Ooops! sorry buddy -next time promise!

Nigel is a driver for Thrillseekers Adventures at Hanmer, maybe we could organise a WNR up that way in the New Year?:scooter:

I'd be up for that! Wouldn't get much soaking time in tho :innocent:
Or maybe do a Sat or Sun ride up there, take the whole day, ride, soak, ride.

Its not that far past waikari in time compared to going to the greta... the Hurunui pub would be a good stop as well..

worst thing I was in Amberley most of Wednesday catching up with some people and stopped in at Waipara as well... if only I had waited longer...

Hanmer would be a good over night stop... some great roads up here

That sounds like a good idea. Sunday soaking in the pools would be brilliant!

Hi all, just a quick note in case anyone is interested, I'm selling my camera setup, the whole shebang, with 3 bullet cameras, HDD recorder, case, cables, battery, power adapters, chargers etc plus more if I can find it in my cupboard.

I also have a second hand Gopro HD that I bought 'cause it was cheap but came into a few unexpected dollars so will combine that with selling this and buy one new, supporting local business and all that.

Both going cheap, would love them to go to one of you lot who will have fun with them.

Feel free to get in touch, chat, make an offer etc

Does every man and his dog run this ride these days?

Let the Anarchy begin.... will probably do my own thing methinks over dyers and gebbies, where the roads have bends in them.

This is an internet forum what do u expect, what bitching and moaning has there been on the actual ride or while we are assembled at BK, please inform us all....

lets have a girls ride, and let boys join us if they want too...

Well, that is not working together now is it?

Wow people are quiting the rides because of comments made?

No one has to follow the route to where we are going and could meet us all there. This has been quite good as it provides others with the thrill etc that they want.

so it kind of floats most peeps boat....

I thought that KB stood for Kiwi Biker forum not Kiwi Bitchy forum and people say the the English are whinging, they don`t have a patch on Kiwi`s

If someone is good enough to take time out of there busy day to ring around and sort somewhere for 30+ bikers to turn up to be fed and watered and has taken the time to organize a ride that will cater for 99% of the riders on that ride. this is not an organized event just a few like minded bikers that say we are riding from here to there and anyone is welcome to join us.
we have lost a lot of the older more experienced riders due to this sort of BS and as soon as we start to get some of them back they are reminded why they stopped coming in the first place
if people cut the BS for a few minutes then they may learn something you never know stranger things have happened.
And thats my 11 cents worth

Yeah, kind of agree, far too much yap for a ride that only takes a couple of hours.

Last weeks ride to Greta was more like what I would consider a 'normal' wed night ride, a destination decided and everybody heading in the same direction by the same route.

All this discussion and people heading in different directions makes my feeble little brain hurt, I just want to join the bunch and follow the person in front without having to think about which group I've ended up riding with.

Lol you lot are just so fun. Actually i was offering a sugestion was all. But thats all good Hornet maybe you could come up with a new alternative route or destination for next week. It seems to be that if a decent route is not half planned you all bitch and moan about overpriced drinks, no or crap food, flat streight roads, etc. Just turning up at BK and thinkin it can be done there and then is stupid. We did greta last week eh but since they resealed a big part of it yesterday you prob would give it a miss but if noone checked or called ahead and we went there this week you would all say its not orginised enough...

It's disappointing watching all the bitching that's been going on this year. What scares me is that this seemed to work better when shy little me was in charge.

We've lost some destinations, which doesn't help at all, but we had a tried and true system developed over the last 3 years and it just seems to have been forgotten.

First of all, regroups are important, not only to ensure that everyone gets there, but it makes it feel like a group ride. A lot of people have said they haven't felt like group rides lately. In saying that, I realize those at the front of the group get frustrated waiting around with the huge groups that have been turning up. One way to deal with it would be to have a "middleman". Once the middleman arrives at the regroup, the front half carries on and the middleman waits for tail end to carry on. Of course this effectively divides the group in 2 and requires someone with half a brain to play middleman. I dunno, may not work too well.

As for routes Maybe we need to return to the system we had last year whereby we had half a dozen standard routes and rotated, with something a bit different now and then. Of course the earthquake has dealt to a couple of our routes, the most contentious being duvauchelles.

What is wrong with little river pub? It's ideal because it means those less inspired can stop there while rest of us carry on to duvauchelles/akaroa/wherever and back to join them. I know some people have mentioned not liking little river pub but I've never had a problem there.

In the end it's pretty simple: if we're not taking the same route to the same destination then we're not part of the same group are we

Yep, you left a void that I thought had been filled at the start of the season, hence my earlier comment. I simply asking the question.

R1Madness, I also do not think that it is appropriate for a self promoting Motorcycle Shop owner [it is in all of your posts] to start directing the ride, unless the said person / business is going to sponsor the food and drinks at the end??

But that is just my opinion - not bitching.

Also remember that in the past there was always a ride going to Duvauchelles as an alternative so you could choose either the standard ride wherever it went or the Duva ride.

this is my thoughts as well , i rock up see where its going. If i don't like it . i do my own thing. mostly over the hill. with out someone telling me what to do, or how to ride. I always stop for a beer at one of three pubs, then go home, DONE i"ve had my bike fix for the week.
unless there corners involved i wont go, as i put in around 600km a week in a cage for work.

So is the WNR ride to Akaroa?

It sounded the most popular, just different ways to get there and where to stop and eat.

Dave-
7th December 2010, 20:46
The ride has got too big, some people want a committee, some people want a chilled out ride where we sort of make it up as we go, some people dont like some people, some people dont like where we go, some people dont like how we get there, some people dont like how others are riding.

Best I can do is run a ride that caters to the majority and the small percentage of people who want to do something a bit different are welcome to do so, just make sure you come tell me before the "breifing", so I can tell people and they wont end up following you and getting lost.

phoenix, I've tried splitting the ride into 2, didnt work out really...

fireliv
7th December 2010, 21:05
Well, I'm glad that you are glad. Comments like these are very... helpful?? :violin:

Neither was your pathetic comment....in the first place.

When Tristan, Ryan and I ( yes hornet a founding rider) started this we did so wanting to find a place to make friends and have a ride. Sadly shit has happened which made me not want to ride, most of it the crap on this site and thread ( I only come on this site to check this thread..)

I miss the easiness the ride used to have. Phoenix has always stated the general rules. It seams that a few fuckwits have forgotten why this ride exists- to share in a passion we are all have, enjoy a group ride and enjoy the company. Its disappointing Hornet to get on this thread (was thinking I might try and make this one as I hear the last one was good) and see you taking about anarchy without giving r1 a chance (who was willing to put some effort in). Now Phoenix tells me you are a nice guy and i do remember meeting you when you did ride a hornet but right now I think you are a apart of the problem.

Maybe I will come along in the new year sometime have a good ride all those who go this week.

Well – congratulations, this is more or less what I suggested weeks ago. Once any group gets beyond a certain size, it’s quite normal for dissent and disorder to ensue.

There are two distinct types of people turning up at BK and both have quite different expectations. The first subgroup I would describe as: “People into slow synchronous pootling off to…(Pubs, Cafés etc). For brevity I refer to this subgroup as “PISSPOTs”. The second subgroup I would describe as: Racy, anarchic, troublesome boys and girls. For brevity I refer to this subgroup as: “RATBAGs”.

Since the beginning of time these types of groups have always been at loggerheads. As long as the overall turnout is, say, 30 or more bikes, I think the best overall solution is to get a divorce and split into WNR-P and WNR-R rides.

I suggest that the WNR-R subgroup should start its own forum and meet at McDonalds Sydenham before f*cking off over Dyers pass or wherever else the rats want to go…

No offence intended to anyone - just a bit of common sense wrapped up with a bit of fun :D

Hey Rik/Ian would be good to catch up been a while!!

Well that is why I was going to do a WNR.
To catch up with you lot before Christmas.

There was a discussion on where to ride to and where to stop to eat and drink.
Seemed quite innocent to me.
And out of the blue (to me) a few started to talk about people being bitchy?
Must have missed something that happened in the past?

So I lost interest and did what I normally do.
And went for a nice wee ride by my self.

I ride to relax and unwind.

Some of you need get out to ride more and stay off the net.

And I hope to catch up with those of you I know and have a good Christmas.
And hope to see you guys at Woodstock.

what a good ride, sorry about the dyers pass, I forgot to mention I'd be going that way, and that we wouldnt be stopping at halswel but I think everyone worked that out later.

I got to duvauchelle and couldnt be bothered going to akaroa, thermal gloves under my riding gloves made it feel like my fingers were big unweildy sausages, and my tyres were so cold they were slipping in corners which was annoying me.

dude are you a nubee to the rides? I led them for most o last year and put my name up so that everyone knows who they are talkin to rather than hide behind a fake id and a fake reputation. Sure i got plenty to say but at least i can back it up with over 20 years of industry experience 14 years racing and 6 nz titles as head mechanic and 4 times national drag champion as well as being interested in passing on technical riding tips that can only be gained from actually riding and working on motorcycles.

where did hornet post that? is it a PM?

I'm pretty out of ideas where to go this week guys, but I did go over evans pass and the bays roads and they're 99.99% gravel and roadworks free, there's still a 30kph spot on evans where the road merges in both directions, but I think if we're all careful then we'll be fine.

So I thought I'd motion a ride over evans, through the bays, to diamond harbour, then back to taitap hotel?

As an alternative some could go over summit road? I'm personally not in favour of running the whole ride over summit, but if a few hardy souls wanted to tackle it I'd have no complaints, or even if the adventure kids wanted to go over the bridal path?

feel free to jump in with another idea? we could ride to ashley gorge for example?

I'm keen for wherever, evans etc sounds good. What's the road to the gorge like?

dude are you a nubee to the rides? I led them for most o last year and put my name up so that everyone knows who they are talkin to rather than hide behind a fake id and a fake reputation. Sure i got plenty to say but at least i can back it up with over 20 years of industry experience 14 years racing and 6 nz titles as head mechanic and 4 times national drag champion as well as being interested in passing on technical riding tips that can only be gained from actually riding and working on motorcycles.

Shit hornet maybe it should b you shoutin me the drinks lol

Sorry, you have a snowballs chance of that I'm afraid lol.

Quite a venerable resume you have there. One would presume then, with such vast experience that you would certainly be able to tell a good bike from a dog, and yet a certain bike shop mentioned gratuitously on this site would give the rspca a run for it's money it seems. Ironic isn't it.....

Incidentally, if you check the website rules, bike shops are supposed to have their own login identity for advertising purposes.

Been doing these rides since 2008, so no I wouldn't call myself a nubee, it was actually a lot of fun back then, no leaders, tec's and choice of destination on the night and there was usually a choice of two if you didn't want to do the main ride.

Ah, I may be able to shed some light on the apparent snobbery and hope that Cruza will forgive me for posting it since he is a humble type and not prone to making a fuss. This report may seem like total bollocks and I would not believe it myself had I not seen it with my own eyes.

As I was rounding a corner on the downward leg to Duvauchelle, I saw what appeared to be a wild or mad pig bound from the roadside bushes towards Cruzas bike! Cruza tried to fend it off with his boot but missed and the thing snapped its frothing jaws and bit off his left footpeg. It then spun around and disappeared back into the undergrowth, dropping the footpeg in the process. Hornet, Mully & myself, who were following, were totally stunned as Cruza, looking like a seasoned speedway pro, recovered from the attack and calmly screeched to a halt. :shit:

To assist Cruza, who was somewhat shaken and now had no left footpeg, we rigged a bungy from his left boot up and around his neck and down to the d-ring of his right glove. Although this scheme kept his foot off the road, it had the unfortunate side effect that whenever he opened the throttle, the tension in the bungy caused his leg to rise slightly, forcing an upshift. When that happened, the bike would slow and Cruza would open the throttle even more to compensate. Had we serrendipitously invented the worlds first automatic motorcycle transmission or just a very cheap upshifter ??? :shifty:

By the time they got back to Little River, Hornet was concerned that the bungy around Cruza's neck might have caused him to asphyxiate slightly and so was riding shotgun to make sure he was still in control and not in some unnatural state of pleasure. Any thought of stopping for a beer was totally inappropriate as you will appreciate...:shit:

Have you not noticed the groups at the opposite sides of the BK carpark, gun hands dangling at the ready in case there's a shootout?

Anyway, my 35c+gst;

My understanding is that the WNR is intended to be a group ride, so if you want to go on a group ride, turn up at the BK carpark and ride with the group. If you want to go somewhere else or don't want to ride with the group, then maybe post another thread and meet somewhere else, and ride where you want to.

Edit: No, I don't think that's too simple. Simple is good.

I personally do not care where I ride, yeah long straights are boring for me but it isn't like we're heading down to Timaru via State Highway 1.

If R1madness organises the kind person at Duvauchelles cafe to stay open for us and has pies and beer or chips and coke etc then I'm more than happy to head straight to Akaroa from Halswell and then back to the cafe.

No, not too simple Neels, and precisely what I'll be doing tonight.

I'll just say this, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

If you are going to rip off fellow kiwi bikers, then just bowl in trying to run the show, crowing how great you are, desperately advertising yourself in an effort to dupe more kiwi bikers, then expect a reaction from people that actually give a shit about their fellow riders wellbeing.

Hope you all have a good ride tonight, I know I will. :scooter:

While I think of it, I did have an idea of a slight deviation from a regular route. I'm not sure if this has been done already but thought I'd put it out there to see what popular opinion might be.

A slightly more interesting way of doing the Oxford run. The difference is that you turn off the motorway as soon as possible, Ohoka road.
Then head for Rangiora via that back road, much nicer than the motorway then that boring long road out.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Belfast,+Canterbury,+New+Zealand&daddr=-43.3857,172.63867+to:-43.3609987,172.6116493+to:Rangiora,+New+Zealand+to :Loburn,+Canterbury,+New+Zealand+to:Oxford,+Canter bury,+New+Zealand+to:Belfast,+Canterbury,+New+Zeal and&hl=en&geocode=Fcr8aP0d-hdKCikphTahM4wxbTHgX3mEhu8ABQ%3BFZz8af0dzkFKCilRTw SOGZIxbTEAWpJMhu8AEw%3BFRpdav0dQdhJCinvrDocU5IxbTF Q5YZMhu8AEw%3BFUQ-a_0dDZpJCin9dAmFiJQxbTEAp3mEhu8ABQ%3BFUUMbP0dR71IC ilbq7IViaoxbTHQhHmEhu8ABQ%3BFX5ca_0da3hDCil1JJuqe-IxbTHQnHmEhu8ABQ%3BFcr8aP0d-hdKCikphTahM4wxbTHgX3mEhu8ABQ&mra=ls&via=1,2&sll=-43.384092,172.468872&sspn=0.341837,0.727158&ie=UTF8&ll=-43.300197,172.372055&spn=0.171155,0.363579&t=h&z=12

This could be a multi level ride. People could stop/turn back in Rangiora if they didn't want to go further, that wee extra road on the way out is quite nice, wouldn't be such a long ride then and only a little bit of motorway.
Then at Oxford people could take the quick way home shown on the map or go the same way in reverse to get back the scenic route.

Is there a more scenic way to get back to town from Oxford? I don't know of one.

The full route shown is 108k from Belfast to Belfast.

What say the mob?

16th December 2010, 12:26
Your map suggests turning off the motorway at the second exit I think, the first is Tram Rd. If you take Tram Rd you can add a few corners by going down Giles Rd to Island Rd.
Recall someone suggesting going to the Cust pub, rather than Oxford, via German Rd (the suspension test) then Summer Hill and Mill Rds. If desparate for corners coming back from Cust you can take Oxford Rangioria Rd then Swannanoa Rd at Fernside, Patersons Rd, Wards Rd down Manderville Rd to South Eyre Rd back to Tram Rd. From where I live this loop seemed about the best I could find if I didn't have three hours to go somewhere more inspiring.

Oops, yea, for some reason I think of it as the first exit. I guess it's the first overpass maybe? dunno

Even taking it a bit further, going Oxford, Scenic hwy to Waddington then old west coast rd back. Going between the river and Darfield, Kirwee, west melton etc.

That would be a bloody long ride tho ... about 150k, close to 2 hours of fast(-ish for some like me!) riding

Actually its not that long. You will end up in town at the same time after the ride as you normally would, its just that the destination (if we go to a pub in town) is at the end of the ride not the middle.

EDIT: Its a similar distance as the usual Greta Valley ride.

Taking the Old West Coast rd may be about 20km longer, but it really does take about the same length of time as taking Tram rd - I grew up in Oxford, so I've travelled back and forth both routes hundreds of times, and both routes average out to 40-50 minutes if you stick to the speed limit, although Tram rd feels a hell of a lot longer because of the ridiculously boring 25km straight.
Alternatively, if you wanted a route that's only marginally longer than Tram Rd, and takes about the same length of time as the other two routes, there's always South Eyre rd (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Moorhouse+Ave&daddr=-43.3655262,172.3142529+to:-43.3549838,172.2809422+to:-43.33587,172.2514331+to:-43.299909,172.1874253+to:Burnt+Hill+Rd&geocode=FW6iZ_0djUxKCg%3BFWpLav0djE5FCim1jFVmueQxb TEA2H5Mhu8AEw%3BFZl0av0dbsxECim9zeD8auMxbTGR_jhMhu 8AEw%3BFUK_av0dKVlECikDXbk-VuIxbTFBYZJMhu8AEw%3BFbtLa_0dIV9DCik1X_Xz2x0ubTFht jhMhu8AEw%3BFVZQa_0d5l1DCg&hl=en&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=3&sz=13&via=1,2,3,4&sll=-43.331671,172.236443&sspn=0.108009,0.264187&ie=UTF8&ll=-43.335167,172.299957&spn=0.432011,1.056747&z=11).. it's been many years since I've been that way, but if memory serves, it's a little less boring than Tram rd.

I did say "a little less boring".. and a 20km straight still leaves it a full 5km less boring than Tram Rd. ;)

As I said though, I'd really recommend going via the Old West Coast Rd - it's a much nicer drive than Tram Rd, although it's certainly still not a particularly exciting ride - certainly no real opportunities for faster riders to get their knees down.. just the least boring route to Oxford that won't take significantly longer than the alternatives.

Or if you want one that's easier to see when zoomed in (And appears to be more accurate), go to Yellow Pages Maps (http://maps.yellow.co.nz/), then select a region, and you should see a little blue button saying "50+" with an arrow next to it, click on that and select petrol stations, and it'll show you all the petrol stations in an area if you zoom in far enough.

laRIKins gixxer had a flashing dash,R1 had it sussed, all good to go

Sun came out,a natter at the TaiTap pub then home(that pub is excellent for us)
The break-off faction even caught up at the pub which was cool:Pokey::bleh:

btw - MR Waspy Hornet - let others fight their own battles if they so wish but leave it off KB & lets just do what we love - ride bikes:woohoo:

Well I have found out what caused the flashing light.
The last owner of person (NOT Ian) that worked on the bike, or was just bad luck.

A wee bolt had falling out of the Exhaust control system's electric drive motor.
So the cable drum fell off (so the valve stayed open) and was not sending the right info back to the computer.
So it had a hissy fit.:shit:
Big red lights that flash on, on the dash do upset me.

Weather is looking okayish at this point, 3 day rainfall data looks promising for both north and south roads till about 10ish when it looks like cloud and rain will spill over the alps.

Do we want to do Peeteey's north flat straight route for a laugh?

Also as a reminder Hampton Honda have offered to put on chippies and fizzy after the ride, so we could re-enter christchurch via Yaldhurst road then just nick down to carmen road, it'd be about a 2 hour ride, few stops at important junctions.

Thoughts?

This makes it suck even more that I won't be able to get my bike looked at till the new year, and can't ride it until it's had a bit of work done. :weep:

I'm wanting to come out to a WNR one night and meet some other chch bikers, and had been hoping you might do a run out over some flat and fairly straight terrain sometime soon, since based on a quick skim of this thread it appears you mostly head out over the port hills, and I'm nowhere near confident enough to ride over Dyers Pass.

While I'm on the topic, I couldn't see any topics mentioning learner rides in Canterbury, am I just blind, or are there not any rides aimed toward more inexperienced riders down here? - I'm assuming that although you split into fast and slow groups, the slow group is still made up of fairly experienced riders who just tend to stick to the speed limit, and I'm not too keen on holding people up.

You wont hold anyone up, everyone just rides at their own pace, minds their own business, and the regroup stops along thew way ensure that we all arrive somewhat together.

Then its a free for all. Do what you what, go home the way you want etc.

If you want someone to follow you just put a post up here or ask around at the ride. No one I know of bites (to much) so you shouldnt have a problem finding someone.

These WNR's are learner friendly. Just hang at the back with maybe 1 person behind you to make sure you are not left behind. The only thing about being on these rides is that not many stick to the 70k limit on the learners. But saying that, there are bugger all big straights on the routes we take so sticking with the people at the back is not too tricky. Just don't push that wee scorpio too hard, as she may blow up! :scooter:

Bah, curses!

Hi. If you have any concerns about holding other riders up, well firstly don't, and if you do I can bring along a old bike that only does 80kph and I can hold them up for you.

Oh, and this IS supposed to be the Learner friendly ride in Christchurch.
Hang near the back, you'll find the other novices and laid back, relaxed riders and there are some there. (not counting the ones that tear off out riding their skills chasing the ones that just want to go fast).

Yeah, I don't have a problem going over 70, and I also plan on sitting my restricted as soon as the bike is rideable again, so that shouldn't be an issue.
As far as not pushing the Scorpio too hard, I was rather surprised at how effortlessly I can cruise at 100 on it - I'm very big and heavy, and the GZ250 I had a few years back could only manage about 95 if I went anywhere near a mild incline or headwind.

Yeah, I just got the bike a couple of weeks ago, so I need to get it all checked out, and get it a service. At the moment the front brakes are pretty marginal as the brake fluid reservoir is nearly empty, and although I could just refill that myself before taking it for it's service, I think there's something dodgy with the front wheel or suspension - it basically feels like the front wheel is shimmying side to side.

So yeah, not at all keen on riding it till it's been checked out by a professional, cause it was scary as hell going down Moorhouse surrounded by traffic the other day when the front wheel started feeling like it wasn't properly attached to the bike.

Good ride tonight, even with the winds, the wee girl got there slowly mind you! I was complaining of the slow ride to the pub, alhough nothing compared to the slow ride from Cass Bay to Lyttleton, stuck behind an ambulance doing 30kmh, then the tunnel was down to one lane for maintenance and not mentioning a certain cameraman that frightened the crap out of me when he disappeared from my mirrors! I went to Akaroa today, the road was good most of the way there with the exception of the downhill side to Barrys Bay from the hill top. They have been doing some resurfacing on the downhill lane about a kilometer from the hill top, bloody gooves in the road that catch your wheel and upset your lines, be wary of them as they are on some of the tight corners. Also there is a nasty bump just at the bottom of the Robinsons Bay hill, could be a tad upsetting for some.....

Did the Dyers, Gebbies, Taitap loop on Sunday. Bulk traffic towing boats heading to Akas...

Also, heard that Taitap pub was closed on Monday (earthquake?) so if you're planning on a lemonade there - might be an idea to check if it is open.

Not sure if its the time of year but perceive an increase in the number of car drivers that think a motorcycle in their rear view mirrors is some kind of personal challenge...

CeeJay arrived as we were sitting in the garden at Little River....a beautiful v-twin soundtrack, his new ride :scooter: is huge, naked and very very sexy :innocent:

Just dont let the bike shopping Retroqueen anywhere near it please!!! :shit::love:

Lol I like the Monty Python excerpts, but no Parrots?

Shame you didn't film CeeJays new bike, I think I can guess what it is....:innocent:

Ah - A new bike is the next best thing to a new baby. Actually, not new at all, just new to me. She's an '06 Yam MT-01 with just 6.8k km and as you can see, pretty near mint. The best analogy is a Harley type motor in a sport frame with sport suspension & brakes. It handles like a dream in the twisties and pulls like a train... what more could a man want

Hee hee, no parrots. Couldn't think of how to make them fit without being totally random!

I did go out for a look but totally forgot to take the camera and I think that by the time I did go out with the helmet on and camera rolling he'd already gone.

Shame, it is rather pretty

Speaking of pretty bikes, where were you? ;)

The bike has been parked up for a week in lieu of parental duties, but I will be along next Wed and will hopefully put some more km on it before then too

Incidentally, I noticed with the Gopro footage (nice and clear) that the distances seem to be stretched out, is that something to do with the lens type?

No mate. Theres a good lesson here for anyone contemplating buying a used bike via Trademe. That is, get the rego number from the seller and buy the LTA report via http://www.carjam.co.nz. Its about $13.50 and tells you all you need to know about the history of the bike. I looked at several bikes and found that many had been re-registered (ie probably crashed), had money owing on them and even one in which the odometer had been running backwards. Apart from that there is also the old 'caveat emptor' advice - verify what the seller claims in their ad is true...

Yea, because it's so wide angle (170deg) everything looks far away. It makes the sensation of motion much much better as you can actually see things whizzing by on the edges. If it were zoomed in more it looks like you're pootle-ing when you may be doing some chronic speeds.
Makes it look to us cruisers like we're actually going as fast as it feels!
i.e. 100k feels like warp factor 9 to me

wide angle also makes corners look a bit better cause you can see where the bike is going, as opposed to a tighter lens which would sort of pan when it came to a corner.
