Seen them on Trademe. Can't find any at the moment though

Guy by the name of Derek Lane - I will hunt out his details for you. Had to get a custom towbar for the down weight but cost of rack vs. cost of trailer/parking it/WOF etc is still cheaper for me.
Mine you can't ride bike up to it but lift it into the slots. If you are in AKL you are welcome to come and have a look.
It gives me freedom - well as much as my car allows anyway

I'm highly contemplating getting one... do they all require special towbars?

There is an 03 CR85 at Hamilton motorcycles, they want 3.5k. It has been sitting there for over a year, I talked to one of the guys there when I was looking for an 85 for my wife, I think they traded it for around 2.5k, I recon you could get it for that or maybe even less. Its been hanging out there for ages. Its on their website. www.hamiltonmotorcycles.co.nz

Not really keen on spending anything over $2000 for an 03, although they did drop the price on my DRZ by about $1300...

Yeah - fortunately. Most towbars (well for cars) are used to pulling and not the pressure being pushed down directly on it. North Shore towbars put mine on and wasn't an issue. Also means that if I do tow something the tow bar is real secure and strong so no issues.
When first got the rack had to get people to help me for a start as just couldn't lift - it is about technique. I really like it.
Took the bike on the back to Tussock buster - fuel on car was ok and it didn't slow me down - I was one of the suckers that got a speeding ticket

Rack was $300-$350 ish - I think and then the tow bar was just under $500. So when compared to trailer that I wouldn't use for anything else it made sense. The "arms" come off so not always on there.
I know it ain't for everyone but is just me and gives me freedom to go out riding and saves my brother and SIL having to cart my bike around for me.

Here's his details: derek.lane@xtra.co.nz - he is real nice guy

as a benchmark, i paid $3500 for an 06 bigwheel, which looks to have done very little use, FMF pipe, FMF muffler, Vforce reeds, Pro Taper? or similar fat bars, hour meter (not on since new) race start thing on the fork, new FLU graphics kit, and in real tidy condition.

well if we consider most consecutive ama wins, which would indicate consistant best bike-ly-ness, then honda / mcgrath wins
