Lowsided the CBR on the way to work this morning.
It's a tight chip seal left hander going north (outside 876 Paekakariki Rd). It is steeply cambered and I was InTheGroove and really enjoying myself. The corner is a marked 25 kmh one and I was doing about 35. This is the same corner where Glenn head-butted the car last week, same direction too.
I noticed it was wet down in that part of the valley whereas the rest was just damp. I took my usual line, tipped it in for the apex just beside the centreline, lost the front and dumped it. Bugger! Didn't feel like we came down heavy, bike slid across the road but didn't reach the armco on the outside of the corner (pretty much proving it was low-speed) I sat up straddling the yellow centre line and said a rude word.
Dammit the camber on that corner is steep! The bike was tank-down and I couldn't lift it. First driver arriving got out to help, we got it upright and BOTH of us slipped on the oily shit that must have put me down in the first place and we dropped the bloody thing on it's OTHER side. Not happy!
Damage to the bike = Finding all the previous repairs on the LH fairing ... they all fell off, bent indicator stalk, bent gear lever and lots of scratches on the plastic. THEN when we dropped it on the other side, broke the brake blade and scratched that side but didn't appear to bust anything else. That's about when Sparky Bills arrived. It's not often you can order your replacement parts while you're tidying up the road side from your bin is it (thanks again Martin).
Other damage ... holes in my Cordura (sob sob) in the left knee, elbow and hip areas. That's stuffed its waterproofing now. Hey Spittie, get out yer leather patches, needle & thread, I'll be round later. Found that it pays to be concerned where in your gear the armour pads settle and to correct them. I've been aware and mildly concerned that mine around the knees seems to settle on the inside of the knee, which didn't seem to me to be the right place for it. It wasn't. The side of my knee was exposed so that's where I banged it. I should have had the pockets adjusted when I first noticed it. The armour and extra padding in the elbow/forearm was great and even though that's where most of the impact was, I can feel nothing.
Oh yeah and Crazefox, we're going to get to do those repairs now ... lol
Me? I'm ok. Banged the side of my knee which is aching and will probably hurt some tonight. Pissed off as I was *really* enjoying the ride this morning for some reason it was one of those ones that just felt sooo good - until then.
