i think there were some major suspention and frame changes after 2005, plus after the 06's i think they introduced the dual ignition maping

shit, that sounds real flash. So were they poo as before 07 or just the same as all the other brands? I need to find a site that compares bike of the same year, like tests and stuff..

dont start planning what type of bike your gonna get before you can actually buy it...

if what yor asking is weather the trade between your kx and that 04 250sx is a good deal, probably yes if its in good nick

if your planning on selling your bike and spending 4.5 like you said earlyer i wouldnt go for a ktm, as your not gona be able to afford 07+ and your could get a much later model better bike such as a yz or rm for that price

Matt if you go for the YZ try to get '06 and newer. The '05 forks were piles of doo doo and the earlier ones are even older technology. Improvements to the suspension from '06 on up are worth paying the extra for.

The RM steel frame does not rust that I have noticed and you only see a little of the frame down by your boots, and its the best handling bike out there so who cares if its steel, aluminum is just marketing hype in my opinion. The engine is very YZ like from '04 up, clutchs are a weak point on the RM though in stock configuration. Head shake is not a problem with the correct setup, I've never experienced it (I do run a damper on all my bikes but not to cure headshake).

Not sure what you might get for $4500.00 but you need to factor in heavier springs for your size, and perhaps a pipe and flywheel weight if you want to ride in the bush, and if you ride in tight bush first gear tends to be too tall on MX bikes so that results in more clutch abuse.
If you can find one at a good price get a KTM EXC and just spring it to suit you, might be the best option if your trailriding, but I don't recall reading what sort of riding you intend to do.

Either the YZ or the RM would be my picks out of the MX bikes for your budget, personally there are too many things I don't like about the CR or the KX but its up to you to do the research for yourself.

Twice the displacement, twice the cost and a decibel problem, I'll pass on the inside brraaaap!!!

thanks for the danger, I have been thinking about factoring in suspension as soon as I get it.. I'll hopefully be doing mostly mx with it, and a little trail/cross country. I really love the agressivness of my mx bike, so I think I'll stay with mx bikes, have to be able to thrash my mates round kimmys too and if I get an enduro bike dad might want to ride it more often!!
