Interesting to read this. Just bought a bike this week and signed up with Vero as this was recommended by Pete at WMCC.

However, while I was riding my Triumph Tiger I was insured by Protecta and after having written off my bike, they paid out what I paid for the bike although I used it for 9 months. They paid out in a very short time without any drama. I paid $72/month for a $16,000 value bike. Am now paying the same for a higher value bike.

Just hope they are as good as Protecta when it counts

I've heard some bad things about State, but I've only had to test them once and the results were good. They took a while to get the assessment done, but once they figured out the bike was fucked they paid me out promptly. RIP silver CBR

A few days later I called back to arrange cover on the replacement, and I was pleasantly informed that there would be no change in policy - same premium, excess etc etc. Nice

I've just done mine with these guys too - they are like 50% cheaper than all the others and also their excess is lower.

It's funny. You hear all these good things about Kiwibike but I had an absolute nightmare with them!! I'm glad to be rid of them. I shifted to Vero (through David Golightly) and my premium is less than half what it was, with my excess a quarter of what it was through Kiwibike.

    What I don't get...and I have pondered this for a time.

An insurance company pays out current values of the bike, (not new values in most cases) As the bike ages, the value drops. If premium to payout ratio remains constant premium should remain constant and not increase.

Inflation is not affecting the value of the bike; ie it is not increasing, so IMO premium increases are nothing but a ripoff.

House insurance is a little different where the value of a property generally appreciates

I guess we all have different experiences with insurance companies, but I've found NAC (IAG) to be fantastic!
Now they even cover up to $2500 worth of gear with my bike, so no need for a seperate claim.
