  2. A wee ride to some parts of my backyard I haven't got around to yet!

Well up at the crack of sparrow's fart and due to the late natter I had with the redoubtable gremlin (1.30am :slap

I was meant to be up at 6am, but got out around 8am ... rode around the back blocks of Papakura to get to some roads I haven't been down ... basically any road I hadn't yet managed to go down I followed!

Usual goat tracks with gravel galore on apex lines, but usual NZ stuff. Got somehow from the Hunuas to the back of SH22 and decided to take a look around ...
  3. Radiator protector

Today saw me making a radiator protector for my baby. I contemplated purchasing the custom made mesh from either ripco or supercheap ($79.99), however each option was far too expensive and far more material than I needed.

I had read on a forum here that the Wharehouse had mesh bins ($9.99) and that they served the purpose. So ever the tight arse, I purchased said black bin then went about fashioning a custom radiator protector. One coffee and two ciggis later I stepped back ...

  4. West Coast Road (North of Auckland)

I was keen to go for a ride today, but alas my normal riding companions all had something on.

So I checked out kiwibiker, and saw there was a normal Sunday ride starting just north of Auckland from the Caltex on SH16.
I'm always a bit cautious about riding with new people, as I'm a bit risk adverse when riding. If someone wants some fun I'd rather they take off ahead, and I'll catch up in my own good time.

So I headed over and met up with yachtie10 and outforaduck. ...

  6. Confessions of a 40 year old racer #5

    VMCC ROUND 4
Well another round behind us, VMCC Round 3 to be precise and it just seems to be a never ending money eating business this racing lark, ya might as well be stuffing $50’s into a meat grinder especially if your crasher from way back lol.
If you want to be semi competitive a good second hand last years nationals machine might set you back around 12K to 15k then there’s the spares like levers, clipons, rims fairings, rear sets another 3k, then there’s support gear like leathers, ...
  7. At the 50 000km mark for Big Ol'Hornet

Its at this point in time, I am pausing to effect a small reflection of my zeal for two wheels of freedom. The CB919 aka 900 Hornet aka Big ol'Hornet has helped layer another patina of rose coloured experiences to my life.

I well remember the anticipation and petulant way I acted at Botany Honda, demanding from Richard that my bike shall be ready and on road for the next day!

Ah the halcyon day when I rode it down to Wellington and back for its maiden journey, a small ...
  8. My first time servicing a bike

Well I decided to take the plunge and start doing simple servicing on my bike, a Honda CBR600.

The first step was laying my hands on a service manual. This tells you what needs to be done when. The Honda manual also identified stuff by difficulty, so I've decided I'm going to start doing the basic stuff, and only use a bike mechanic for those difficult jobs, or those jobs requiring expensive specialist tools.

So this weekend I set about changing the oil and oil filter. ...
