Hi all,
New adventure rider here. Done heaps of VMX since arriving in NZ 3 years ago but criminally only used my DR650 to get to work and back for the last 18months, until last monday! went into the karapoti track from the akatarawa road entrance to the mungys and rode through to the pram side then home to Waikanae. Passed through snow and 4 rivers with my new biker mate on his KLR250. Both on road tyres(trail wings)- fun on the wet clay! we didnt even lower the pressures - Dumb! but fun! No spills though - more luck than judgement I think.
Anyway, will keep checking the forum now and meet up to see the apparently excellent views at Toppys! and head out for a ride with you guys.
Shame I only just spotted this now as didnt do much today and a ride would have been sweet!

that ride in to the hut is normaly a easy trip.
with recent weather id say there been a couple floods in there, up set the river crossings a bit.
its not a place ya want to get stuck in if the weather turns on ya.
which is why i said to dave you chaps better get a rattle on if ya going in there.
hope ya enjoyed your self and no damage to ya bike.

It was brutally awesome. Some hairy moments but they just added to the feel alive flavour. Had to christen the Dakar sooner or later and Dave's DRsubmarine antics were worth the price of admission alone
Good on ya guys. I'll have to get back down there soon for another look-see at that hill. Oh, and Toppy's.
You may be able to straighten your lever in the vice, if you're real careful. I've given up worrying about my levers. Broken that many that I leave them as 2 finger jobs now.
Sweet photos Junkmanjoe!
cant wait to get my DR muddy again now!
Next weekend?
Yeah well done mate, the Dakar is well and truly christened and you are now well and truly out there adv riding!!!!
I had a blast out there with you today - will look forward to the next time! Your offroad skills are better than mine mate! And once you've done a few of these gnarly tracks I reckon you'll be brimming with confidence in your Dakar, altho after today you should be already!

Cheers, Dave
Sure am glad I let you guys talk me out of taking the R100RS in there!
It just isn't a ride for you Dave, unless you eat some dirt - literally!
Still not raining in Wellington, yet.

Sh*t doesn't just "happen". There is always an a*sehole involved.
