What'd go like? I'm waiting for Hyosung to bring out a few dirtbikes. In a few years they'll be very good & exc value for money.
Hyosung already have tried dirtbikes, RX125 and RX250. Engines are okay and that's about where it stopped. Nasty suspension, welds, soft metal everywhere, like bendy footpeg and muffler brackets, weak subframe etc.
A couple of years ago, I bought a 250 for $1000 with 250km on the clock, the last owner couldn't kick start it. Y'know, just for a laugh, a dirt hack I could trash without worrying about the cost of it. I proceeded to ride it from Ohakune to Nelson, via as many backroads as I could find.
The kickstarter case cover cracked while kicking it over, seal shat itself, but a rag in the gap stemmed the flow of oil quite well, and it always had fresh oil to preserve the life of the little gem of an engine. Got it welded up beefy and strong, the kicker worked much better. Engine was okay, not fast but power was alright, would be good for a learner anyway. The spongy suspension was the worst, the rear was just bloody awful, mind you, I'm a 95kg pork ball.
The best thing I discovered was, after a crash, the weak plastic battery holder box snapped off the frame, but it ran quite well without a battery, the headlights and indicators still worked no worries!
Incidently, I sold it for $1200, with 3000km on the clock, after spending $35 on the case weld, some better cheap handlebars, and chucked 2 used knobblies on for $20 each. Got my money back, so IMO it was worth it, for the experience more than anything. Ya can still have fun on a cheap Chinese (or Korean in this instance) shitter.
I'm really suprised the Hyosung was so shitty Crazyfrog. I thought they might have it sussed by now since they have been making great headway with their roadbikes.
Shednite tonite. Where about's is Richmond?
Went for a hoon over the Monga today, then after a pie at Rai headed to Hori bay, but took the wrong road, but had fun anyway. Eventually found the hori bay road and got there with a few diversions of course.
there is some excellent riding up there and some fantastic views (sorry no camera) It is definitely worth investigating further, and man does the road climb fast.
We are very lucky to have so many great spots so close to town.
Also tested the new tanks radiator protection. It worked a treat where with the stock set up the radiator and the shrouds woulda got a hammering. Few garks on the tank but otherwise fine.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
Went up Hira today with Shane and mates to do a bit of bush bashing/clearing work for the x-country next weekend.
The DR was a bit out of place running with a pair of XR400's, a pair of CRF250's, a XR125 and a KDX200.
I couldn't make Hurricane Hill (the firebreak to the right up Linton Hill) and a couple of others were very dodgy.
Got a bit of footage including a few of the guys trying (and failing) Mt Everest.
Started out in bright sunshine and dust and ended up in pouring rain.
An E-07 rear is not a race tyre
The re-furbished shock went well though.
Pure evil................
The firebreak off Linton Hill is a real bugger in the wet on an ADV bike.
Sticks and stones may break my bones - and there'll be plenty out there![]()
