Thanks for posting those Peter Green clips. His life has certainly had its ups and downs. Presumably during one of the downs he sold that guitar to Gary Moore who used it for many years until he died. The guitar now belongs to an American collector, but he has sent it back to be looked after in Britain because that is where it spent its working life and he thinks that's where it should remain.

It's a 59 LP. It had a unique sound because, for whatever reason, the pick ups are wired out of phase (well, technically the pole pieces are jumbled north / south). You can actually buy similar pick ups from people who have worked that out pretty well. From memory, Kirk Hammett of Metallica owns the Peter Green Les Paul? I'm sure someone will correct me eventually. I have an original unmolested 54 Les Paul gold top that I'm taking up to the states soonish to pass it over to the new owner. There's something very special about some of the first generation of Les Pauls.

Further confirming my nerd status, Joe Bonamassa has an incredible collection of Les Pauls - and he owns probably the best collection of tweeds as well. I think he is solely responsible for the resurgence of guitar values recently. There are videos on YouTube that show his house and his stupendous collection of old stuff.

There's something very special about some of the first generation of Les Pauls.

There is a good Youtube clip of an interview with Bernie Marsden mainly about his Les Paul which is named "The Beast". When Bonamassa was in the UK he called Marsden on the phone and asked could he borrow the guitar. The "special" nature is mentioned in the interview. I hadn't heard of Marsden but he's been around since the early 70s so I bought his latest allbum on the strength of the interview, it's not flashy but I like it.

Awwww yeah. Did you go see them this year - played a show at Shed 6 on the Welly waterfront. We went up for it. They were touring "Ash and Ice" which is a good (but not IMO one of their great) record.

She is rather attractive.

In terms of what I have had on constant repeat since getting it, I love the new Jason Isbell album "The Nashville Sound".

Jason is one of the best storytellers in music, regardless of genre. This is country, or alt-country or Americana whatever we are calling it this month.

His songwriting has attained greatness - this album is quite the personal one which is about his lovely wife (if you think Alison Mossheart is hot, check out Amanda Shires) and kid. Absolutely recommended plus he turns that Les Paul up fairly loud at a few points.

female singer, Beth Hart. Not only is she a very accomplished musician
(playing several instruments herself), but she has a great voice. Shades
of Janis Joplin, but much smoother. And she sings blues, rock and jazz
material.

I was a huge fan of The Fall. Went to see them at Christchurch Town Hall back in the day. Not a well attended show and so we were right up the front. A fuckwit boot boy decided Christchurch needed stage diving because he clearly had seen it on the telly, so he jumped up on stage and launched himself into the air. Crowd saw this and collectively took a step back and the guy goes THUD on the floor and lays like a stunned mullet. Hilarious.

I played some of their stuff over the weekend. Its not all great, but especially in that era it had greatness in a lot of it.

I loved that song "Cruisers Creek" and "Carry Bag Man" - edit: "Hip Priest" "My New House" - actually there are lots.
