    Lazy parking wardens

I just got a ticket for $200 for the offence "using a vehicle while not displaying a current license label in the manner required" while parked in the Grey St bike park today.

The thing is my license label's stuck to my swingarm and is pretty easily visible by anyone who spends more than a second looking for it. I've had it stuck in that location for years with no trouble. It just annoys me that I've now got to waste my time sending a letter in to the council to get them to drop it when the ticket never should have been issued in the first place.

    Raah.

Is it legal to display there or have you just got away with it for years?

I'm bringing a bike over from Aus in August and haven't a clue what's required in Nz. Aus is under the licence plate or off the rear subframe/cowling area, but has to be in a plastic holder.

Most sprots bike posers keep there warrant and rego under the pillion seat, displaying one lowers your credibility as a fast road rider.

I bought a brand new bike and thats where the sticker was. LTSA people when I re registered it said, here's a sticker so you can stick it to your swingarm.

I think therefore it IS lawful to display the thing there. My WOF is bolted to the pillion footpeg as well.

interested to see if anyone can be bothered reading the LT regs: I can't at this time of night.....

    This may hurt:

Display of licences (other than trade licences)

(1)This clause applies to licences to use motor vehicles but does not apply to trade licences.

(2)A licence issued for a vehicle shall be displayed as follows:

[(a)If the vehicle is a motor cycle, moped, tractor, or trailer, the licence must be affixed—

(i)To the registration plate on the right-hand side; or

(ii)To the vehicle, immediately below or as close as is practicable to the registration plate:]

I once saw a parking warden get ready to give me a ticket for parking on a footpath, but ran up and said don't worry i'm moving it... she said "ok you're lucky... this time". I moved my bike and reversed it right up against a wall (at and angle) so she couldn't get anywhere near the back of the bike to read the numberplate and went off and watched her from a pub for the next 15 minutes. Was hilarious...

Wellington City Council gave me a ticket recently for failing to pay & display, $40. I have only been into their jurisdiction twice this year during the week, the day I got raped by WCC I can clearly remember paying & displaying. I had arrived early for a job interview, one of those occasions that tend to stick out in your memory. It's legalised bloody theft, lazy pricks playing us for numbers, in a game of numbers. I can't afford the time to fight them in this pathetic game, they win this round.

The requirement to display your WOF and Rego has been around a very long time and people cant expect much sympathy if they get a ticket for not doing so. Parking wardens in particular love this one.

In Mr Melons case it would seem the items are pretty clear to anyone who made a little effort to look so good luck with the letter mate, give 'em heaps.

Had the same thing happen to me. I filled out the form, attached a photo of the rego and got off the fine. Now I keep a copy of the form and photo in case I need it again. Just change the date and send in another copy.
