?
$2,000 cash if you find a buyer for my house, kumeuhouseforsale@straightshooters.co.nz for details
Baby shampoo in the shower works for me.
Thanks people, sounds like I ain't too far off the mark.
Water blaster
Then again, I usually get uncommonly filthy on the kwad.
My liner is removable, dish soap in a bucket does the trick.
Don't!!!
Just use fly spray to kill anything that itches - or buy a new one.![]()
Have to be careful what I wash it in too. If it fades, it won't match the wheels.
