I went to the 525 because I wanted a bike that I could ride along the road and if I saw a track or trail disappearing into the wild I'd have the ability to go and explore it even if on my own. With the XT600 and the BMW 1100 I didn't really have that option as the XT was a little heavy and lacking in suspension for rough going and the BMW was way too heavy to have fun in that enviroment. I can also trail ride or race it. Oh and have I mentioned wheelies?
Similar reasons to Andy, I can only keep one adventure bike so it has to do all things for me (compromise, compromise) and, while the 990 is a great bike, I want to be able to go anywhere by myself and the 990 is too large to safely take up tracks solo.
Middle size does it for me, with the 640 I can ride anywhere (hopefully).....
Yeah but can you do motocross??I could if I wanted to

I'll bite on the big bike/mid bike question. I've no doubt I could punt a DR650 or KTM640 faster along a gravel or dirt track than the 950. The mid sized bikes are easier to ride - braking coming into a corner is easier, powering out without stepping the back out in a massive way is easier (don't get me wrong controlled slides are good), picking it up is easier etc etc.
I think you need to look at the intended purpose of the bike. I brought the XTZ and then the 950 AdvS so I could carry my wife around the country side. Having played with mid sized bikes and bigger twins I'd definitely have a mid sized for solo riding around NZ. I'm just lucky enough that I'm big enough to pick up the 950 reasonably easily and I'm pretty happy to ride it on some reasonably challenging stuff - even if I'm not that fast. If nothing else the suspension is pure bliss compared to anything I've had prior.

Well I should a bought the 950 to start with and may not have moved. I was having to push the Tiger in a vain effort to keep up(just my nature) with the fun at the front & the suspension was taking a hammering so.......
Then there were times when Clint & Co would vear off to a side track and I couldn't follow
Will still use the Tiger for some KB Adv rides tho.

Now when selling a bike like this that has the "blingy" bits like Akrapovic exhausts etc. Do you make more money selling those bits separately or with the bike.........
(In other words Ian when you going to list the pipes for sale separately!!)

Hope so, still working on brownie points but its looking good....
You don't give up do you? Look, buy the whole thing then you will have plenty of spares and you can mix & match the panels for that "interesting" look.
Not disagreeing Oscar, but I need to feel confident taking the bike anywhere by myself. 70kgs of me doesn't pick up 200kgs of 990.
