Stopping is the joke IMO

Don't feel bad cmoore. I got 1 month loss for 95 in a 50 in early Sept 08 then another for 145 in a 100 in Nov (about a week after I got it back) so had it taken off me for another month..

Of course the points on the first one put me over (once fine paid) and I instantly lost my licence for another 3 months, and I didn't pay the second one for another two weeks so the points for that one were awarded to me at the start of my (supposodly clean slate) but would have been wiped along with all my other points if I'd paid them all at the same time. FUCK.

and I got another 20 for doing 105 towing a trailer in Jan 09 (the week before I paid the first fine) so I didn't just start with 50 points....... I went for the whole 70 so I'm fucked again

Hope you feel better now

I have to go past 3 schools to get to work. Tickets suck when they are for 54km from a camera van that parks 800mtrs away from a high school !!!
In the work ute its just off 1400rpm at 60km in 5th. I just leave it in 3rd now.

AND according to those electric speed warning signs my speedo at 60km is 51km to there sign, BULLSHIT !!! I got a ticket for doing 60km(on my speedo) of 59km.
DONT trust there speed signs , there only there to set you up with there dodgy low low readings

Fan bloody Tastic you guys and girls.
Just before Is tart on about how excellent the whole weekends activities were I thought I'd let you all in on a little secret.
Te he.
Go here.
http://www.rankers.co.nz/reviews
Don't forget it's worth the effort others need to know how poorly we were treaterd by these people.

Well a brilliant ride down, Trina on her Keeway leading the way excellently and with absolutely no fuss whatsoever.
Rain? what rain, got a few drips here and there.
Enjoyed the afternoon and the two groups who went to the Mongomomona pub and Smash Palace thoroughly enjoyed their excursions.
Our chosen venue for the meal and get together(The Flax Cafe and restaurant) could not have been better .Our Taxi?Read Bus driver was just perfect and he made us welcome and accomodated us with pride and courtesey.
Taumaranui was a good experience and the BFTP will no doubt make it a destination for future reference, However we won't be staying at the Taumaranui Holiday Park ever again!
Surfer, mate I'm glad you held on for the ride and didn't come off, that could so easily have been another close to me recovering from an accident.I hope to hear that old girl roar into life again soon.
psy-guy Excelllent man you are, great idea and everything worked out according to plan,I am sure I speak for the otheres when I say, thanks for making it happen right from way back when to now, the BFTP is growing daily and we are going to enjoy more events such as this in the future.

I enjoyed the rally too.
Unfortunately my bike developed a spot of ducati-itis on the way home with some odd electrical gremlins. Managed to nurse it home OK, although died on me altogether on the Southern Motorway (it idled fine but sounded like it was only running on 1 cyl and the lights and indicators were doing weird things - mamaged to clutch crawl 1 km to an off ramp and after getting off the motorwayin a pool of sweat let it sit a while then it was back on again and apparently OK), so instead of doing the sensible thing and summoning my wife and a trailer to rescue me took a chance and got back on. I took it real easy the rest of the way and made it home OK so all good. Its now in the shed as a project bike.
Anyway great ride back up the Western Access and through to Te Awamutu. Sorry to hear abouts Surfers bad luck, i remember someone saying they thought it sounded like a piston pin ready to let go.

Tai, Sorry to hear about the italian contagion that got to your bike.

Even though he was segregated from us normal folks I reckon it must be Voltaire's fault. Interestingly, the people closest to his tent were Surfer and Dooly????

I did ride back with Voltaire and Psy Guy and Voltaire suggested ithe italian-ness must have jumped across. Ha Ha.
I elected the chance it up the motorway by myself as wanted to get the bike home asap. They went the sensible scenic route via Pukekohe from Ngaruwahia.

been over to Hastings with Fridayflash, cloth badges approx: 8cm across , small writing on bottom would be to small to be included, estimated price $8-00 each this includes one off set up fee, depending on numbers ordered could effect price ,, can you post me direct if interested.

Yes, well I do have a Ducati like Volty, so we can share the blame.

Still reckon dragging his precious gate down the road would of been cool.

Great weekend, Great company and great riding , Good to put faces to the names , Whangamomana is a top spot!

The LC even made it, even with its nip up on the Taupo, The guy at the engine shop said "Run it in carefully, I have done the piston/bore clearence for your ROAD bike"

Hard out at 7500 up a looong hill after 100kms was the wrong way lol
All good now , got heaps of grunt , lifts the front thru 3 gears and pulls 9500 easy

Got some good pics from The Forgoten Highway, Just my camera dont want to talk to my PC. I try again later.

I will try to on that ranker site and give that ignorant prick a wind up. happy to take the money then be a complete Cock !

So does "Mr Boofhead" own or just manage the camp Dodgy?
the owners need to know hes wrecking there camp if hes just a manager

I thought Colin(bikemad) was going to deck him, What a top bloke mate ;-) was cracking up when he called him a tosser and he said "I'm not a tosser and all pack your gear and get out"

Might know were some XS parts are if you need any Surfer

Yeah, I'm looking for a new engine - or certainly the engine casing. I haven't pulled it apart yet as I'm in the process of moving so will be a while till I get round to fixing it up.

Great to meet everyone and have a catch up. Well done to those for doing an excellent job on the organising side. What a great ride, well the bit of the ride that I actually did before the engine crapped itself - should have listened to the wise words of Maxheadroom and trailered it home. Hindsight is a marvelous thing. Was an interesting experience though. Very happy to be upright at the end of it. Thought the noise was getting worse and was thinking of pulling over sometime.

Many thanks for stopping guys and gals and special thanks to flyingcroc for the pillion and his missus for the ride home after the AA promised twice that me and my bike would go to Auckland that day. The bike arrived today with small damage (indicator hanging off and a bent gear level pedal - goodness knows how they managed that) so I am thankful as it could have been worse. I am really pleased I upgraded my AA as it has paid for itself in terms of trailering costs six or seven times over at least.

Really nice campsite on the river, lovely spot. Shame about Mr Boofhead spoiling it for everyone, great name - suits him lol. What a complete prick he was. Did everyone manage to do their poos before 10am?

Cheers

Im in for a patch and I wonder if anyone is interested in getting the picture Croc put up in the Group section done up with names etc. I would love a copy. Tried doing it on a printer but a bit small and did a highlight and print of all names for rememberance sake.

Great weekend, Trina was a bit dubious about coming away on her little 2008 Keeway Super Shadow with a bunch of older bikes but she had a ball and thanks everyone (as I do) for being so friendly and welcoming. Hate to say it but Mr Boofhead probably did us a favour, gave us a great conversation piece and united us as one.

Absolutely Brilliant weekend and I dont think I want to wait another year to meet up with all you guys again! maybe 6 monthly would be good.

Cheers and Beers (lotsa) to all

T'was an excellent weekend. Great to catch up with the BFTP members. Duke clocked up over a 1000 kms before the speedo cable fell off and I had to walk back and get the inner,
The electrics were perfect ....I just decided to use the kick start , not indicate or have my lights on iin the sprit of old bikes.
Never had to get out my BMW tool kit, tyre levers, pump, spare tube, multimeter and wire at all.
Started first kick many a time even with an audience.
Glad to hear Surfer and Status Quo make it home.

Letting the Holiday Park Association know what happened to us was a mistake! They simply forwarded my email to the Taumaranui Holiday Park (In which I specifically stated "I did not want to make it a formal complaint") No matter I've received an email from the THP and it tells me I got it wrong! Was I there? think I was! Ah what the hell, in case any KB'ers didn't get the message the Taumaranui Holiday Park made our stay unpleasant and invited us in no uncertain terms to pack our gear and leave, not going there again unless it's sold or hell freezes over.

4. How much oil should your motor hold?

Hi Ratti

The BFTP Paeroa Race day ride update.

What a beautiful day for riding motorbikes. Bit hot for standing around in the sun watching lunatics canning it around Paeroa streets but cool to watch all the same.

Voli, Ixion, Bikemad and self met as planed and had a nice relaxed ride down. On arriving the obligatory mussel fritter was wolfed down. Wandered around checking out the various stands, watched some warm up laps then had to cool down inside the RSA:apint::apint::apint:
then caught up with Status Quo as we wandered down to the Ohinerwahaithingy club for lunch where Max Headroom caught up with us :apint::apint:very nice filled rolls too.

After desert at Le Whippy:), we made our way to the pit area and said hi to Peter Smith (BFTP member Post classic racer) who came 3rd in his first race of the day:clap::clap::clap: Well done Peter.

Watching those fellas up close is pretty impressive. They push bloody HARD.

Anyhoo after that we made our way to the hairpin to watch the side cars for a very little bit before an accident delayed racing............... Gosh it's hot. Is that a hotel over there? Ahhhhhhhh :apint:

We bailed early as racing was still delayed and had a nice cooling ride home.

Gad started missing bad when I was about 30 km from home... Dunno what that's about. Dare say I will have to do something about it <_<

Thanks for coming along guys Was great fun.

For those wanting to see pics :bleh: Shoulda come down and taken your own:laugh:

Hi Colin,

Turns out you didnt miss much by leaving early because they canned the rest of the meeting due to the fact that both ambulances had to leave the circuit for about an hour +. Pissed me off as i got there later so i could stay till the end.
I caught up with some Triumph RAT guys and didnt get a chance to catch up with you again.
Riding home i had to stop and have a rest- heat exhaustion - didnt drink enough water + too much sun.

Lucky to not get pinged by a cop on radar on the way home.

Cheers

Croc, I only met you & your wife at Taumaranui, and thought you were a great bloke, as were all I met there.
Us HBers are in the throes of organising a BFTP get together where we can party/ride and not worry about camp leaders etc, and we'd love you to join us.

Please reconsider your thoughts of leaving and come back to the fold.

Hi Ratti,

I seem to recall (prompted by seeing your reply to Caseye) that you have something to do with making bike gear? Is that correct?
I'm keen on getting a two piece suit with lots and lots of breather holes through the leather (cause I can't stand the heat) but my pear shaped body doesn't lend itself to off the shelf suits. So am considering having a set made to order. My gut doesn't like bomber style (waist band) jackets so need something a bit longer (touring style cut) and pants that look more like jeans (boot cut with zips). I also like knee, hip, elbow, shoulder and back armour so would need pockets for them (which obviously effects the fit). Is this something that you can help with?

I can't get past chain oil on the disc. Looks purty enough but no oil will result in very short chain & sprocket/disc life. Whereas oiling the chain will almost certainly result in oil on the pads and no back brakes. Least that's the way I see it.

My RZ will be ready for it, It will much nicer to ride after replacing fork seals, steering head bearings, and unsiezing the front calipers.

are your brakes binding?

flyingcrocodile46
30th March 2010, 21:31
No and No. There is a bit of pulsing though. The gaps between the carrier and disc open and close as the wheel is turned. It has been suggested that the carriers might be damaged. I am waiting for a set coming from Canada and will swap them out. A complete clutch sans basket also coming, so should be able to sort out enough plates to stop it slipping.

30th March 2010, 23:33
Hi Croc. Hows things?
Are the gaps even when you turn the wheel and keep light drag on the brakes? I am thinking that the pads have worn into the disc and they are pulling or pushing the disc off centre on the rivets as the wheel turns. Is the unswept strip on the edge have a consistant width right round. Does that make sense?

Gidday Dadpole. The gaps change as the wheel is turned (not checked with light drag on brakes). Will check the ridge after work to see if it's even.

Have a fun filled safe riding trip to the Hawkes Bay all you Blast From The Past guys and girls.

You not going Caseye??

Baz has lost a lot of weight and a fair bit of functionality while he is undergoing a comprehensive and much needed (but slow) catch up on maintenance. starting with striping forks and installing a bigger spacer to the fork springs & new seals, Steering head bearings, wheel bearings, front brake lines, overhaul front calipers & MC, replace wrong instruments with right instruments, replace broken left control, fit Motoguzzi LeMans Mk4 fairing & light, install steering damper, install JMK's old 4to1, replace rear shock (if can find) or recon????, replace front discs and swap out clutch plates.... and stage 2... Strip down motor, rebore, new valve seals, re seat valves (and what ever else necessary)..

While under way I confirmed my worst fears... that the wiring that was hiding in a birds nest of flexible conduit was butchered to bits. Dozen wires cut off and abandoned (mostly instruments I think) and dozen more spliced in and elcrapo quality crimps everywhere  I think a replacement loom is the only way to go for a colour blind electrickery hick like me.

On another note (that is to say another bike.. "Gad") I used my 4" cut off grinder to machine up a 14mm diameter 3mm thick aluminum spacer for my front master cylinder to eliminate current 33% waste of lever travel. (Plastic dissolves in brake fluid:doh:) Lever travel is about 10% now.
I also made a base plate and tapped a thread into it then double stick taped it to my radar detector so I can attach it to my previously made up camera mount and I hard wired a telephone cable (which happened to have the right connection for the radar detector) for the power supply. I might even get to use it if my gasket ever gets here so I can replace the magneto and get enough power to run it, the light and the indicators at the same time.

Hi Croc.
Good to see Baz getting the love he deserves. I think you may be going to far though. You don't need a steering damper. They just take away the excitement on bumpy corners.
Your 'wiring job' may have been to bypass the monitoring system for the lights - a common mod. If you want to spend the time, you could make a 'minimal' harness just to run the essentials. That should save about 5kg.
The old boy will look good soon. If you as stuck for any bits, give me a yell.

Looking good Croc. You've been busy!

Lol. Not as busy as I'm gonna have to be to put all the bits back together. :eek5:

My triple tree bearings are knackered and my forks on max preload are way too soft (about 50mm static sag). Have partly (so far) stripped forks and found that the springs are 12mm better than service limits. A 25mm spacer was installed and 250ml of dirty oil (18ml under spec but maybe trapped in damper). Will try a 50 to 60mm spacer and see how that goes. I measured spring x coils and worked out that the springs will still compress 50mm more than the 135mm travel of the forks so should be ok ... hopefully.

Will try and spend another couple of hours in teh man cave tonight to see what other stuff I can break.

Dadpole
21st April 2010, 23:48
50mm spacers seem way too much Croc. If it needs more than a 25mm spacer then there must be another option. A nice new set of progressives perchance? Another El Cheapo option (my favourites) is a tiny set of springs. I an trying to remember what bike I had that had a heavy set about 75mm long. :brick:
BTW. A shock of a H@#*a CBR900 is reputed to fit.

Yes it will be difficult squeezing it all back into the tubes. I might go with 40mm and thicker fork oil. Dunno if the anti dive dampers are worth leaving on or taking off. Whatchu think?

I have read that linkage mods are required for Fartblade shocks and that you ended up with less travel?? A Ducati Monster 900 is the same size and shape. only have to file a seam off the case and she's all go but still less travel.

Btw. I think the numbers 90 95 85 90 written on the frame top tube by the PO are probably very very sad compression readings. The good news from that is, that I can look forward to a much gruntier Baz when I get around to fixing the engine. Did I tell you that my clutch has started slipping in top gear when he hits 165km under acceleration?:innocent:

Since I do not know how to post pictures in the Group section I have put it here. Trina thinks you are all such wonderful people (choke choke) and after being on the 2 rally's held so far and not having a BFTP bike she's decided she needs one. Thanks Rachel for showing her the light.

So here it is coming to a rally near you soon (If we get it up and running good enough. Needs a bit of work) Dodgey - you moved in yet?? I promise I will bring a couple of cans of coke when we come looking for your help!!!

WoooooHoooooo Cool choice of bike. Trina will be the real deal now eh!

Jase. No real progress apart from a little bit of paint stripping and cleaning. Gotta pull finger and start ordering parts. Maybe if they start piling up I will get all enthusiastic and have a decent spurt.

I think 'Lethargic' is the word you are thinking of.

I am in the same boat Croc. I really must get motivated and get stuck into my lump. If I mess around, it will be like the work done last winter - none at all.

Hi Trina. Nice bike. Look forward to seeing it at a rally soon.

Just call me Britney.

I went and bought another Baz (fully faired and complete)ly poked:yes:. Well a broken shock linkage (oil leaks, oil burning and other issues) but otherwise he is pretty much all there.

Dodgy kindly loaned his services and trailer to do the pick up on Sunday. He started real easy and dropped straight down to a steady idle from cold, warmed it up and revved him a bit, he was a bit smokey but seemed to run well and sounded quiet. (the bike was much the same) though he has a sump/pan leak (maybe sump plug) so looks like I'll be stripping and cleaning carbs (or borrowing Baz's) and fixing his oil leak as well as replacing the cushion lever before I take him for a run.

When I got home I repeated the exercise and he was fine till wound up to 6k rpm plus then he choked MASSIVE SOOTY BACKFIRES and wanted to die but managed to gentle him down to an idle. :whocares:

The PO kept a record of all his oil changes, tyres, chains, oil filters, plugs etc. I can see he changed oil regularly at 2800 to 3300km's and fork oil & plugs about 5,000.

He has just recently had a brand new starter motor and chain installed but the PO had no recollection or record of any carb or valve work in the last ten years (if ever) so I'm optimistically relying on a good carb clean to solve his woes :innocent:

Tonight I carried on stripping Baz down (SWMBO is actually sad to see Baz being pulled apart:gob:So seems agreeable to spending a bit to make him into a SUPER BAZ :innocent: (fingers crossed for a front and rear GSXR upgrade to got with the big bore kit).

211209

I figured I'd start with pinching Baz's rear shock lever and have just finished the transplant (does it always involve removal of airbox and battery box or am I doing it back to front), swapped air filters, fired him up and went for a crawl round the block. Handled like he had flat tyres so put a bit of air in to make no appreciable difference.

Front preload is only 2 clicks but graunchy sound and limp pogo feel tells a sad story. Now I have him all back together I realise that the back shock is even worse than Baz's so I may as well have stuck the Ducati Monster shock in while I had the air box & battery box out Doh!

Have some work ahead of me getting him half sorted. Will chuck Baz's forks together with an extra inch of spacers and 20w fork oil and put them and the Showa shock onto him.

The air filter looked every bit like it hadn't been done in the 9 yrs that the PO had him. (Nor the carbs and valves I expect). It runs like it's powered by a 250:sick:.

I Will have to do a compression test but suspect that might be a bit misleading without checking valve clearances (not done that on a 16 valve motor so will read up)....... Whatchu think?

Aside from all the negatives. It feels good to have more than two bikes in the garage

I did bring my compression tester and plug wrench.... can bring it over and actually use it if you want this time:rofl:
At least it is a complete bike. Better start than incomplete eh?
I 'recon clean out the carbs, your now a bit of an expert at that Mr Croc. Fresh fuel, clean air filters, clean plugs and then fire it up. The engine was not noisy, that's a good start.
You wanna replace that big arse headlight too. I can find a home for it.

Keep Dodgy away from that headlight Croc. Glue his hands in his pockets whenever he comes around.

Lol. He ain't the one to worry about.

I just wound the ducati shock all the way in (based on the theory that it will be easier to wind back out than in, should I find I need to) plus I'm a seriously fat bastard.

I will have to get may ass into gear and get it installed along with getting Baz's forks ready to swap. (I pulled them apart) Hopefully new/old rear shock, fork seals and an extra inch of spacer in 20w oil will make a Big difference.

When he's on the side stand he's almost straight up and down.
If his seat was any closer to the ground he'd be a skate board.

What's happening to Baz? Off to the Croc wreckers yard? Seems like you're thieving of him left right and centre!!

Baz is going to benefit as the parts he gives will be upgraded. I'd like to put later model front and rear end, brakes an all on him and maybe modify him a tad and get his motor sorted properly (maybe even big bore & carbs). Baz is gonna be a proper period subtly bastardized bad boy...or something.

The new boy is only going to get the bare minimum to get his handling and running sorted to an average standard. He is all there so deserves that much, but he's as rough as in the appearance department. No plans to spruce him up... unless he gets even more roughly assaulted by pack of mat black spray bombs
