Firstly - Les/Xion. Proud of your efforts. Well done.

2nd. I took part in the protest of 93 and have stuff all recollection of why? But I know it was to save my pennies and it worked. What I do remember is writing a letter to the DomPost (Evening Post back then) complaining at the abysmal and [in my eyes] deliberate lack of Police traffic support. Some ridiculous movement ran a protest the same week and Cops stood on every corner to stop traffic and let them through. But the thousands of bikes on the other hand were left to fight their way across dozens of light controlled intersections with not a cop within a 5 mile radius. I saw a few near miss accidents, which is why I wrote a letter of complaint. I swear the total absence of Cops was no coincidence. It really riled me.

The '79 meeting had a profound effect on how I thought about riding. Some guy was up talking,a riding instructor I think...and he was saying motorcycle accidents were all the fault of the rider, car and road conditions etc were not to blame,it was all the responsibility of the rider etc.He got booed and shouted down, and I was one of them. After the meeting I was ranting on about the stupid prick not helping our cause, and my wife (girlfriend then) quietly said he was right.I went off on another rage against his approach.I may be a opinionated bigot, but that doesn't mean I can't think things through and change my mind.So I changed my mind, and how I rode...definitely for the better.

I wasn't involved in the '93 protest - I was living on Waiheke Island then, transportation times and costs restricted my movements on the mainland.

Organising these things, takes a bit more care than it did 16 years ago. We have to dot i's and cross t's so we cant have the finger pointed at us.

Perhaps if you actually got involved you would have a better grasp of what is ACTUALLY involved getting something like this off the ground.

They had the same problems to over come in 93 as they do now but as TerminalAddict said there was no intertubes existing at the time to stuff around with polls for this and that a dission was made

As far as helping out i put my name forward and it feel upon deaf ears we know why that is now. And i really could not work with the look at me attitude that seems to existing.

Thats ok .... took me a minute to look at the thread where help was asked for, and you posted, and then it was accepted. Hope this helps in your plight to assist the actions that are being taken e.g I know that help is still needed in Auckland and now you know you were not ignored at all, in fact, readily accepted by Ixion and others as someone who was willing to help with the hard yards. I am sure that everyone is sorry that they did not have time to personally contact you directly and threw up a respone in a thread . But then again, its a very, in fact extremely busy time for Ixion, and the other co-ordinators have picked it up from that thread and run with the idea in their own areas.

And Sixpack - there is an obvious flaw to your thinking ... this is not about your spats with other members - I have personally been too busy dealing with inquests to buy into the BP and SPB bullshit .... its a thing of looking around and actually doing what you say you are going to do - thanks again for the red - love it when your little pointed comments and obvious hatred of others shows up on my screens.

some ppl seriously need to get over themselves, real life is far more important and the internet and peoples perception of the written word is easily taken out of context. Of course it's easy to take things ppl say at face value without finding out if there is any truth to it or not ..

Checking the reality of a situation is always more perferable that way you do not come across as a completed dickhead.

Nasty is fair to everyone .. all of us who know her very well have been infracted consistantly to the same standard as everyone else ... I have even had a wee holiday in pink .. but I knew it was deserved and accepted the responsibility of it.

    What Chancey said

It seems to me Pete's got his briefs twisted around his jewels, apparently we the BIKEOI organizers aren't putting enough energy into this project, were delaying things and over planning

All we need to do is word of mouth to a few hundred people and its gonna magically happen

    Couple of points

We are bringing THOUSANDS not hundreds of people to the Capital

The internet has made it more complex to arrange, not less (for some reason, like arguing with the Pete's over how/where/when I reckon)

In 93 ANYONE could drive onto Parliament grounds, we now need permission from the Speaker of the House and I now know for a fact it will be denied

Some people here have taken the organizers very careful approach to our legal and ethical responsibilities personally as in 'your cutting me out' this is not true, anything decided is immediately published into the publicly viewable Sticky topics on the ACC sub forum

    Nasty:
Has this week has been in the INQUEST at 111 hearings for the good of every New Zealander, and still takes time to come to the BIKEOI meeting, and make a solid contribution

She is IMPARTIAL and doesn't get personal, I know, shes family and still reds me on the rules, so yes she is impartial

Pete, I am sorry you think we are moving too slow
Sorry you have hard feelings against my cousin

You are welcome on the BIKEOI, contact Les (Ixion) and ask him what you can add to the Auckland effort
I am sure your help will be welcomed, and none of us have for one minute dragged our feet on anything, I can promise you that

    Peace,
    Brent
    Just ride.

Hay big boy do you not think this is being taken off topic and a little personal.

If they can why can't we.

    Devide We Fall

All We are saying that the longer you leave it the more riders find reasons not to go rather than reasons to go.

If Ulisses go on the 31/10/09 and
bronz go on the 17/10/09 and hog's on another date.
    and so on

Where is the impact in that

Think you will find Hog will pick up the ball and join in on the Ullyses protest Mr and Mrs Pete !
This one may end up being the bigger of the two protests, Shame, but hey ya get that ! I'll be there on the 17th to make up 1 more number, mainly due to the fact i'm racing on the 31st in taupo and can't make that one !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

I think we will gain more traction, not less with multiple rides.

The Nelson ride on Nick Smith got 500 bikes, with only a few days of organising.

It was in the paper, is on Stuff, has been on the radio, and may well make it on to the TV.

Next Saturdays ride (Ulysses) will repeat all that, hopefully with even more bikes, and better TV coverage with the beehive as a backdrop.

And the 17th will be bigger again, the motorways in Welly will be chocked with bikes, and every local and nation paper and new organisation will feature it.

This is the sort of sustained, and very visual protest that politicians hate.

Our bikes are noisy, colourful, popular with kids, for them it will be like the santa parade only better.

This is media fodder, so I say, the more, the better !
David must play fair with the other kids, even the idiots.

agreed how will they know if it is
    a) two seperate groups
or) mostly the same people who must obviously be annoyed if they come and protest twice....
