Ok, I think now someone's really lost it (from the council that is).
When I walked up to my motorbike (which was parked correctly in one of the rare dedicated motorcycle parking bays) I saw what seemed like a parking ticket. The one's which they wind around your throttle with a rubber band. I thought: Hmmm, that's strange and had a closer look. When I read it I wasn't quite sure if it was a joke or not. It wasn't.
The friendly note, issued from "Absolutely positively Wellington" reads in short words"
PLEASE PARK WITH CONSIDERATION. THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH MOTORCYCLE PARKS IN WELLINGTON ( someone's got something right here). IF YOU HAVE TO PARK YOUR BIKE ALL DAY ITS SAFER TO PARK IT IN A PUBLIC PARKING PLACE. WE ARE IN NEGOTIATION TO GET REDUCED RATES FOR MOTORBIKES. YOUR MOTORBIKE MIGHT BE MORE SECURE THERE.
Ok, let me get this right:
- Council asks the public to be active in reducing the polution. You do your part in not using a car but a 2 wheeler.
- Council doesn't want to allow however parking on footpath , end of car parks or other spots even if you park it in consideration to others
-Therefore from November onwards parkwise is officially allowed to issue parking tickets for scooters and bikes parked WHEREVER except dedicated bike parking spots.
-Council even admits that there are not enough dedicated motorbike parking spots but refuses to create more
-if you park "all day" in one of these parking spots you're then inconsiderate. So if you're working and paying your taxes do not park your bike there?
- Next possible step: hourly parking fee for bikes?
Heeeeelllooooooooo???? Is anyone home at the council?????![]()
