He used to be (as did I) but he's been in 125s for a few years now and is currently 18 (born 28 Nov 1990). Mind you he still looks 15.

He's been one of the fast boys in qualifying for a while, with several poles, but this is his first race win. Good on him.

"Used to" is a very apt description in this case coz in 92 Doohan and the big bang honda were kicking everyones butt.Maybe this is one way to explain Stoner being the only one to tame the Ducati to date.

When Mick first arrived on the GP scene noted scribes described him as "dead by june Doohan" coz he crashed his brains out (sound familiar?)So much so that Mick admitted that he did'nt want to get up in the morning as he had to get on the then wayward NSR.
Until Honda built the bike around him and his unique style...more frontend weight and bigbang to control the power etc.He was then untouchable, even causing Rainey to hurt himself trying to keep in touch.

Maybe Casey and the Ducati being designed around his style and talent are just such an unbeatable combo???

As the 800cc Honda was designed around Pedrosa (just ask Hayden).
Having seen what Stoner can do on a Ducati that is unable to be tamed by others, I'd like to see him on a Yamaha or Honda. At his age, there is no doubt we will at some point in the future.

There was a rumour that Doohan got bored with the big bang engine in his last season and had Honda tune it as a "screamer" to give him a challenge (God knows the other riders weren't challenging him).

Yes Oscar, I read at the time Doohan preferred the "Screamer" and that others found it harder to ride. Similar situation to Stoner and the Duc really ?
The screamer had advantages if you were good enough to use it, of which, Doohan certainly was.
On the 'fastest debate, I'm reading 100 years of the TT at present. Hailwood , now there was a talent.
(I had the pleasure of getting pissed with him once, what an honour lol).Gaz.

I pissed off Biaggi once, but I don't think that's a very exclusive club.

I heard Melandri grumbling about this last year in an interview. I don't know what he expected Ducati to do. "Design your bike around me and I will finish 15th instead of 16th!"

Not really - I was given a tour of the Yamaha pit in Aussie a few years back and I walked between Max and the monitor he was staring at.
My friend was Abe's Crew Chief, and had earned the ire of Max for some reason. Max was watching 250 qualifying whilst his manager signed Max's autograph on Marlborough Hats.

What's with this myth that the Duc was designed for Stoner?

As I understand it the longer carbon swingarm for this year is the first time they've done something specifically for Stoner (to help tame the bike down ironically).

Well it does seem to suit him.

As I recall, Melandri at Phillip Island last year said that he was unhappy that Ducati had been unwilling to change the bike to suit him. Mind you: a) he would say that near the end of such an unsuccessful season; b) that's not quite the same as saying the bike was designed for Stoner.

Melandri? Very much a conundrum and what you say may have a point.

On the Ducati he was SHIT.

Now, on a botched up Kawasaki (Which was a piece of shit, no matter who rode it, in spite of the factory backing it had up till this year.) he gets some stunning results?????

It's the sort of stuff that makes MotoGP soooooo interesting.
It's OK to disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.

I wonder if the standardised rubber has moved things a bit closer for the Green meanies ?
