    Very markedly...
It's the large loose rocks that spoil it.

Ooh that's a nasty lookin bit of track mate! Bit of practice makin vicious directional changes at speed ( ) on that will do ya nicely for a Cnut Hill attempt when the Norf Island Invasion Ride happens(?????) OR maybe we'll add SutherlandsHut/Cnut Hill into the SCAR2 in Feb!!!!

p.s. I'm a right nana so I wouldn't go up, let alone down that thing - fair play to you and Woody for ridin that track! It looks nasty as!!!

Bit of a thread hi-jack, but while on the subject of steep hills here's a little gem (may have posted a similar pic a year or so ago).

On a different note i'm keen for a NI invasion sometime before the new year, have a crack at this little hill of yours

It'll be knocked off WELL before they get up here mate, don't worry bout it! AndyMac will prob nip up there mid week on the new toy just to show us all up!

Failing that(!), between Bryce, Bart, Mark, & Gav all gunning to be first up it, I'd say that cnut of a hill is on borrowed time now!

Now if someone would attach a grader blade to their bike to groom the slope, those of us with 15T fronts and worn rear tyres (and pink undies LOL!) could head up too!

    Cheers, Dave

first practice session to improve my cnut riding kills is on Saturday going down and then hopefully back up the rock garden that joins the devils staircase.

If you don't hear from me again its because I couldn't get it up......

Nice.............almost got stuck down there on my DR350 a few years ago. I wouldn't recommend it in the wet. Are you going down the staircase???

I'm assuming that its too wet to go down the staircase - I didn't think the rock garden would have been affected by rain too much???? (I've never been down the staircase and only part way down/up the rock garden)

how would you compare it to cnut?

The Rock Garden and Devils Staircase are pretty much as their name suggests. Lots of short sharp drop offs. Plenty of bolders. Half way down the Rock Garden you'll be wondering what the hell you've got youself into. When you come back up, these magical little tracks will appear off to the side of the track and aid you in getting up. It's not as bad as it looks.

The Devils Staircase is papa clay instead of rocks. I would only try this in mid summer when it's real dry. I've been up a little way from the bottom, and down about half way from the top. This is on my 'to do' list.

Compared to Cnut.......the Rock Garden is a lot of short sharp technical bits, with small breathers in between. Cnut is more like 90 seconds of wind on the throttle and see what happens. No breathers. You could fluke a good run and make it.

Have a go. You'll gain more skills in half an hour of riding in that area, than you would in six months of riding to Toppies and back.

Mark I'm keen for an Akatarawa ride on Saturday, but maybe not the Rock Garden for my first weekend on the WRR. What bike were you intending to ride?
