General Bike Ravings

Biker culture, politics and general issues.

  1. Thur 7th : Gremlin by name, gremlin by nature - what's in a name?

Yet again my fine person of quality that peruses the personal volumes of memoirs that make up the stock within KiwiBiker, I bid you welcome and I hope you are well rested. I find the time to wax lyrical on my rides and I do so appreciate the time and effort that you deign to actually dabble on my diadems of biking discernment.

This day once again found me at odd sorts, I had already commenced a full day of housebound chores involving the clearance of unwanted vegetative matter from ...
  2. Wed 6th : I don't think we're in Kansas anymore TOTO!

Well, the day started quite slowly, I was mooching around the demesne as you do wondering what on earth to do with my day. I was content to putter around on the computer doing all sorts of mundane tasks such as emailing, playing online browser games, surfing KB and chatting away to people on MSN.

Up pops TOTO who is in the mood for a ride, but not with any particular destination decided upon. Of course he asks me and I blithely blurt out that a Coro loop would be just the ticket for ...
  3. Cruising Coromandel

Stellar ride today. Rode down the 25 from Coromandel to Thames and back. It was just one of those where everything came together perfectly. The sun was shinning, but it wasn't too warm under my leathers. There were cars for a while but they were really descent with letting me pass and so i got to spend most of my time cruising just me , my bike and the road. Ahhhhh....bliss!! The curves and scenery on this route are just stunning...the ocean was shimmering, people were out swimming, sunning ...
  4. Monday 4th : Failure to spend money on biking gear

Now please I ask for your forbearance and patience in regards to my musings for Monday, in hindsight, which is always perfect and wonderful, I would have done things scantly different. As those who know me, I have a predilection for being able to use any pretext, no matter how flimsy as an excuse to go ride my bike.

I am reminded of an old samurai/ronin apocryphal story where a lone samurai (I shall dispense with the ronin appellation since samurai evokes a much more epic sentiment) ...
  5. Sat 26th : Whucking off to Whanganui to meet the KB Whanau

Well it has been a wee whiles my dear reader where I have made an entry into my daily riding log.

Forgive my trespass as an itinerant mendicant of motorisation!

After the tremulous discord that is known as Christmas, the pall of the seasons festivities had passed as a dark cloud of rain upon a lovely patch of road you are riding.

Boxing day I was free to embark on anything I cared to do after the repast of leftovers was consumed at lunch. I geared up, ...

  7. Redline Track Day, Dec 17th - the novel

Originally, December 17th was the target day for Trini's Big Day Out. Unfortunately, we hadn't quite gotten things together in time so I was booked and paid up with nothing to ride. Typical. So Plan B was dusted off and I gave Paul a call. After a good chat I had a bike to ride on the day.

Tuesday, I picked up the wife from work and we headed for Jonno's. After getting some petrol and stopping at Quasi's for some gloves that a couple of others wanted I rang Jonno and said it was going ...
  8. Thursday 17th : Gremlin by name, Gremlin by nature ...

Well late last night, a certain KBer by the name of Gremlin whom I was chatting to on MSN decided to go on a bit of a night ride. He was keen as punch to take his Katoom o'doom, with the name of Katey around the Coro with me at night!

It was a marriage of convenience. I had +90% bulbs that I wanted to road test, and he had a hankering to make up for some lost riding time on his languishing KTM.

As I waited for this esteemed rider of some renown to turn up, I contented ...
