So what do you get for your $285 per day?
So what do you get for your $285 per day?
I understand some would be concerned with that, but everyones focus is different. Iwork 9 x 12 hour days plus OT at altitude, driving and concentrating on data most of the time...ie, I stay pretty focuse for a long time. I enjoy riding, I relax when riding, I sleep really well after a good ride and wake refreshed....I am really looking forward to this.....
I am already in saving and training by taking appropriate photos......(Translation, to Vladivostok)
Entry fee does include "Quality Motel Accommodation" so it says on the website.
The Rustys put on a good feed and few drinks at the end of their rides. Not sure if that becomes a daily inclusion on a 10 day ride though.....

I had intended doing this ride, until I saw the entry fee. For that money I now intend shipping my bike to Aussie and doing 10K in 10 days, then another 6K in 30 days and touring the entire circumference of Australia in less than 6 weeks.
The 10 K part will be Adelaide (or close to) to Darwin via Perth.
Time to ride
Jantar, I was sent this link by a friend who stumbled accross it : http://www.mt-maunganui.co.nz/OZBike%20Trip.htm
I followed his progress on line while he was doing his tour thought it was quite interesting and tucked it away for future reference (just in case I decided to do something similar).

Can't imagine there's too many good rides in those parts!!
$285 per day you say.......what about the service before and after, the 1½ tyres, the ferry fares and the gallon or two of gas required to get one around the course.
I think for your $500'ish per day, you'll get a badge, a T-shirt, a sore arse and the biggest grin ever!!

Most people would call B/S even if you did. Those of us who have an appreciation of such things would probably drift off into our own little world with that distant look in our eyes....

i like the idea but really dont think I could do it. I have done 1100k days no problem and done a couple in a row but 10?? That is a long time on the bike. I am workng my way into the GC this year though.

I have been thinking about it but my rough costings so far put it around $6k. I would want a second back up bike fuelled up and ready to roll.
If I had to commit right now I'd say my business takes too much of my time so no way but I'm putting off the decision hopefully untill things start to smooth out a bit.
The other thing I'm wondering is the pros and cons of buying a bike just for the event. Maybe an ex-rental F650 or Bandit. OTOH maybe buy a bespoke tourer and taking the mileage hit?
When do entrys close, may be able to scrape up the money, but wouldn't be sure enough to commit to it.

Quick look I couldn't see a date when entries close, but does say entries limited to the first 25.
