Agreed (somewhat) re the oppostiion which is why we help create/arm them.

Re the water... the practical approach innately appeals to me.

The NZ "Public" screwed the last election up so badly they got the Government they deserved and effectively destroyed any hope of an organised Opposition. For goodness sake people get out there and LEARN how to make MMP work for you.

Find a friendly German to explain to you how you might have to vote for a party that seems to be diametrically opposed to your personal politics to get a Coalition Government in power that creates a Political environment that empowers your political views in the macro sense, and provides the scope to enable the activation of issues based "task groups" within the scop of Parliamentary Politics to support your personal issues. You might have to "trade" a constituent MP for a Party vote. At least try and put some THOUGHT into why voting for a constituent MP and that constituent MP's party is actually a BAD idea.

ummm you will need to dumb that down a shade for NZ public and add the words "increased benefits" in there somewhere to get any chance of the plan working.

Bad enough having a bin and getting knocked cold... but as if injury wasn't enough, to have been pushed away from two hospitals and left to sit for days unattended in an A&E waiting room... that's more than insulting. It's downright despicable. To the hospitals involved in messing that up - hang your heads in shame. This man needs medical attention now.

Frosty - sorry to hear about your bin and injuries. Here's hoping you heal up soon. Hope you aren't still waiting at this point in time, that's just plain unprofessional.

    1) Jaysus, Frosty, that is a huge shame. What did you hit? Sounds like a reasonable bin. Hope you recover well.

    2) And now with that over with I can rant on about how it's not the hospital's fault. Of course the man needs medical attention now, but the fact is they've got this triage thing where the guys with axes through their skulls and heart attacks take precedence over limp wrists needing straightening. It's a shame, but hospitals only have so many beds, and those from the North Shore tend to be fairly low on the intelligence scale and harm themselves quite often.

Everybody complains about the medical system here, which makes me laugh. In Brisbane I was super-lucky to have medical insurance -- had to have a $20,000 operation in a private hospital, as the public system decided that a broken kneecap wasn't really worth spending time pinning back together, at least not for another 3 or 4 months. I can't imagine being in that amount of pain and having to walk around on crutches for 3 months longer than I already had to.

So if you had medical insurance in this situation would it make a difference? I didn't think private hospitals did A&E (except Shortland Street of course....)

Well yes people hes still sitting in the SAME FUCKING CHAIR. Thats as of 8.35 am Tuesday.

He needs to see some friendly faces so if anyone can drop in and say gidday it would certainly lift his spirits.

    Cheers

Addition: Would be nice if they had at least offered him something to eat and somewhere to go shower....surely not too much to ask for?

Suddenly the beuracracy kicked in and said he was outside the Middlemore catchment and would have to go to North Shore. So 6.30am this morning in a big white bus with flashy lights on the top off to Noreth Shore with arrival time of 7.30am.

I have just got back from North Shore where you guessed it! He is still in the A&E waiting room...12 hours later. No beds they say - Id like to no how come theres no beds when there is heaps of laundry. So it looks like he may be there for a few days.

He showed me the xrays and thats an impressive dislocation and I can understand how it would have hurt when they shoved that puppy back in place.

He also has a lovely crack . KIDDING alright he has a couple of cracked bones.

So the update is hes still waiting, waiting, waiting. And the irony is that today is a year to the day he tried to take the chain from the Taupo pits because he thought it would make a lovely necklace
I had an off on a Saturday and was sent to Thames Hospital where i was xrayed and asessed and was found to have a broken arm, broken shoulder blade and broken foot. Thames dont do surgery so was transfered to Waikato. Had to wait till Wednesday before i had an operation. And i had a bed. So poor old frosty could wait a few more days if he hasnt got a bed. Hope it all goes well Frosty.

I just rang acc what we can do is go pick him up take him to a gp who will then send him private only problem with that is that it's going to take a bit longer and now that he is in the system he might as well stay there. All though that depends how much longer they are going to be.

As a person with a chronic and ongoing medical condition that causes me to have constant contact with 'the system' don't get me started re the state of it.

I have the utmost respect for 'most' of the frontline staff but the place seems full of people that are either Timelords or have never owned a wristwatch.

One reason I left committee work with an organisation responsibile for advocating for people with my condition was the way we were getting sucked into the whole DHB / PHO world of stupid fucking meetings that do nothing except consume time and resources and nothing for the people with the condition.

We can't get GP's or doctors to work in NZ - oh bugger - I got started didn't I...

Good luck Frosty - You will need it... until you are admitted and then you will be OK...

Well I've just got off the phone to Tony and things aren't getting any better.

There's no sign of anything happening, he's in pain and to make matters worse, Middlemore hospital could have done the operation yesterday but the hospital he's at have no vacancies at all. The doctors are pulling their hair out about it but they're bound to adhere to bureaucratic process.

He was supposed to start his new job yesterday. That's now at risk because of all this. I've rung his work to try and smooth things over but they didn't sound too happy.

I'm feeling bloody useless down here, but as he said, what could I do from up there anyway?

Not happy with the hospital system at the moment.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

???? Even 12 hours is UNacceptable. Media. Now.
Flippant - yes - but a good analogy of the hospital 'system' we now have....
