How did you get on with Lance? :sunny:
I was booked in for yesterday but the weather was so foul that I had to reschedule. So now its next weekend, in the meantime I'm revising all the theory stuff for the learner test which I'll hopefully do on the following Monday if I'm successful with Lance. So hopefully I'll be able to take my bike further than down the bloody driveway next week. Doesn't leave me very long to get used to her before I attempt a ride to the Cape, EEK:shit:

Managed to "walk" up the stairs on crutches today. That sure beats hopping I can tell you. I am pushing hard (with the support of my physio) to get back on my feet again. Already my shoulders and elbows are sighing with relief

I will also check out the parking thing this weekend..Graeme did say it was ''sweet as''.
Not expecting any bullshit where thats concerned but if you a disc lock, use it.
I always do when I am not familiar with an area.
Also..three groups of 9-10 may be the best option here (for friday at least)

I like this one. I had an old slipper lying around for ages, just one. It got thrown away about a couple of months ago, why would we need one right slipper, with good all weather sole and sheepskin uppers that can be split and some laces attached to lace it on :pinch:

Have to be safety floor
You're lucky. I finally get my wrist re xrayed on monday then start physio on wednesday
You get used to it very quickly I can assure you, you dont get a choice. I have referred myself to physio early to get some excercises on board for strength before the plaster comes off. I am also pushing myself to weight bear (supported by crutches) to get some calf muscle stimulated.
The advice from a very talented sports physio is dont worry about pain, there are drugs for that, but if it is keeping you awake at night you have taken it too far  So far so good and just quietly, I managed to "walk" on it unsupported for a few steps last night :woohoo: :sunny:

And according to the article Pukenui, the only other station between the cape and Awanui, is closing later this month.
That leaves a round trip of a little under 210km between fills.

Marvelous. Now for the question no ones asked. How much does it cost?
This place is wonderful!
Was woken up this morning so I could watch a big pod of dolphins playing in the bay. :woohoo:
We have done a reccy of the entire place and counted beds etc and the managers have come up with an all inclusive price of $150 per person for the weekend. This includes 2 cooked breakfasts, a BBQ Friday night and a hangi Saturday night.
Irene has been menu planning this afternoon and has come up with;
BBQ - steak, sausages coleslaw, salads (3) spuds and garlic bread.
Hangi - Pork, mutton, chicken and pigs feet  Spuds, pumpkin, kumera, cabage.
Breakfasts - Bacon, sausages, eggs, toast and choice of spag or baked beans. You can have cereal as well if you can fit it in
Although she reserves the right to make adjustments to it :whocares:
Maha will give a run down of bed configurations, but there are enough beds here for everyone who wants one.
Just one note of warning for anyone on crutches on the weekend. Do not consume a skin full of wine and attempt to get up a flight of stairs :pinch: You will crash and burn DAMHIK :pinch:

Can you get the top off without taking the head off? Then you can make a base gasket for it. What you need to do is send an email around to all the shops to see if they have spares in their obsolete spares. We used to have all sorts of shit in our shop, dating back many, many years. Best of luck with it Rob, hope you can get it sorted out.

123km/h, didn't notice the change down to an 80k zone, just cruising down a really long hill on peak rd and the copper pinged me from the top. Instant 28day suspension, and then to add the 50 demerits to my license i'm assuming that they will take if for a further 3 months.... really, really gutted. Ohwell, will be buying a race bike soon :woohoo:

Hi Mum / Maha
Not sure if you are aware but the "Gas" Station just short of the cape burnt down and I believe the Mobil at Houhora was due to close so its quite possible the last fuel before the cape will before you turn North at Awanui - I'm not sure but could be Coopers Beach or back towards Kaitaia from Awanui.
The wife and I did the trip a few months ago and the road is brilliant, we will possibly follow you guys on the day if I can get away from work.

Yeah, A cop has been sitting in Shanks Rd getting people coming up from the church and I have seen him outside the church under the tree clearly visible, but you can't see him from the Shanks Rd end.
I suppose it's a fair cop because there was an horrific bike accident opposite Macky Rd a few years ago that claimed rider and pillion. the little white crosses are there still.

Hmm saw those crosses, yea he parked up under the tree by the church when he was finished with me, let me ride it home at least.
I have actually often wondered why they didn't put cops out on there cause they are long straights and have seen people fly down them.

Not necessarily petrol tank efficient though, My bike currently will maybe just manage that with an oily rag still keeping it going, might have a solution to that problem though.

Please dont stress, there are plenty of opportunities to re-fuel. I have recently had a bike that had a dumb 220km tank range, I am well educated in looking out for fuel stops to suit, trust me.

Indeed. I was up there a couple of weeks ago and according to the sign at Awanui it's 104km to the cape. Worst case scenerio is roughly 208km between refueling. Even the most gas hungry or tank-challenged bikes should be able to do that.

My bike's current state of tune (ie jets and needles in the carbs) means I'm lucky to get 200km out of a tank... Thinking about putting it back to standard cause the difference in power isn't that much, but that means pulling the whole thing to pieces again... Not that I don't enjoy it, but I don't have many days off at the moment... Unless anyone would be happy to carry extra gas for the more thirsty among us...? (I'm looking into small-ish fuel containers, 2 litres would be perfect...!)

People - stop worrying!
I'm miles ahead of most of you.
Yes, if Awanui becomes the last gas before the Cape it is a round trip of 208km.
So early on Saturday morning, whilst most of you are still sleeping off Friday night's dinner I'll be up, stick the breakdown trailer behind the X Trail, stick the D'eauville onto the trailer and 75 litres of gas in cans into the back of the X Trail.
I'll park the X Trail on the side of the road 50km towards the Cape from Awanui, take the D'eauville off the trailer and meet you all at the Motel.
We'll do the ride as Maha has planned - if you are gas challenged on the way back from the Cape you can stop at the X Trail, get a 5 litre top up (and yes I will have both 95 and 91 octane), I'll stick the D'eauville back onto the trailer and follow you all back to the Motel for dinner.
If anyone needs diesel let me know and I can bring 20 litres of that as well.
See - simple!

I won't be with you guys on the Friday, but Saturday will be.
Seems rather extreme lengths for Mark to go to, but I'll be able to transport gas for those that are worried, if they want. Panniers have lots of room, plus emergency gas in it's own tank (if the ride is sedate I could probably do the trip 3 times over before needing gas).
I haven't come across many bikes that need gas before 200km.

Go for gold. I'm sure I'll have a stash on me.
Also I've been to the doc and it's time for me to start using my arm almost like normal again. Apparently I'm doing well and shouldn't need any support at all in 2 weeks.
And my dad has finished making the right bracket for my bike. He went a little overboard. I just wanted something functional. I'm thinking I might get them anodised.

I know, but I have an even more cunning plan than a moon boot
I took out a couple of ligaments from this ankle a few years ago :pinch:
It took a very long time to come right and probably contributed to the broken ankle in hindsight
I got this amazing boot then, lace up number and very supporting of the ankle, without compromising the rest of the muscles that support the ankle. I am going to use that in preference to a moon boot (if they let me of course :innocent:) My physio thinks that is a good idea at least :woohoo:
