    TCSMR Sunday mornings - Autumn/Winter 2007

    The Cruisy Sunday Morning Ride.

Replacing our summer The Cruisy Wednesday Night Ride (TCWNR) until the return of Daylight Saving is a Cruisy Sunday ride to interesting places with interesting people. It's an excuse to go out and enjoy the sunday brunch lifestyle and to find pubs and cafes that we'd not normally bother with or to go back to old favourites.

Destinations previously ranged from Featherston, Martinborough, Lake Ferry, Carterton, Wellington city, Karori, Trentham, Paremata, Whitemans Valley and Paekakariki.

Groups meet at various locations like Caltex Kaiwhara, Pauatahanui Challenge, the Duck Pond and Haywards to head for the Final Assembly point at Caltex Rimutaka ("Rimutex") or any other place that the group has decided in the previous week might be a good idea, at 10:00am (As a result of this Poll), for a 10:30 departure.

Please Note: This ride is arranged in order to provide a local social riding event for the local KB riders which includes the smaller CC bikes and those who generally prefer slower paced rides.

This event works well by having the group remain as a group when in transit and by travelling at predominantly road legal speeds. We re-group often on these rides where the resulting chats and bike-spotting are often the best parts.

All KB riders and friends are welcome to attend this ride. However, should you struggle to slow to the group's easy going pace, we ask that you be considerate and stick with it so that it is inclusive of new and less adventurous riders.

All first timers are welcome. So feel free to tag along for an enjoyable social event.

Destination ideas are usually discussed in this forum with final determination being made by the group on the day. If we fancy a particular pub or cafe then we'll gauge numbers and can make a booking ... in which case that's where we go.

If the weather looks dodgy on any given Sunday, tune in to this thread for the group decision of go or no-go. See you there!

    Sunday 29 April 2007

The Wellington Free Ambulance Charity Run is on this Sinday and that seems a fitting way to begin the TCSMR.

As winter encroaches - we would not be interested as we need to leave home 45 to 60 mins earlier to get to the bottom of the hill and appart from the Paekakareki hill bit - the motorway gets old fast on an ancient bike.

Seriously - you/we may need to think outside the box for winter rides, there is only so much coffee you can drink from the same old places after all.

    This Sunday?

From the discussion in the Poll's thread (which should now move here) it looks like we have a plan.

The concept behind these Welly rides is that the group can decide on the day but this particualr Sunday might be a bit different for most. The plan seems to be
    - Rimutex 10am (top of hill and back?)
    - 11:00am Ambulance (Fundraising) Ride from Maidstone Park Upper Hutt
    - Finish Thorndon for BBQ and activities
    - free to roam (Makara anyone?)

    See y'all tomorrow

A few questions tonight at the party about times ....

We figure if we get to Rimutex bang on 10, there's time to get to the top of the hill and back (in the dry) and easily dawdlw along to Maidstone Park well before 11.

Seems to fit but is personal choice and a good idea if the dry weather turns up as predicted

Its turning out nice, roads look dampish but not wet so we're having a quick bite then off to Rimutex. At about 10:10 a blat up the hill and back for me I think and then off to the Ambo Ride

I looked wistfully at the group as they rode through Krackerville today... I assume they were headed to Makara/Ohariu...? I even waved but they probably freaked out a bit...

Even saw Steam headed along Petone forshore... once again I waved but... probably coz I was in my "Bike Killer Hlux"

Yeah I stay clear of Hilux drivers, they are the maddest of all, even worse than boy-racers in Subaru's. Belated wave! :spudwave:

I was on my way to pick up a bike (to be repaired for a mate)... So I was still involved in biking matters

Excellent list Ceebie, that looks like a challenge ... can we do them all between now and daylight saving restart?

I also realised that I have perhaps been a little proscriptive in the opening post about the gathering point always being Rimutex. Wasn't really thinking that through at the time but as someone pointed out in the poll thread, why does it always have to be from the same place?

I guess the answer is ... it doesn't. It's whatever good ideas the group comes up with in the preceeding week that finds general favour.

I've edited the opening post accordingly.

IMHO, the starting point should always be the same place to avoid confusion (i.e., in case I miss a post saying this week we're meeting some place else). But I think we should start at the duck pond since that is more central than Rimutex.

Yup, the Duck Pond is definately more central but I'm guessing that it's a fact of Welly Biker Life that if we don't at least start near the Takas, many will not turn up and just go get their taka-fix on their own? It also means the Rapa crew can joins us ... or us join them.
