Secret squirrel....

I'm too dumb for secret squirrel. Can never remember who is meant to know, and who isn't.

Yeah, talk about long bike riders.

It's a shorty, of that there is no doubt...cunt.

Started work on the Chivas chair last night. Gordie had begin the demuntification process and done all the fiddly annoying shit, so we just need to set the geometry on the wheels, space the motor correctly, put a base gasket in the motor so the valves clear the slugs, and hook up the new brake lines.

Then it's off for a test day to make sure we're ready for Suzuki series.

Good times.

, space the motor correctly,
What was the problem with that?

Muntage. . .

Drew
8th November 2016, 11:22
What was the problem with that?Well, nothing if I left the rear hub pissed as fuck to match it. But after I set that back to the specs you gave Gordie from LCR, it appears that the motor being on a lean to the right isn't exactly as required.

Muntage. . .Sooo, ^^^this.

He should have run the problem past an engineering tutor.

He should have run the problem past an engineering tutor.

But it's unfathomable given this ^^^

Drew
8th November 2016, 15:43
Add to that, he had the chain so tight it broke an engine mount brace. At least, I can't see another way it could have gotten over loaded.

Assuming of course, that it wasn't like that when he got it.

There's nothing to make, other than some spacers with a 10mm hole through them.
Only one weld required.

I'll post up a couple pics when I clear some memory on the phone and take some.

Somethings just can't be helped. Motor is now in pieces beside the chair getting put back to as stock as I can make it without splitting the cases and investigating what's going on in there.

That's an Harris works engine, I doubt you can improve on that

Is that a Harris Barely Works engine?

Seems it had some special one off Harris imaginary hot cams in it too.

Sump was baffled at least...by leaving the gasket paper over hanging an inch and a half into the sump all the way around. Qulaity.

Very special, with no markings or evidence they're different to standard at all.

Hes just being fussy the guy told him its all good just dont rev it to hard because the valves hit the pistonsQuite.

But I dare say that there's every chance I'll peg it back too many gears at some point with the button shifter, and that would be the end of it all

The sump baffle Gordie sourced is pretty cool. I'm guessing the lack of one before is why the spare motor had a snapped crank, but I'll get that apart and see if the rest is salvageable.

Sacrifice a virgin, quick....You do realise that Harris actually started his own church a few years back ?

FWIW the only engine work I've ever done for Harris was diagnose a seized cam when one of his FZR1000's wouldn't run - and unseize it.

What is it with sidecar owners and FZR cam caps - can none of you read the marks ? Done two of the bastards now for chairs.

It's because we stand in front of the motor to work on them, and we're too dumb to figure out left and right from there.

Jesus those brake bias thingies are a cunt. Couldn't see what is supposed to keep the rod accross the push rods level, so I just fashioned a guide.

Had no power so couldn't weld the broken mount and get the motor back in.

Had a good yarn with Ian Staples at Manfeild on Friday.

His chair with the RSV1000 lump is pretty cool. The front end is pretty fucken different.

He was asking if it was ever discovered as to why our new chair had the chassis box shaped the way it is. I'd pondered the same thing, bit never asked. He thinks it was built for a 600 to have a supercharger hanging in the triangle space beside the motor.

That's a cool idea, but I don't really understand why anyone would do it.

The engine mounts support the idea that it's meant to be an F2. The rear mounts line up with the R1, but the top mount needs a plate to get the hole to line up.

More likely a dry sump pump and plumbing. The ZX14 I rebuilt for Kicks sponsor had a multi stage pump driven off the side which was bleeding enormous.
I really wouldn't have wanted to package that in a chair - but a car, no probs.

don't you listen to anything I say? I told you that.

and where would you put your leg if you made it straight? you might have to make it longer so your legs go in front of the motor, but I don't think that will catch on.

You don't need to make one, Harris had a LCR style tub his students made up out at Ruapuna today, I'll give him your number

Oh yeah, 2 year tech inpsection, 6 sidecars checked, guess who the only one to fail was?

Just thinking, & Not being a smart arse, but seeing as the outfit is an absolute one of, it may be worth doing a measure up & record of the vital chassis specs, so if in the unlikely event it got bent, you would have some numbers to straighten it out too.

Probably like a front wheel drive car with the backwheels welded together in the middle. Somebody should make one.

The box could still be straight, just further in than that of a long chair.

I doubt we'll do many street races on it. Wanganui is shit, Pearoa has fuck all appeal. Hillclimb could well be our lot for public roads.

Getting close now.
