This is happening on the same day psyguy http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=72686 all over the country....your ride could end up in Hamilton for the last leg back to Auckland?
We will be out there no matter what the weather (only a cyclone will stop us)

i'm aware of that event
we are likely to be only a small group and meeting for the first time so may be impractical to tie rides together this time around
maybe we can drop by at the mechanics bay though
cheers

If you are planning to do that can you please register on the event on the callander. We have to fill out an OSH form for the Helicopter base stating the number of adults and children that are going to be there.

Hi guys, I had my name down for this and bugger, called back to work a couple of days earlier. Oh well thats me away for a month so enjoy the ride. But I am keen to get together for another. My old girl isn´t the prettiest (bit like the rider) but it is mechanically very sound with a couple of interesting improvements. Been meaning to get onto the appearance for some time as she´s got a hideous paint job. But stands out..

exploring the roads for our ride and we're all set now, have a few options of different lenghts so will decide on the day
all nice unpopulated backroads
found a good spot in albany to meet , caltex station on SH17 by the warehouse in albany mega centre, a covered parking nearby in case it rains
can also meet beforehand in westgate with anyone heading from that direction (like myself)
will update the details in the calendar soon

You done anything with the 1000L pipes yet? If you're really bored, would you like to restore my 1100GK for me?

Bollocks!... I have personally looked into the matter and can confirm with certainty that the weather is clearing late Friday and it's going to be a dry sunny (but nippy) Saturday morning with clouds returning in the later afternoon and a possibility of light showers developing in the evening:sunny:.

Well what a day, rode from south Auckland to Albany in pouring rain. Meet up with a die Hard bunch of old bike riders, who arrived axactly on time and wityhout fuss we took off.psyguy lead us off and we went for miles on some damn fine roads, rain with us all the way but still no drama's. Our fianl destination was warm and welcoming and a pint of their finest went down well before we all scarpered for home.
Thanks to Alive for his help when after our ride I got a flat tyre just before the beginning of the northwestern.
He made sure no one collected me from behind while I rode about a half a mile using counter sterring to keep the bike on the road to the Repco there.
A Pando application and I was home, cheers again Alive.
Great ride guys love to do another soon.

Damn, i had you guys in my rear view mirror at first but then you disappeared. As Alive took off before the rest of us, i actually had doubts if it was really him in my rear view mirror with you caseye. And as i dont know where you live / where you were headed, i didn't think twice about why you two suddenly disappeared.
I wish i had turned around and checked!
Glad to hear all went well in the end.
A timely reminder for me to carry a bottle of that fix-a-flat-tire stuff!

Good ride and a pleasure to meet some more bikers...
Simon, I have 2 of those switches you need a button for and Caseye the 2 sets of disk rotors are about 270mm across... I reckon they'll bolt straight on your bike.... PM me if your interested.
Definately keen on the next ride

Cheers guys that was a great ride, and good to meet you all.
Cheers flyingcrocodile46 for making sure that I made it to the petrol station ok for fuel. Must get that oil leak seen to as well, but there was more than enough to get home.
I laughed so hard when we went up that winding single track road, I actually thought psyguy was joking when he said it was narrow. I half expected to arrive at a front door step to a house as it was more like a driveway.
Alive have pm'd you about the button, cheers for that.

please note that this time the ride is on sunday
this should hopefully allow some folks that work saturdays to join us
the route is likely to be similar to the last one, maybe a bit longer weather permitting
flyin croc, if you would advise those couple of folks that may join us if they want to register on the site here it would help streamline sending reminders / updates
rogson, iirc you also mentioned someone who might be interested in this ride, so the same for them - if they might want to register here, thatd be great
looking forward to some nice weather on sunday :sunny:

Another good time ride, weather be damned, we did! Thanks psyguy, awesome roads and that sideways crawl thing we were doing on top of the Helensville ridge was quite something.
Enjoyed every minute, very glad I had replaced both old tyres and tightened ths steering head, fixed the front brakes and finally changed over the intake manifolds.
If we can ride in weather like this and enjoy it, which I know we did then anyone else contemplating coming along needs to harden up! LOL.
Wind =off the chart, Debris= log jams in some places.Other crashed motorists, remembeer that poor lady by the Kumeu turn off guys, well there were enough of them to remind us to ride to the conditions.
Oh and did i mention rain?
Well it started as usual the minute I opened the door to the garage and it didnt stop till i got hom some 4 or so hours later.
But hey was still worth it to catch up and see the newest member of our hardy groups bike.A classic,90S, resplendent in awesome paint and a well worked over frame and engine.
A pleasure riding with that hardy soull Max Headroom , he came all teh way from the deep south, he he he, somewhere near Te Kauwhata to ride with us. Cheers mate, see you on the next one. by the way guys there are honest people out there after all.Got my wallet back, complete with cash and cards a fine older gentleman had seen it fall from the seat and stopped to pick it up.Neat aye?Course now I've got to wait for new cards etc but thats a samll price to pay.
Next please psyguy,I'm in.

at this stage what i'd like to do is to see how the weather plays for this coming weekend and if the forecast looks promissing i would post for a "short notice" ride
a short notice may not work for everyone but with the downpour we had the last two times that didnt work for too many people either :buggerd:
as we head into the nicer part of the year i think we could have regular rides every two-three weeks

I've got the Z1R completely stripped at the moment but hoping to get it back on the road this summer then I'll come out with you guys. Was riding her last Xmas so she's not a garage ornament. yeah, very true caseye, last time i didnt have to wash the bike off after the ride at all, it was so clean from all that rain - in your average rain/shower the bike always gets a grey-ish film thats not so easy to wipe off - but the last time i guess the roads didnt stand a chance getting dirty because of the quantity of fresh waters from the sky :gob:
the same with my jacket, all very clean, the reflective stripes all bright again...

Project "Z" is coming along, I have to make a tank, tail end and fairing for it.
Im probably going to style it a bit on the ZX10.
It looks pretty bad at the moment but when its put together and the paintwork done it will look a whole lot better.
Im aiming for 200BHP from the engine, the wheelbase is 100mm shorter than the standard Z1300, upside down forks (ZX12R) single shock rear (Hayabusa) ZX12R wheels, Z1300 fuel injection and a Subaru WRX Turbo

My guess is that I will pretty soon find out, Im going to have to get the final drive (crown wheel & pinion) remanufactured to give me the right ratio but the rest of it should be ok. I will have to remake the driveshaft with two universal joints instead of one because of the much wider wheel.

i'm asking as over at the GS forums guys say that the shaft setup on the GS bikes cant take that kind of power
but it's also true that noone even tries that (gs shaft drives are 8v engines)since there are 1100 16v gs(x)engines with sprokets - and those are better/easier for beefing up anyway
pete376403
13th August 2008, 21:14
I'm pretty sure the GS shaft drive is the same right through the Suzuki range so the GSX1100G and the Cavalcade got the same backend as the 850/1100 two valvers. I have used the splined drive (connects the drive to the wheel) from a GS650 Katana in my GS1100 - was identical.
I've not had a close look at the M109R cruiser but I wouldn't be surprised if they used the same rear end there as well.
The final drive is pretty rugged anyway - has a three bearing pinion for example (extra bearing at the nose of the pinion) which is quite uncommon except in very heavy duty car diffs like the Ford 9". The pinion and ring gears are quite large as well. You'd be doing well to break these things.

Hey just thought I'd drop you guys a line!
Anyway I'm keen to come out one day but got knocked of the old girl on New years day last Xmas. First time she's been down in the 18 years I've owned her anyway.
I can sympathise with Alive! It bloody hurts to see your old bike hit the dirt. With the old girl layin there and you thinkin OH Shit! why did that stupid cager have to do that to her and what am I gonna find when I lift her up!! Still rode it home though that's a Kwaka for you!!
That prompted a complete strip down and repaint the frame etc. Not turning it into a show bike as its a rider and always will be! Not to much damage! Lucky I had the race 4 into 1 on her and not the original exhaust. Here's a pic.
Second pic is the only bit I can't buy new! The dash surround. Anyone know where I can get my hands on one, even second hand!
Just thought I'd post so you didn't think I was full o crap! Thanks all CYA out there soon!

reckless, that's a nasty damage to the gauges surround/dashboard
at first i didnt see what you meant but then when i saw it it really hurt
while looking for a spare i think i'd want to take that one off completely so at least it's not a constant reminder of that awfull day...
i assume a dashboard could be made out of fiberglass?
Reckless
29th August 2008, 12:07
Once I stripped it no damage to the gauges just need to straighten the base plate etc. Damage looks worse then it is. I'm lucky it, the 900 and Z1000 are cult bikes so I can buy new all new bits ie stripe kit, screen, Fairing, foot pegs & side covers etc etc So it will probably come up better then ever before. I have most of the pieces of the dash surround so could probably repair it, if pushed. Someone will have one somewhere. I hope!

T-boning a car was the reason I rebuilt the zed too, a nipper in a Honda Civic pulled out in front of me and I smashed him in the right rear quarter, I went head first through the side window and the little bastard drove off with my head still in the window:mad:

It's the rotten cop who took my license off me when I got cramp in my throttle hand for a minute:innocent: who should be apologising................ for been born :angry2:
I was stopped at lights for about 20 seconds or so, wondering  where the sound of the siren was coming from.:slap: The light changed green as he came around the corner into view :thud:
Only thing I learned is... to cut a track when I hear or even sniff a pig again.
No Quota, my arse :tugger:.
It's my observation that Serious crime (Murders, Crippling assaults, Rapes, Thefts and fraud) rates have run rampant every year for the last 30 years, well and truly eclipsing escalation rates of traffic infringements. (we only used to have 1 or 2 murders a year. Now it's the weekly rate)
Why isn't there a quota or bonus system for solving REAL CRIME?
I can only speculate that the reasons likely include:
1. It's too hard  .. Yeah!.. must be challenging for shitwits that are too f%@#ing retarded to look for bodies in victims cars outside a crime scene until the stink of the decayed corpse eclipses the rank smell of their own rotted brains.
2. As a collective they profit from traffic fines resulting from persecuting soft targets and as individuals they either profit from payoffs to turn a blind eye to hard targets (real criminals) or otherwise aren't interested in pursuing them as there is no profit in it. And of course they are too busy with their own corrupt activities to waste time catching *other* rapists/assaulter/extortionists.
3. They are scared shitless of confronting real criminals.
There was I time that I had sufficient respect for the integrity of the police to put my own life in danger to help save one of theirs when outnumbered by bad guys. (didn't even get so much as a get off free card for my trouble) There ain't any chance of that happening again as I couldn't be sure I wouldn't actually be helping a bad guy.... Frankly, I wouldn't give them the steam off my shit.

All good guys. Glad you enjoyed it and nice to see some new faces. We tend to get a mixed bag of riders and machines so are well used to a range of different speeds and usually use the tail end charlie and pointer system which tends to cater better for the differing bike speeds. I normally go tail end so it was nice to take a break and stretch it out for a change.

so far, we've explored the backroads of nor-west auckland - and btw, did a good job, i would think :shifty:
now, it would be great if people who know of other good roads would share that with us so we could have rides in other areas, too
maybe, outskirts of east or south auckland ? or any other roads or trips that you know?
looking forward to your suggestions!

Nice one again Ivor:clap:, of course we hold you fully responsible for every bit of gravel:niceone:
Interesting for my first time on loose stuff with that bike, the changes I made really worked against me, a standard bike with standard wheelbase and tire sizes would have been way better.
If your interested how it came about, I blathered about it here:

Ummm.. Not that I'll be coming  but My vote would be to go via Kawakawa Bay, Whakatiwai, Miranda, Kopu to Thames (The Goldmine Bar & Brasserie) then on to Tapu, Mania, Coromandel (Coromandel Star & Garter Hotel) Then across to Kuaotunu then Whitianga (Snapper Jacks Restaurant & Bar or the Sand Bar across the road). Then on to Tairua and past Hikuai to Kopu and back to Akld. Lots of places we can stop for extra breaks on the way..(did I say 'we'?):innocent:

This map shows it pretty clearly when enlarged a little more. http://zoomin.co.nz/ Off at Manurewa left into the Botanical Gardens, there's a Mobil gas station a little further down Hill road which is on our way to Clevedon and the Kawakawa road so all covered nicely.

Do you know if there is a gas station nearby Caseye?
Assuming 450 to 500 km @ 100 kph (lots of twisty roads) and allowing 15 minutes at start and again for 2 coffee/gas stops and another 45 to 60 minutes for lunch and say 4 more (2 each way) stop points to regroup 5-10 minutes each for a total of 2.25 hours out of saddle and approx 4.75 in the saddle. Makes for 7 hours
A 9:00am start would put us back at CBD around 4:00pm

Gas is available 300 metres away from ther Botanical Gardens at the Hill road Mobil station.
Also Gas is avaialable in almost every town we pass through.
Though for our trip, a gas stop at Kopu then perhaps Coromandel or Whitianga then home should do us, but rest assurred theres enough open stations to get there and back without running out.
