So looking forward to being mobile once again. With and without bike!
Going for an expedition soon, when I tried that yesterday it knocked me out for the rest of the day so I'm hoping that won't happen today!

"Not one day that we are here on this earth has been promised to us, so make the most of every day as if it was your last, and every breath ,as if it were the same"
Malcolm at Econohonda has come up with this:
set of used discs (2xfr, 1xrr) that have good usable life still in them - $300
set of brake pads (3x) for $120
Clutch lever $21
Tail light lense $70
Fork seals $11 each
so I'm thinking it's possibly a goer (I wouldnt bother with the tail light lense tho, sod that for $70) - so if I did, the bike would then owe me around $2200
so, given that I can advertise it as having all it's discs, pads and fork seals done and a new rear tyre, I could possibly sell it for $2k.....
thoughts/opinions anyone? reckon I'm dreaming? not worth spending it? think i'll probably wanna keep it once it's tidied up? (yeah probably)
dont be shy, be honest....

You lose the bet then, because I only get it back this afternoon.
Wouldnt have been able to ride before yesterday pm either as thats when I picked up new helmet, gloves and jacket- not to mention paying the bills so as to get bike back.
Not sure how I will go, not so keen on testing meself out in 200km/h winds on wet shitty roads on a friday afternoon in the school holidays, y'know what I mean?

Yeah, you want to keep it- it'll be fresher'n a fresh thing after all that. Besides, as my wife says- "its fast because its red". You cant argue with that sort of logic

looks ok cheak price wise I guess the price for the clutch leaver is for a new one not a second hand one.....if you swing by manawatu motorcycles on Andrew young street he has new clutch leavers for about $19
But at the end of the day how much would you loose if you sold her as is?
Be honest you say? Well here is my thoughts on it. Get ready to either do one of the following.
1. ignore me all together.
2. get offended
3. take my advice for what it is worth (it is free btw)
My thoughts.
What is a 1986 unwarrentable bike worth? Probably about $3-400 IF you can find someone with the same bike or a passion for them and wants one in the shed as parts or a do upper. (And that is a BIG IF)
What is a 1986 vfr 400 that has had a heap of work done and registered and warrented worth? Probably about 1700-2000 to virtually anyone who is looking at jumping on a 400.
So for spending $500 on the bike you increase its value but 14-1600 and increase its appeal to the market.
If you are going to consider purchase price and maintance in the equation then you must also work out an hourly rate for enjoyment you have had out of the bike. What has it been worth to you to have a bike to ride? Only you can answer this question.
Then begs the question whether or not you should keep it.
Answer is always no. At the end of the day you have a far superior bike sitting right next to it and riding the 400 is going to teach you nothing about how to ride the 900. If your wife wants to ride then it may be worth keeping it for that has a replacement bike for her is going to cost more than repair and sale of the 400 and it will keep her off the 900. If she doesnt want to ride it then there isn't alot of point in keeping it. Let the bike leave in grace and as a memory of a fantastic ride. The more you ride the 900 the less you will be inclined to ride the 400. Power is addictive.
So my advice.. let the 400 be. Do it up, plenty of help on offer around these parts and remember it for what it was and then get out and start making some new memories on the 900.
Best place to stay in Hawkes Bay here
