yeah he black listed me on trademe one time, and all i did was ask him a normal question! weird!!! but i have been into the shop(if you can call it that0 and he was great to deal with and even let me pay direct credit cos he has no eftpos!!! who has no eftpos these days???? good luck to him.

Hmmm, I think that's the whole issue. How do you get to know someone who won't respond to polite emails? I've never been able to buy anything off him since I started riding.

Buddy I'm on my way out of used parts, new is new, no explaining required. No guarantees 10 years after the manufactures warrantee expired.
Who was the Prat the next day ??? After 19 years of retail I am getting out while my thick skin still allows me to ride by bike.

After 14 years in the automotive repair industry & a prior 10 in auto parts i fully understand you Bryce.
What all prospective clients & most business owners dont realise is that a prospective client is just that Prospective, until two parties agree that a transaction will take place.
While the prospect may want to do business, the proprietor for whatever reason has the option to excersice the right not to enter into a transaction or agreement.
This happens in real estate all the time, but woe betide a bike wrecker who trys the same approach.
As a proprietor of an extremely busy specialist repair garage, i regularly refuse to do business with people that i dont percieve to meet my three most basic requirements of a client. 1. they must have a reasonable personality, ie no anger issues or drug issues, or they simply may not be compatible with me, & they must understand the general facts of how business is done.
2. They must have a vehicle that is worth fixing & that they actually WANT fixed, what i mean by that is that if theyre going to bitch about me failing their car on a dangerous WOF item, then they will be moved on.
3. They must have reasonable means to pay, i dont mean cash, but $20 a month over two years is not gonna cut it with me.
The reason i can excercise those rights is because i, and im sure Bryce too, have work that is worthwhile & profitable absolutely coming out our ears, so why would we bother to stress ourselves out & waste valuable time on morons that dont meet even the simplest criteria.
A person who dosent meet my criteria is refered to as a $100 customer, where it almost always would work out cheaper to give them $100 & tell them to F off, rather than to involve myself in their problems, either financially or mechanically.
What many of you dont realise is that the behaviour that you describe of Bryce (and i have never met the guy although i see we do like some of the same people) is often a survival mechanisim one uses when thrown into a vat of fuckwits, i could be described similarly, & after having a breakdown in 2000 by trying to be everything to everybody, i refuse to let idiots do that to me or my family ever again.
A good client from a large company came in the other day with an immaculate car, a great attitude & an eftpos card, & got me to do some sweet work on his pride & joy while he waited & chatted, At one point he mentioned that he was surprised that one of his work colleagues had said we couldnt fix his old Holden the other week, I told him it wasnt couldnt, it was wouldnt & he fully got it.
From my point of view, why the hell would i waste half the day frustrating myself trying to get a worn out car working for a person with no money when there is six late model BMW's parked in the yard waiting to be serviced.
Good onya Bryce for having the commonsense to protect yourself, Good luck with the new venture, & write a book on this topic, God knows it wouldda saved me ten years.
