yep the petrolium is lighter than water, thats why you see the water sitting on the bottom of the lawnmower tank after the kids poor some in

I know that, but I didnt think think the volume would equate to a lighter amount etc...
So, oil and deisel is the same...
Where are these boffins to give us some figures...?
i.e. 0.15% lighter or sommit....
I wonder how much lighter it all is?

Diesel is derived from petroleum like gasoline is. Its density is 850 gms/liter whilst the density of gasoline is about 720 gms/ liter.
Water of course is 1000 gm per liter

What is heavier? A tonne of lead or a tonne of feathers?

Google is your friend. Also, a set of good kitchen scales. I measured 1L of 95RON = 736g. There's no fixed amount; different fuels have different densities... oils ain't oils.

Denser water sinks to the bottom of fuel & oil. So if you get water in your carb or sump, one trick to remove most of it is to crack open the drain plug - the water will be sitting at the plug, ie the lowest point in the system - and let the water seep out. When you get oil/fuel coming out, tighten it back up. This is a trail-side technique to de-water a bike after a dunking.
