Glad to hear your OK brother.
Now you know I am concerned but, more importantly, how's the bike?
JACKO

Front wheel looks like it touched the motor, wheel and brakes look ok, forks are bent, handlebar grips are only about a foot apart....thats all I could see at a glance. Avon ( cosmetics) mirror knackered, and road rash.
Thirsty work loading the heavy mutha in and out of the BFTP VW support vehicle.

LOL well you see it begins with "Once upon a time" on the Coro loop ride.
Anyway we had two riders down but not out, both suffered but walked away, their bikes, well not so lucky.
I'll let the pictures the others post tell the sorry story about the guys beautiful Moto's.
So the Blast from The Past Riders event for today was cut dramatically short when two of our number were involved in a freaky accident that involved a large bump in the road , a car and boat combination and some unfortunate road positioning as a result of hitting this large bump.
Good old Dodgyiti was almost able to come to a complete stop before the sickening realisation that the trailer and boat coming towards him on his side of the road were not!
So in the finest tradition of self preservation he laid down his trusty stead and sheltered behind it, a move which I am 100% certain saved his life.
The boat and trailer flipped over his bike, sending the boat catapulting over the bank and onto the rocks below smashing it up terribly.
Injuries here, one biker with two broken fingers a puncture wound to one of them(courtesy of the hurtling trailer and boat hitting his hand on the high side of his handle bars) and a broken upper arm bone. This rider walked out of Thames Hospital with us some 3 hours latter.
As did his friend and fellow Moto rider who nevertheless also suffered a sore back injury and most probably a dislocated shoulder as a result of taking the ROCK bank on the other side of the road instead of putting himself directly in the path of the oncoming car and boat and forcing them into Dodgyiti.
This action meant that his Moto suffered terribly but that he and Dodgyiti were going to walk away, I salute his decisive and painful decision to almost certainly destroy his beautiful bike and make sure as best he could that there were no others involved, unfortunately no one could have predicted the boat trailer jack knifing and still collecting Dodgyiti.
This was to be the BFTP Riders last ride before Christmas and it was going extremely well, we had 9 bikes and ten riders attend a very early morning start in Manurewa for a leisurely trip down the back roads of Papakura and then up the Paparata road to Maramarua and on to Kopu where we rendevousd with another two bikes and riders.
All was well at this point except that we lost ol Steel Rider, last seen heading in the direction of Coromandel we think?
Where are ya Steel Rider?
Also our resident hard trailer(Surfer) who had toiled magnificently with bumpy roads and fast sections (which only make his bike vibrate even more) turned for home from here too, after wishing us all a safe and glorious ride.
Well the ride stopped just out of Thames with the above accident happening.
Our riders did a great job of making sure traffic was controlled and getting medical assistance to those who needed it, assisting the Local Volly Fire brigade and attending Ambo's and Police.
We all got to watch the local recovery driver simply drag the poor old boat up the rocks ripping it's outboard in half and tearing the topsides completely off the hull, mental note don't let that lot tow or recovery anything!
Van courtesy of (Max headroom) and his son arrived and we managed to stow both battered Moto's inside and get them to safety.
All in all I believe that without the two riders involved both keeping their heads and doing what they did we'd be talking about a a very different outcome.
I'm pleased to be able to say that everyone who left this morning has by now arrived safely back home this evening though two of our number will be nursing injuries for a few weeks to come.
Dodgyiti ol Max has all the pictures before and after mate so i hope he puts em up soon for you guys.
PS: as if it's not long enough already but I had to say this.
Many thanks to all the other bikers out there who stopped and enquired after our guys and made offers of assistance, special thanks to the unnamed man on the Castrol Honda who offered his premise Thames Honda(I believe) and a vehicle to recover and store the guys bikes, though a generous offer we had already sorted that by then, but THANKS again.

omg, not sure what to think of it all after reading caseye's report...
the accident surely sounds sickening :(

i was terribly sorry this morning that i couldn't make it but now i think it might have been all a bit too much for me to witness such carnage (though only in metal and luckily not in flesh!)

but then again, it also sounds the aftermath was taken care of in the best way possible by courteus and friendly fellow riders, caseye, voltaire and max headroom in particular

i hope everyone recovers soon, both the injured parties and all the others, as i don't think anyone takes accidents like this lightly

As requested, here's a few piccies of our aborted lap of the Coromandel....we didn't get very far, did we!!!

Big thanks to Caseye and Voltaire for their help getting the bikes out of the van and into the shed once we got back to Headroom Heights. Much appreciated.

It's no stretch of the truth to say that today's events could easily have resulted in at least one, & possibly two funerals. Very relieved and thankful that Dodgyiti and Shae(sp?) are dealing with comparatively minor injuries.

Heal quickly, guys.

Yes. Lucky indeed.

It is a real risk having meat & bone exposed.

Speaking of exposed... How's Dodgyiti's left cylinder head looking?

Speaking of exposed... How's Dodgyiti's left cylinder head looking?

Surprisingly good. In fact, considering the hit the bike took it's little short of amazing. We noticed a broken fin, but it appears that the head protectors Dodgy had fitted did a good job.

Although, As I pointed out to him on the phone last night, if he'd still been riding a BMW he wouldn't have been trapped under the bike and he'd have only scuffed a rocker cover.....

not to mention that the good ol' GS would have gone straight through the trailer and continueed straight as if nothing had happened

seriously guys, lots of luck in that accident by the look of it - those rocks dont look soft, and practically no shoulder on a narrow road to start with

Bloody hell guys that's far to much drama for one day. You don't have to tell me about that sickening feeling when you look at your old classic lying on the road. Its a bitch. Glad to hear your all ok. Sounds like Dodgyiti needs to buy A lotto ticket as its his lucky week. :2thumbsup

Was the boat guy simply going to fast?? To flip a boat etc like that he certainly didn't seem to be being careful.

15th December 2008, 08:39

All the best - hope you heal well.

Was the boat guy simply going to fast?? To flip a boat etc like that he certainly didn't seem to be being careful.

Nope. Perhaps it might look like that from the photos, but the boat guy was in fact trying to avoid running over the head of the 1100 Sport rider who'd just had a big "lose" and was was still sliding along the ditch on the wrong side of the road. The boat guy's quick thinking narrowly missed that potential fatality, but the boat trailer couldn't cope with the g-forces, jack-knifed and broke free of the towball. The boat & trailer then slid sideways and rolled over the top of Dodgyiti who was still sitting on his bike but had just stopped to help the 1100 Sport rider. Without Dodgy's reflex action to drop the bike and duck for cover, he would have been either squashed under the boat or impaled by the trailer.

Hard to explain the quietness of an accident scene when you're first to arrive. Quite surreal...

Oh I got the wrong impression of the events from the above. Thanks for that Max. So it was another biker that sparked the whole thing off, what a bugger!! Shit sounds like it was eveyones lucky day and then some!!

if i had not stopped straight away to help him i would have hit the 4wd head on, kinda karma really. bad luck but could have been a lot worse on so many levels.
i know this screams first aid 101
because i am in h&s as part of my job and just did my refresher with red cross 8/12/08 so checking my own safety before going in to help others would have ment roding another 50m to where max stopped. good plan but when a guy is lying on the road on a blind corner, his head in the path of traffic- what would anyone do?
they would stop as soon as and get him moved or he would be a goner if run over. wel thats what i did
the 4wd driver deserves a medal, he swerved with 1/2 meter from the uys head, i could see flattened watermelon in my head but he avoided him, and careering into me on the other verge but the boat and trailer didnt, it was airborne when it hit my bike the dent in the tank is the chassis by the mudguard. very violent but as i said it could have turned out very much worse

moral of the story, your damned if you dont and less damned if you do

thank goodness for tramadol

can't help but wonder what the $ damage might be to all the vehicles and what's the situation with the insurance(s)

i know any little thing on a bike can cost a small fortune and that boat doesn't look as it would float again any time soon

Dodgyiti
16th December 2008, 06:14
hi malcolm,
that is a really sweet 'max' you have
all this talk on what constitutes a classic lately.. well i recon anything with v-boost is a shoe-in, and so nice in red, i have only seen black ones before. look forward to catching up properly in the future, without all the drama

hey psy,
i thing the boat was worth about 6-8k, it was glass over ply so not a cutting edge machne and the o/board was a merc so not too flash either. weird that the bits of ply wedged into my engine fins was nearly a straight colour match to my purple tank:cool:
at a guess my bike would soak up 2-3.5k tops, and that would be everything as good as it was, my lid was worth 1050
the other bike from max's estimation of damage would probably be around the same as mine

so a costly little adventure as far as chattels go.

last night i was looking at my superscooter - thinking 'if i just move the throttle to the left side i can ride this thing'

i told diane about the above mentioned idea, i interpret the look i got to meaning i wont be doing it this weekend:dodge:

Just how many GS Suzuki's were on the ride?:D

May i suggest next time we exchange a "control" mobile number.

:yeah: It'd pay to make a routine of checking it every 15 - 20 minutes ish. Less if control number volunteers agree to get a helmet headset so calls can be taken while on the move. The most effective set up would involve 2 control riders (1 at the front and 1 at the rear) each with head sets.

[QUOTE=flyingcrocodile46;1855148]Sorry to be a pain.. are you referring to your mate or the boatie?

The 'mate' on his provisional licence had already binned his uninsured less than immaculate 1100 cc Guzzi prior to the boatie arriving around the bend.
Simply a case of going too fast for the conditions, that were by his own admission unfamiliar.

The boatie did as best as he could.
He took evasive action to stop himself running over the rider on the road and the trailer swung around and hit Mike who was STOPPED on the other side to assist.
What led to this outcome was two up Guzzi rider overtaking lots of slow moving traffic and setting a very fast pace that the other Guzzi rider felt he needed to keep.
Afterwards two up rider came back, hung around for a while and buggered off, the rest of us stayed and arranged transport for the bikes and called into the hospital.
I hope the Police throw the book at him.
Bring in compulsary third party insurance I say.
We took Mikes bike home last night.

Cheers. Who is the "two up rider"? Were they a spontaneous tag along or a sign up from here? and did "two up rider" actually cause the accident directly or not.. cause from what I appear to be reading the boatie wouldn't have jack knifed his trailer and flattened poor old Dogyiti if he hadn't have had to swerve to avoid "the other Guzzi rider".

Twoup and " the other guzzi rider' came along as Mike had met them previously socially...ie they all have Guzzi's.
He had not ridden with either previously.
What I observed that 'twoup' took off at the start, then i saw him stopped futher along , then he passed me at a great rate of knots and dissappeared into the distance passing lots of cars in the process..
I heard from one of the other regulars he passed him while he himself was passing a car!!!!
Then Tess toss er own kicked in and the rest you know.
Fortunately no one was badly hurt and maybe a few lessons were learnt.
I learnt I should carry a first aid kit.

Yes.. we can all learn from it. I have pushed too hard and found myself going wide a few times and it certainly isn't helped by lumps and dips on corners and older suspension.

Looks like Mike and the Boatie were completely innocent victims.

If someone wants to set up a pledge thread for Mikes bike repairs I'll chuck a hundred in... it seems like it's warranted in his case.

LOL Crocodile! sorrow yes, Pity Neva!

Further to Voltaire's comments, like him I am appalled at the no Insurance(not even third party) aspect of this.
earlier this year I asked State how much for third party fire and theft on my old girl and got told it's only third party,No Fire and Theft, and it was going to cost me the princley sum of $24.00 per annum, Yep I said $24.00.
Last year I insured a car with them and until I asked about the third party for my bike I'd not done any other business with them before so it's not that I was a known or privilaged customer.

OK from the top.

The two riders mentioned above were not members of the BFTP group but invited guests.

Neither were insured at all.(Unknown by us, who'd ask?)

A provisional Licence!@#$???.( didn't know that)

Our two up visitor expressed a desire to go quicker than we had up until arriving safely and mostly together at Kopu.

I invited him to go ahead of the main group and told him we'd all arrive at Coromandel at our own pace.

While I'm very glad that Dodgyiti is still with us and mostly in one piece, I'm very upset that there was an accident at all and in particular that it was totally avoidable.

My apologies to anyone who read my original post and got the impression that the car/boat driver was in any way at fault. He wasn't, he lost a lot making sure that a rider wasn't more seriously injured after already crashing into a rock wall .What happened after that was completely out of his hands.

Dodgyiti
19th December 2008, 07:23
i have had 3 accidents in 25 years and over 350,000kms in 5 countries
in all that time i have not had an insurance claim against me.
of my 3 accidents, not one of them was there an insured party.
i insured my first big bike in 1985 and it cost $930 pa which i had to get finance to pay the insurance! at the time as an apprentice i cleared $97 a week (the dole was $113)
the next year, and every year after that i let the insurance lapse because it was not viable to maintain, food held more importance from my meagre wages.
when i turned 25 i insured my road bike again because the rates dropped at that age, it still cost $530
then i let it lapse until this day saving me potentially double what the bike i crashed is worth.
yes i could hit an expensive car next week, but that is the chance i have taken over the years. chance lessened by riding sensibly though

i have this week, rung around for insurance. there are some good deals out there but none seem to fit what i really want, which is the bike im on to have full insurance for unlimited kms.
instead all i can find are deals on per bike and the 'classic type ones' say under 5,000 km a year
the bike i trashed has done over 25,000 this year

the other 2 crashes i lost about 7k in today's money because the persons at fault had no insurance

so all in all, my lack of insurance over the years has not had a negative financial effect.
yes luck had played a part in that, and i dont feel as 'lucky' as i did after this recent hiccup. so i think i am actually going to get full insurance because 3 out of 3 accidents and no one else had any, so i think full as opposed to 3rd party is the go.
the way cars devalue, our bikes are most likely going to be harder/more expensive to repair than the damn cars we may hit

anyone got a majic insurance policy for full insurance on multiple bikes with unlimited kms?

for a grand or less a year for say..3 bikes

I have got the VCC club insurance on the two 30+ bikes at around $120.00 pa each....but as you say 5000 km...etc.
The 900ss is insured thru Go Lightly in ChCh...for $530 for 10k and this covers gear too. Excess is a bit steep at $500.00 but its the first daily rider I have had insurance. I am as guilty in the past riding in NZ for no insurance but having lived in Ireland and England its unavoidable ..but saying that its more affordable as everybody has it.
I think Max has a good scheme on his R90S

10k and gear is good, may have to disconnect the speedo for 6 months of the year though. yes i rode in the uk and (oh dear) wales and petrol was expensive enough, let alone insurance.

opps....the $540 and $10 k refered to the value of the vehicle...k's are unlimited!!!!

with the classic one, its agreed value and the customer sales person said it was basicly around $120 for up to $10k...over that and it increases sharply.
500cc BMW and Ducati 900..same .....go figure.

you know guzzi was asked to design the motor for the early fiat bambi?

my mom had one such Bambina for many years when i was a kid (bought new in '68)

i actually liked it a lot - it was a "special" edition and in red colour :shifty:

and as far as i know that very car is still in use today

with the classic one, its agreed value and the customer sales person said it was basicly around $120 for up to $10k...over that and it increases sharply.

PM Maxheadroom, he has a non club one that might suit you better.

I had a '61 Bamby with suicide doors, they are cool cars. have you seen the new 'reto' one by Fiat, also quite cool, bit of a step up for Guzzi owners though.;)

Hey Caseye,

I trust you had a good holiday. I sure did.... got myself another 35 demerit points to add to the 50 I got in November. The buggers took my licence for the previous 105 points that I already had:(. Not sure if the new 85 get taken off or not:scratch:

I doubt I'll be catching up for a ride in the immediate future:weep:

yup, happy new year, folks!

on my side... bruno is still without the brakes and i have been ill lately, so effectively we've both been "off the road" since mid december last year

so, sadly, i'm not able to plan any rides for the time being :(
i'm very sorry about this as i was looking forward to some longer tours this summer...

however, if any of you fellas feel like initiating a group ride and keeping BFTP alive, that'd be totally cool, and appreciated
you can post the details in this thread - and i can send you the mailing list if you want, or any other info you may need

hopefully, it's not too long before bruno and i can catch up with you guys again. we've had a great time last year!

take care

Sorry to hear that psyguy, I hope that all comes together and that you and Bruno arrive safe and sound on a BFTP run soon.I don't think there's any chance of the run dying mate.
I've been out today riding in the glorious sunshine thinking how where I've just been would be a great mid K's ride for an afternoon, finishing at a nice watering-hole somewhere.
Don't sweat it mate, there's enough of us out there to make sure the rides continue and grow, so get well soon and we'll see you when you get back.

So all you older riders another BFTP run in say 3 weeks time, unless someone has a route they'd like to travel sooner.
Full details posted here perhaps.

Well the 22 nd is out for me, but if we can get together for march the 1st 2009 that';d be great.
There are two options, One we go our own way and do a route I've ridden once lately around the Clevedon area.
Or we could go down to Cambridge and join in with the Ulysisy's annual Cambridge to Hamilton toy Run. This of course would require us all to have a toy to bring and give and a bit of adventure to ride to Cambridge and back on our old, old, OLD machines.
So what say you old bike riders, lets be having your recommendations and numbers expected comments.

There were in excess of 650 motorbikes at the Cambridge Village Green.
We had all roads leading onto the expressway from Cambridge to Hamilton blocked and we rode in complete safety for a change.
The Cancer Kids got a huge truck full of soft toys a few of the riders received some great lucky number draw, prizes, all in all a great day was had by everyone.
Thanks to jmk for the invite to ride with the Waikato Laxed Out Riders, snake and I enjoyed meeting and riding with you, the possibility of meeting up with you guys again guys sometime is a definite!

Meet up with and or saw 5 of the Blast FromThe Past Riders, so I know we are still out there.
Time everyone to get back posting here with ideas for the next ride.

What a fantastic day for riding! though we had just three riders today we went everywhere we'd planned to go and enjoyed some good coffee at the Village in Patumahoe and a fine luncheon at the Muddy in Mercer upon completion of our days ride.
The roads were clean and dry and there was no wind to speak of, traffic was minimal on the roads we used(hardly on main or arterial roads all day) and the long straights and tight corners encountered made for interesting riding.
Average pace was probably 90K's per hour with occassional spurts to make sure everything was working just fine!
Those of us who attended today are definitely going to meet again in 1 months time and though our route will differ we're sure we will have another great day in the sun, having fun.
Pity you all missed it.

As a highly trained, highly intelligent and respected professional, Psy can take a little ribbing from a grubby old Westie like me. He loves it.

Ok then- a couple of pics..
I had an MRI yesterday, seems I have a blown disc and need to get that fixed up before I can do some decent rides. A friend is interested in buying the bike off me, may sell it to him and use the funds to properly pimp out my Mk2. Not sure yet. Loving my little SRX at the moment:eek5:

The only way I could get all the air out of the front brakes on my 1100 was to hang the calipers from the shed roof (with a piece of wood in between the pads). Took a while but I got them there in the end and the brakes are not too bad (for an 82 GS).
I have got braided lines but following the standard pattern, ie one from the master cylinder to the junction block and down to the wheel cylinders from there

Hi everyone, I check the posts on here reguler. Perhaps one day will get up North to ride with you. Been for afew rides with Fridayflash but of late have had odd problem with bikes few weeks son took a bike for a ride thru number three rod thru bottom two cases. last week was going to ride down to Waipawa to get ticket for Cold Duck Rally, twenty minutes down the road odd sound from motor now at idle can hear something pinging around in top end. so this week been some long hours putting project together abit early than planned. Eureka went for a blast today!

well, as you might have read above... after lotsa work to "do up" the brakes they leaked at the calipers.

so, i ordered oem pistons and seals and put them in and heureka no more leaks (not for now anyway).

however, when test riding last friday (with the intention of joining the ride on sunday) i discovered that now the master cylinder leaks, seriously... wtf? :argh:
the m/c was all right while the calipers leaked (must have been "the path of least resistance" kinda thing).

anyhow, i'll take the cylinder apart (again!), remove the aftermarket piston/seals i though was an upgrade and go back to 30y/o original parts - hopefully that'll do the trick.

interestingly though, the brakes are quite good even with the leak at the master cylinder

Hey there wickle. nice to hear from you and anytime you want to ride that beautiful machine with us just come on UP! brother. That is one nice bike.
Psy we missed having you out front mate, as we missed almost all the other BFTP riders except me,Voltaire and the jmk's from Hamiltonia, hey Karen and Craig thanks for coming and helping with making the numbers almost respectable for such a grand day! Murray , there ya go, we had 4 in actuality and some in spirit.psy and Croc and ol wickle from Napier(was down your way 2 weeks ago and on the old girl, now I know I'll drop ya a hoi if I'm coming that way again)
Croc mate, WHAT A RIDE most beautiful day for riding I've seen or had the pleasure of riding in for years.
Sorry bout the brakes and the Rellies (pesky critters them rellies) but next time aye.
Come on everyone I know you are still out there, another ride in approx 4 weeks.
Perhaps venturing a bit further south through the unknown world of the Hauraki swamps, Max Headroom! I'll be relying on you as chief guide! ya up for it?
We rode from the Ak Botanical gardens to Ardmore airfield, a quick reccee on the strip, nothing doing here, then on to the Patumohoe Village Bar and kitchen, via Runciman and Paerata, then after stopping for a coffee there we continued on to Waiuku detouring through town and then over the hill(Pukekohe Mountain) to the race track.Nupe nothing going on here, there was actually, looked like a classic meet, cars and I believe bikes.
Onwards we went to Tuakau and the old bridge then on up to Onewhero and finally over to the Muddy at Mercer, a nice cold beer with lunch and a rendezvous with the Waikato Laxed Out Riders , we got introduced to many of their guys and girls and generally had a great time shooting the breeze about the weather, bikes and of course bikes, did I mention the bikes?
Me and Voltaire then jumped back on our ever trusty and reliable steeds and headed off to Pokeno and then to the hotel Du vine road and up to Bombay and across to Hunua through the gorge(great twisties )for our old café racer type machines to get right into.
Up and over the rise to Ardmore and then to home for a coffee on the deck, had a blast, thanks Voltaire for a great days riding and the excellent company.

Thanks Pete,

Whilst air was a problem I did get there eventually... excessive lever travel is the real problem.

I ended up making up a 2.5mm by 13mm dia plastic spacer disc to insert between the end of the master cylinder piston and the seal mounted on the spring.

The effect this had was to push the seal closer to (but not over) the relief hole in the reservoir when the lever is at rest. This in turn means that less lever movement is wasted before the the hole is covered so fluid pressure can build and brakes start to engage. The big fluid fountain coming from the hole is now just a little squirt.;)

The end of the lever previously traveled about 40mm toward the throttle before fluid pressure was able to start building up. now it takes only 10mm of travel to get to the same point. The lever is now well clear of the throttle grip under max braking rather than hard against it. Two finger braking is now possible.

Yay...

Hi JMK.

If your brakes locked up til you released a bleed nipple it is likely that two things are happening.

1. fluid and/or air in the pots and lines has heated and expanded and 2. the relief hole in the master cylinder reservoir has become blocked and prevents the pressurised caliper pots and lines from releasing pressure on the pads and disc.

The problem should be solved by cleaning out the very small hole (there are likely one big and one small holes)

Consider flushing the fluid if not done recently as dirty fluid may be the reason the hole blocked.

I gotta learn to stop fiddling.

I wanted to stop a couple of minor oil leaks around the cam end covers, so bought some new half moon cam end seals and loosened the cover bolts then tried to pull the seals out. Dam things are glued in and I've munted the existing seal edges so it's gonna leak wholesale now . Have to take the cover off to replace them and didn't think I'd need a new cover gasket so now have to order one locally (prolly cost as much as a full set of gaskets from the states).

Lesson here is... Don't fu*^%@ng fiddle:spanking:

That's the original (cept for the BFTP letters) that I found for a group called the "Ton up club". The kiwi on the side is a Tardme watermark that gets stuck on pics hosted on their pages. I made a new one without the spade and have linked it into the BFTP group gallery and my own here and KB. (the one in my sig)

edit.. hers's another link to the new one but watermabked with the tardme kiwi

Lol... just figured out what you were on about with the "kiwi" if you look closely at the original pic you can see a spade in the middle (as in the playing card suit) with the letters 'MC' (for Motorcycle Club) inside the spade and a speedo needle to the side .. Lol... they ain't a kiwi LMFAO

Details as below .

Mystery Creek Field Days Hamilton Sunday the 14th June 2009.
Meet at the BP on the Southern Motorway at Papakura.
Outside The Autobahn cafe.
Arrive at 9.30am, for a 10am start.
Ride down to Hammy. pick up the boys and girls from down there, they can tell us where.
Then on to Mystery Creek and the Field Days.
Enjoy a day wandering about the many displays etc and either ride home as you need to leave or as a group depending on numbers.
Then I was thinking maybe the next date should be the PUHOI Farmers Market on teh 28th June!
Again any takers?

Generally if your bike is younger than 1990 it doesn't qualify for these runs, we don't habitually break the speed limit and we don't pass on double yellow lines , so if you ARE that way inclined, ride with another group is my suggestion.

hi all, just a quick post about our ride from the weekend just gone,
fridayflash and myself are members of the hawkes bay classic club
and a ride was organised amongst regulars to head up to waikaremoana
lake, we headed north out of napier on the shittest, wettest, coldest
saturday morning imaginable, stopped for a re-group at the waikare pub
and then on to 'cafe 287' on the outskirts of wairoa for a spot of lunch
and a cuppa to thaw out the hands!
then after fueling up at wairoa proper we headed over to the local
british motorcycle clubhouse for a beer and a chat with the friendly
members.
then it was back out into the rain for a fairly spirited haul out to
tuai village where the road turned into an absolute mud and gravel
slurry! which was a lot of fun and kept us all on our toes and
gratefully not a single bike was dropped.
once out at the lake we all piled into our little self contained units
and switched on heaters, ovens and light bulbs in an effort to
warmup.
after a few coffees and a hot meal we headed over to the cook house
for a few beers and a catchup with the rest of team to share the tall
stories etc.
sunday morning dawned just as shite as the day before so we donned the
gear again and headed out through the slurry and over to
wairoa for lunch at oslers cafe and bakery
then the final ride back to napier at a lesiurely pace.
a great little ride and a great place to stay
we think well make it a regular winter fixture:crazy:

Good news! Another Napier lad is coming up for the ride. He is a member of another bike forum that I joined and when prompted with the ride details has responded...

"Thanks for the invite to your anniversary ride. The fact that two other Napier GS riders are going has swayed my decision. If the weather is looking anything other than rat shit, I will be there.

I have met Mark (Wickle) a couple of weeks ago. He didn't say anything about the anniversary ride (Naughty Wickle) . He does actually own MANY GS and GSX bikes. (Ok all forgiven):woohoo:

My sign up to Kiwi Rider is long overdue. I'll take care of that this week. You can then list me as #14.

Cheers

Had planned to leave in morning, rain not the problem just wind one report said strong gusts might ring Mark to get up date in morning

this is from metservice:
Heavy rain should spread south during Saturday morning and not ease until Sunday. Up to 150mm of rain is possible in northland, especially about the eastern hills from Whangarei northwards. For the Rodney District north of Warkworth, Great Barrier Island, the Coromandel Peninsula and Kaimai Range up to 120mm is likely.

Gale force easterlies are forecast to develop at a similar time to the heavy
rain, turning southeast during Sunday. Damaging gusts of 120 to 140 km/h are
possible during Saturday and Sunday, especially about the higher ground of
Northland, Auckland, Great Barrier Island and the Coromandel Peninsula, as well as about the Hauraki Plains.

the forecast from this morning is pretty much the same... heavy storm hitting later saturday and clearing only from sunday afternoon.

i'm thinking to postpone the "big" ride for finer weather, hopefully one of the coming weekends.

if the weather does clear by sunday afternoon, perhaps whoever is available and keen could meet for a short ride on a short notice, like caseye suggested ? (i would be in for that one).
