MD, you're obviously very happy with your bike but is there anything you don't like about it? Also have you a passenger yet and if so how have they found seating? I haven't seen too much written on passenger accomodation though I would imagine it to be typical BMW - perfect.

Just never ask a F800 owner to top up their water OK. BMW's Designers were high on some bad shit that day.
Pillions love it. My daughters have always enjoyed rides as Kids up and down our street but one ride on this bike and they loved it. Being Kids they don't know anything about bikes, all they know is they feel so much better and safer on the 800. So now they ask for rides more often and want to go further a field. In fact yesterday I took my 10 y.o. for her longest ride into the city and around the bays. It has really good grab rails and peg positions. Roomy comfy seat with that raised hump between the rider and passenger that works well.
I am sounding biased aren't I. There are times, not many, when I wish for heaps of horse power but only for a moment. As it is, it is an ideal balance between it's handling and it's power. If you gave it another 20 horses or more then the suspension would need a full overall - in which case, why the hell wouldn't you just buy a 130, 150, or 170+ hp sportsbike in the first place if that's what you want, what you really really want...
I must get some knee down pictures to show just how well this thing corners.

If all you've got to complain about is topping up the water (presumably the water bottle not the radiator) then all is sweet.

I know what you mean about the power, going from the ZZR1100 to the BMW GS I missed the power for a while, now I couldn't give a toss.

Good to hear the pillion perch is good. It's a must for me.

Time to book a test ride for Saturday.

Well I managed a test ride today on a F800S and really have to echo everything MD has said about them. Fantastic bike, absolutey confidence inspiring. Handling is brilliant, no fighting with the bars to get the thing to turn; it just does it. Love the sound in the higher revs, love the looks and yes it has character.

    I believe I want one.

Got another test ride sorted for next weekend with Mrs S. If she's happy and I can justify $19k on a bike then why not.

Is there a version that doesnt have the fairing?
A fully naked one? More like the stunt bike CP rides?
Or has an owner modded it like that that anyone knows of?

There are rumours of a F800R, nothing confirmed.

As far as the S is concerned I wouldn't really want to do 600km+ days two up, 300km days would be ok as long as it's no more than 2-3 days in a row. Solo wouldn't be a problem. Having said that I very very nearly bought one.

Mr S, you very very nearly made the right choice. I can't imagine any bike would be fun for a passenger doing 600km+ in a day. Yuck, why would you want too? If you are going that distance, buy your own bike and really enjoy yourself!
From the owners forum the word is BMW have confirmed that there will NOT be a R model.
Some said earlier that the F800 was overpriced. I thought the same at the time ,but now consider it a good deal when you look at other similar cc bikes; Guzzi 750 Breva twin $22k & GSXR 750 $18.9k

Sorry to add yet another bit of useless BMW information.
This whole BMW ownership thing is starting to amuse me. What company keeps sending out free upgrades? First I got the enhanced belt pulley and the option to have some clutch washers changed.
Today the shop tell me there were some dud spark plugs fitted about the time my bike was made, so can I bring it in for free replacements! Get out of here? My bike is running flawlessly, but hey new plugs for nothing. That's the sort of price I like.
I've just got to convince them that my tyres are faulty because the tread is falling off somehow.

That's just sad man. If it was a relationship I'd be complaining about being smothered. Next thing you know they'll be expecting a commitment. Aprilia on the other hand manage to treat me with absolute disdain and disrespect. Just like I'd expect to be treated by a supermodel. Treat me mean and keep me keen I 'spose. Mother*&%#$&'s. Do you think the pricks would answer e-mails?
N.B. I have no problem at all with the local dealership. I bet they have some interesting things to say about dealing with Aprilia though.
