thats not a honda the triumph doesn't have a pillion seat unless you enjoy a tight squeeze

no but its a pretty good price - i've heard those engines handle a lot of kms without too many issues and i think most people have been put off this one cos of the high kms and the locality, just a pain i cant actually test ride the sucker!

Could always make it a Friday trip Yod, test ride on the saturday, stay here the night, heaps of space, and go back to Palmy on the Sunday. Awesome price for an RF.... i live here but have not seen it around

actually the Rz is suprising comfy but not for a long trip .. but then I have not had the opportunity to compare it with the trumpy ................. yet ..................

I thought having exactly 500 miles as I arrived home just had to be a good omen!

Well, as reported, I needed to get 500 miles done before my first service. Triumph are very adamant about this for warranty purposes. And rightly so, they need to be sure all is done correctly so as to prevent future problems. I can live with this

So, a quick estimation of distance bought me to the conclusion that Waiouru
and back would just about do the trick, and after checking the aviation weather site (which reminds me, if anyone would like me to show you how to log on and interpret the data, let me know. It's up to the minute reports and forecasts, much more accurate than most other sources - mostly) it looked like east and south were out so Waiouru it was.

I thought I'd go via Vinegar Hill, just to add to the interest, keep off SH1, and also, it's highly recommended not to run the engine at constant speeds for too long while running in.

I finally got it together about 1130 and got on the road. My gear was still a bit damp from the night before, but luckily I had spare gloves so this wasn't a problem.

I headed to Feilding for fuel and a pie - and a latte of course On the way out, Vinegar Hill looked really bad, but further west looked pretty good.

So I headed out through Halcombe, such a good road this, and ended up on SH1, which wasn't what I really wanted due to the ever lurking danger.

Riding SH's can always be a bit risky, and nowhere near the fun of the back roads, but I had a pretty clear run to Mangaweka for a quick stop and a pic.

Another straightforward cruise to Taihape, and it was good to see so many admiring looks and comments on the bike

Just out of Taihape, I was overtaken by a boy racer in a little Nissan. We had a bit of fun all the way to Waiouru, but he had the advantage as I couldn't and wouldn't go above 6000 rpm.

It was getting pretty wet by the time I arrived and I was amused to see my tyres steaming in the puddles outside the pie shop

I reckon these Bridgestones are a damn good tyre so far. I've now done about 200 miles in the wet and they have been rock solid!

Anyway, I was immediately befriended by a real cute little cat who quickly persuaded me to share Cowboyz's pie - sorry Lance It was a bit dry anyway

I was feeling a bit shagged by this time and then it started to rain. And get colder.

Just then, a little kid told me what a nice bike I had, so that made me feel better.

So, back on the road southbound. Another stop at Taihape, and I was really starting to feel like a travelling vagabond. A quick coffee did the trick.

I decided to take the scenic route, so headed out down the twisty back road to Mangaweka. This is a great road, realy scenic, and plenty of good corners, but today it was wet and horrible, but still spectacular. I just meandered along enjoying giving the bike a workout, and was feeling really pleased that she was getting exactly what Triumph wanted. I'm still very much getting used to her, especially in wet shitty conditions, and I can't wait for the run in to progress further.

I got to Mangaweka and headed down to Vinegar Hill. The weather wasn't too bad out of the hills and it looked average once I got to the turnoff. So a quick pic and txt stop and it was into the hill. It was almost dark by this point, but that was Ok. As mentioned the headlights are bloody good, but I was VERY mindful of debris on the road, and took it easy.

Nowhere near as fun as the last time on this great piece of road, but never mind

Got to the end without incident, and headed home.

The engine is sounding really good now, the whole bike is coming together very well, clutch and gearbox are working smoothly, and that engine noise under acceleration is awesome. And that's still only up to 6000. She needs another 100 miles before she can go to 7000, and I'm certainly looking forward to hearing that! It's really good cruising along at 4000 or so and giving the throttle a quick twist, the entire thing just changes, giving out a rich deep bark and surging forward very positively.

I test rode a 04 gixxer thou a couple of months back, and doing the same thing gave out an instant punch, the Daytona is way smoother, if less instantaneous.

It will be interesting to explore the higher rpm regime and see what sort of response it gives under heavy throttle - cant wait

It will also be good to be able to use engine braking more effectively, and also to not have to change up so often.

I'm talking twisties here as it's distracting to have to change up, then back down for the next corner rather than just leave it in the lower gear. And the noise reverberating off those valley walls is just stunning

So, I made it home and guess what. The 500th mile appeared as I turned down my street - nice one
