But before you red rep me, he was riding a scooter, in jeans, a Tshirt, an open faced helmet that had the worlds biggest scrape on the side. No shoes, no socks, not even sandals. Imagine how fucked up he was going to be when the inevitable happened...

Aren't you a new rider? I think that riding any distance without protective gear is not a good idea for an inexperienced rider. Not that I yell at people that fail ATGATT, I may think a few things about them - but it is their skin, not mine at risk.

I'd be willing to bet money on that being the case. 2-3mm of cowhide versus the puny skin that we humans get from the factory?

Imagine getting your face to the road, and then sliding your nose back and forth for a moment or two on the surface... Doesn't appeal? Now try it across your whole body at 50kph, using your skin as the friction to slow yourself before hitting something solid and unfriendly...

I have scars across my back from competing in cycling and using lycra as protection, so I speak from experience....
