.....I note a fair supply of Suzi Dr 650's with big tanks in the pics. Where did you guys get the tanks?

Mine was the only DR650 there and I must assume you already know my answer.
The other bikes in attendance were one DRZ400 with a big tank, one XR650 also with a big tank.
As far as I know the other two bikes (an Africa Twin 750 and the KTM Adventure) had standard tanks.

What! I'm shocked... with a forum name like Transalper I had sort of totally assumed... you 'd be driving a...a... Transalp?!

Now I switch my brain on, I guess it's obvious from the previous thread but still... (the one full pic of the dizzy (somehow DRZ always comes out as Dizzy in my mind) just shows the Suzi name but the model. Ah! Looking closer I should have known anyway... I haven't calibrated my mind to automagical spot the the DR/DRZ differences yet.

on the subject of big tanks- i mangaged to get 306km out of mine and coasted into a petrol station about 1km from home. in hindsight i should have filled it back up so i would know how many litres i still had in reserve

Mine read 186 when we got to halswell ,I was stoked I made there!!!! Am thinking of buying a yam xt660 tenere.bit lighter than the africa,any one any experiance of them? any known problems?

I took the DRZ to the "Have a go track day" at Ruapuna on Saturday, what a blast.
There were 5 other DRZ's there and approx 80 bikes in total.
Smoked a few sports bikes in the corners but had to focus on staying out of the way on the back straight! I Did manage to clock a maximum speed of 152kmph which I thought was pretty respectable for a 400cc dirt bike (with supermoto wheels fitted)

I should have got a matching E-07 for the front and joined you with the 950. I bailed early and came home over the hill (well half the hill - did Harmans track). The 950 goes around corners on the seal like a (good) mad thing My front D606 tyre is looking a little worse for wear after just that ride back from Akaroa. I dont think I'll have to worry about the back of the middle knobs wearing out - just go for a spin on the seal and it will wear them square again I've no idea how I would have compared for speed against a road bike but it would have been interesting to find out.

There is plenty of paper roads around Canty, you might have to be a bit more specific than that. The CCC (Chch, Cheviot, Culverden) loop is a good day out.

I'm probably out of action for the rest of September with family things to do. I'm working on plans for a ride on the 3rd of October though - got to make a phone call tonight.

At I guess you're talking about the 2nd Canterbury Rides Shop Route Sheet.
I have it but it's all flat ground and long straights except a couple of small bits.
I had the video camera on their 2nd RouteSheet Ride....youtube.

Cooneyrs CCC loop is a much better day out. There's video of that on his youtube channel and threads on both rides here on KB if you look for them.
