Is there a procedure for riders wanting to join the ride while it is rolling? I'm thinking of an approach that the TEC's would control somehow...

I'm also personally reading this thread about riding in a large close bunch with interest, although the scale will be different...

And I have a 200cc Vespa I may be willing to loan to someone in desperate need of a ride. PM me if interested.

That thread has some real valid points for those that have never been riding with a large number.

There will be 2-3 TECs and they will be awear of bikes joining in, they can drop back and make room for those bikes to slot in ahead of them.

Mully and Mom will at the rear....TEC's

Depending on the number of Bikes, when we leave the start point, we will stick to a speed limit of not more than 60kph untill all bikes are on the motorway. This proceedure will occure everytime a change in direction takes place. We need to keep together and not let cars jump in and screw things up.

    Front Four
    : Maha
    : Kiwi Graham
    : Miss.L
    : Gremlin
At interchanges, will these four be stopping and able to keep cars out of the way, when the group has to do pass around to retrace direction (Silverdale overpass, etc)? Or will there be a need for some "expendibles" who will halt traffic and join back in at the tail?

Westgate and Wellesly off-ramp are probably the only two areas we could do with assistance. The HP has a link to this thread and they also have an email spelling out the exact route. I imagine they will turn up on the morning to get an idea of the size of the group. There is no way of knowing (until Saturday morning) how many bikes there will be. The registration link is only an indicator at best of how many KBers will be there.
But to answer your question Swoop, we are going to (at this stage) just have to get around as best we can. The front four will slow the pace when re-entering the Motorway (which will be three times) until all bikes are back in line. If there happens to be a huge number of bikes, then its possible that we will have assistance.

Cool. Wondered if the HP guys would be tasked to do the interchanges, as that will be a few minutes of roadblock required.
They did a superb job at the TelstraClear gathering!

If we are going to "get around as best we can", then perhaps a few sacrificial lambs may like to take this task on? (Stop traffic, rejoin at the rear)

Update from the Scary Bikers Sewing Circle!

    1) We will have merchandise for sale at the beginning of the ride - so bring some cash! Arm bands $2; pre-printed vests $25; flags $3 - $5 (size and logo dependent). We may also have other stuff for sale depending on how productive this week's working bee is...

    2) We have a large flag/banner! It's a MSTRS Special - made of Vinyl. Donno how anyone is going to fit it/carry it/use it but I will get it to Maha and/or Mully this week so they can work it all out. Should make the whole procession a bit more visible and help random passers-by work out what's going on.

FWIW von Klunken has what is pretty much an integrated flag staff holder - originally used to hold the pole thing with the red flashy light on top of it.
However my experience with flags on bikes is not a positive one.

    What??

You know this is for Heart Children, right?

I just got this image of a kid drawing a face on a basketball (like Wilson in castaway) and cuddling up to it at night.: :

If we get Mr Plod along, we should ask if we can attach it to that aerial on the back of his disco taxi.....

    Just an idea:

It may be worth taking a roll of (clear?) gaffer tape or maybe safety pins for fitting the armbands as they are pretty big! I shocked Mrs Chasio by asking her to show me how to thread her Bernette so I could reduce the size of mine

Now I find if I slip them on the sleeves before putting the jacket on, they stay in place well.

Oooh chasio you're full of handy household hints!
Yes, we will bring some safety pins for the arm bands.

Mom will slip off the end of the ride at the City after the north western leg and go to the Domain.
