Interesting indeed Ryan,If you had been around in the late 70s and early 80s youd probably take that a little more seriously,Machinery such as the "black pipe 1100" or the "wirewheel Katanas" that were found only in such exotic countries like NZ spring too mind and had different engine internals to the rest of the world.Still one would think weve moved on from there ???

Getting back too the subject I agree the the guys here and have questioned a number of MNZ/ACU officils over the years as to why we have such hard too police rules,Why not make it easy for everyone and make engine internals optional but the machine must retain the original airbox and filter,Carbs/throttle bodies and headers with an MNZ approved slip on muffler.I mean at the end of the day the trick too making horsepower is too get as much fuel in and out of the cylinder as quickly as possible (very crude explanation but you get my point) and if thats restricted at both ends then what happens in the middle is reduced and so much easier to police.Maybe someone should approach MNZ with that ???

I'm kinda relieved the bank wouldn't lend me the cash for the 4th Suzook now.

Talking with a certain top mechanic about the new rules, he explained that it will in fact cost more to build a decent engine.
Because of certain restrictions the best way to stay within the rules is to buy several of each part and measure all to get the best. So instead of being able to simply buy an aftermarket item they'll now spend more trying to find the perfect stock one................if ya get my drift.

    Bring on the Prod SBK...................

Be a waste putting cams in for just one year. Maybe Honda knew something Choppa didn't back then. Conspiracy theorists field day here.

BTW Gareth told me the Honda's were missles. I could see for myself they weren't and so could anyone else in the stands.

This is the core issue behind low Superbike numbers and it's just being ignored.
exactly - I for one would not spend $50k (either brands, or $90k? for a proper one) - how they can call 6-8 laps a race is beyond me, should be min. 12 at least, cams or no cams

I'll be sticking to track days until my wallet can afford otherwise

Turn on, Tune in, Drop out.

I think anything sensible will be communicated to Choppa though other channels.

There actually really, REALLY not Frosty. Its amazing how far off 'right' most parts are in a current Jap motor. Gearboxes are nowhere near, and you are very lucky indeed to get a bike where all the parts work together to make the best power possible. This rule in the end is going to make very, very little difference. I havn't got a superbike not becuase I don't want to buy cams, but because I don't want to halve my track time over winter, or pay the extra money for slicks. I see what MNZ is trying to do, but I don't agree that this is the right way to do it. Cams are not the major, or even really significant cost of building a motor.

Well if you don't want half the track time over winter race in the SI! They only run a F1/F2 class so everyone gets the same amount

I have sent an email expressing my concerns and asking for a couple of explanations and clarifications to the powers that be.

I'll be interested to see if we actually get a reply.
Vote David Bain for MNZ president
