General Bike Ravings

Biker culture, politics and general issues.

  1. Merry Christmas. happy New Year, Let the rubber hit the track & ride without a care.

Tomorrow is the first round of the King of Kaitoke and I can't wait. For me it's like being a kid on Christmas Eve and being unable to sleep cause your too exited.

I am going back to B Grade as I am not fast enough for A Grade. This should also working in favour for winning both B grade and King of Kaitoke as I am running 5 second quicker laps and am on a much faster bike.

    From the people who were in B grade last year;
Caleb would have been the toughest to race ...
  2. 2010 Christmas Tour

As Toto and I did last year in 2009, we decided to do a little tour again this year. After a fantastic experience at Wanganui, we knew it would be on the list again. The tour follows a basic format. Leave Christmas Day, in Wanganui for Boxing Day, and then spend a few days covering some of the country. Last year was 1 day to Mahia (just south of Gisborne) and then a 2nd day back to Auckland via the East Cape, so only 4 days in total.

This year, we would aim for a week, so within a ...
  3. 2011-01-13 Thursday - BOP/Waikato

What a week it's been, no sooner had I finished writing up the tales of my fishing exploits from yesterday, than the phone rings, and it's Ron. He was all interested to know if I was keen to go for a small motorcycle excursion, and maybe stop for a coffee somewhere. Destination as yet undecided.

I argued with him for a little while, because I really don't like that sort of thing, but eventually after giving it a moment's thought I agreed. "Meet you at BP at 10:00 tomorrow." Ron ...
  4. Performance Pipes for Daytona 675 - Thoughts?

Hi everyone - I'm looking for peoples views on the best sounding/looking pipe for a Triumph Daytona 675 (09). I'm pretty taken with the Jardine RT-1 (carbon). Are there any thoughts on the Jardine or, 'better' alternatives...views would be most welcome! Thanks.

  6. Finally succeeded in fixing something! (05/01/2011)

Yeup… you read that right. I had an electrical issue with my bike, and basically fixed it myself. This might not sound like a very dramatic thing to believe… so perhaps I should entertain readers with a bit of history.

Back in 2007 I owned a 2004 ZX10R, and decided I wanted to mount a radar detector. Having seen others say it was easy, wire it to the battery and then flatten the bike, I knew I was going to be smarter than that. Running the power cable back towards the battery, I realise ...
  7. A Wee Pootle to Finish the Year

Christmas this year, as it turned out, was a time to ride…and what a great way to finish the year!

The Maori Tennis tournament is held in Hamilton between Christmas and New Year and last year I didn’t go because I needed to paint the house, but this year I needed to do my duty and support Ann by taking her to this event….not because I love Tennis, but, it is in the Waikato.

After a cruisy Christmas morning, we took the opportunity to visit her parents in Moumahaki, ...
  8. Let the unpacking begin

What a rush Taupo Road racing Spectacular was this year. Managed to inprove from my 24th finish last year to 17th. Reduced my lap times (in the dry) from 1 min 44 sec laps to 1.33 laps on the first day. The second day was wet so it was wets for those who had them, which for a lot of us was the first time we had raced on them. My second day times went from plus 2 min to 1.49, much to my delight. And what battles were had with the field breaking into groups of 4-6 bikes fighting it out. I'm also starting ...
