Two people have won consecutive championships on different makes of machinery apparently. Only one has won consecutive races on different makes.
Lorenzo would like to join either of those very short lists, and he does have a decent record at Qatar, Ducati will need to do something to make the bike turn though. Oxley said Iannone loooked like he was trying to steer a truck at times in Valencia. Dall'Igna said Lorenzo has a different style to everybody else, so Ducati is aware of what is required. Be interesting to see if Ducati - and Michelin - can give Lorenzo what he needs.
Mat Oxley posted this pic with just one word: "Obsolescence". He later suggested they could be used for aerodynamic crash bungs. Still it woulda been nice to grab a pair of those.
Good collectors item
That was a good season..!
Roll on 2017!

It's fucken bullshit that they can no longer use wings. That puts the Ducati back struggling for points again if they havent got a very differwnt bike for next year.

I think that Ducati have an aero trick or two for next year. There was talk of a down-force creating nose intake.
Overall... A great season. Why can't we get the Moto2 guys to always go at it the way they did during the final race.

Nah, the wings were a distraction and if anyone got really serious they'd have cost millions. The rules will need to be written right though, I've already seen a photo of a front mudguard that bore a marked resemblance to a wing. Ducati are aware of what they have to deal with, it's up to them to produce a bike that works within the rules.
According to Nick Harris Ducati paid twelve million Euros to acquire the services of George, elsewhere the figure was quoted as twenty million, it's up to the factory to give him a bike he can ride to provide a return on their investment. Dall'Igna has radically changed the culture at Ducati so, unlike when Rossi went there, the engineers should be listening. His comments overnight indicate that Dall'Igna is aware of what's required. We now wait to see if he can deliver it. The answers start tonight?

When you have a full season MotoGP video pass it expires about a day after the Valencia race. You can't delay viewing the race or you miss out. Since that is the end of the season the thought occurred to me that I'd pay for a full season pass now and get the whole year - but no. There seems to be a new system, you pay thirty Euros (well 29.95 to be precise) which takes you to sometime in March when you can have the pleasure of forking out another hundred, or whatever the price will be next year, for the season.
I can see the edvantage of this system to Dorna but I'm not sure if I see enough advantage for me. Anyhoo I sent them a passive aggressive little whinge. Fuckem!

Not sure how many of you are aware of this but Rossi hit a spectator with a scooter in the paddock at Valencia. He didn't stop, he just looked pissed off as he sped away. The Spanish motorcycle press are apparently hostile and are directing considerable venom at Rossi.
The original video clip was taken from in front of the scooter and definitely shows contact with the woman. This photo shows what the daft cow was trying to do. There is concern that the antics of suicidal selfie takers may result in everybody being excluded from the paddock.

I let my 2016 videopass renew automatically and I got the off-season plus 2017. Here's what the email says:
2017 Season & Off Season
Price: 99.95€
Expires on: 2017-11-13 23:59 GMT
Your subscirption to the MotoGP VideoPass will be valid until the day after the last race of the current season.
Your seasonal subscription will automatically renew at the end of the MotoGP Season and will include the Off Season package for free.
I thought the same thing happened if you renewed manually, but your experience suggests otherwise.
I agree that cutting it off so soon after the last race is pretty harsh.

Meanwhile... To add to my action-packed day I had the septic tank emptied and unblocked a drain.

That's not quite what happened. I let it expire at the end of last season, but stuffed if I'm paying an extra 30 Euros to watch a few days testing which is marginally more exciting than watching grass grow. I'll just have to rely on Messrs Emmett, Oxley, et al to keep us informed.
I can understand why they cut it off when they do because there's only one day off (for the riders, if not the mechanics) then testing starts. There were many mammoth hangovers yesterday but it'll be back to work tonight our time.
Gazza, the conversion rate isn't double, for a couple of years it's been about one and a half so just over NZ$150 at the current rate. As well as the live races there is a selection of "classic" races. Of course the selection of those is limited by the advent of coloured TV coverage.
Anyone lusting after the real deal: B&W film, single cylinders and horsehide riding suits, could visit the British Pathe collection on Youtube. Which will be what i do if I start to suffer withdrawal symptoms.

Impressions from Twitter overnight:
Honda now have a big bang engine. Crutchlow immediately subjected his to the gravel test. Don't be unkind, there were a lot of crashes, later in the day when Crutchlow got his new engine and the others were trying for fast laps, the track cooled and there were a lot of crashes.
MV, JL, and AI wasted no time getting up to speed on their new machinery, all are quick. JL is testing GP16, Dovi the GP17. As David Emmett says the difference between the M1 and the GP16 is huge, difference between the 16 and 17 small. The teams are impressed with the professionalism of the riders. It's a love in.
There are some different paint jobs, some commentators like them but I think it may just be that they're different.
Some of the Ducatis are still using wings. This is so as to eliminate one variable when testing other parts. The basic rule is you only change one thing at a time or you won't know what worked.
Final times for the day and MV's test paint job:

On a track they've just spent 4 days riding, in similar conditions.
It's well documented that the testimate times mean little regarding race weekend pace.

There was much less news from Valencia overnight but I did receive an email reply from Dorna to my query about video passes. Very brief, it basically said video passes for 2017 will be available in 2017. I might not want one then.
David Emmett posted that the MotoGP 'Live Timing App' is currently available free. I have no experience of it but I might give it a try although there's nowt to watch until the next test.

I've been looking into a subscription. It looks like when you first subscribe, you have to wait for the season package to become available, if you don't want pay extra for the off season.
On (automatic?) renewal you get 12 months, to end of the next season, thus including the off season. The auto renewal appears to be 100 Euro.
This is my understanding anyway.

My third season auto renewed very recently. How convenient.
I never checked how much it cost, but I will, and post back. My package lets me watch all of the Motogp stuff. Love it. The missus loves my package, too.
I never thought about the renewal cost because for the last two seasons, at least one race at every round has had me bouncing off the walls and squealing a little bit.
Priceless. Moto gp night is a big night in our house, often kicks off about 7:30pm on a Monday. I guess that's what I'm buying. On demand Motogp.

Supplied by Steve English who is Irish.
I thought this was interesting but two names in particular surprised me: Pasini, he has been doing this for a very long time now and ought to be able to keep it shiny side up more often; and Williarot who I didn't even know was riding in Moto2. I s'pose though if he is in the gravel, technically he isn't riding.
Cost of the video pass: I seem to recall the figure as close to $150.00, I just checked a currency converter and as at today it's about 149.60 so it hasn't changed much. Except that now they want another $45.00 from me so fuckem!
Apropos of nothing, except that some of the MotoGP journos have commented, FIFA have commenced an investigation of the English and Scottish teams for breaking the rules against football teams making political statements. Last year it was 99 Euro for the regular videopass and 139 Euro with the multi-screen thingy. (I'm not sure what this involves as I'm a regular guy.) This year they've folded the multi-screen into the regular pass for 99 Euro. Yes, you're good until the day after Valencia 2017.
