If it was a voice in her head it wouldn't even be up for debate
Mostly I feel that biking's not as important as it once was and that I want to take a little break (I had an on/off relationship with sailing for about twenty years). I also want to get my business affairs into a position where if I'm out of action for three months it doesn't totally fuck over my family. In some ways the Katana 400 that Jim had would've been ideal - being not too expensive to own or insure, eminently commutable and almost completely unlikely to unleash the snarling velocity monster that lives inside me.
The decision to sell rather than "mothball" is based entirely on money and the fact that should I want another in a year or so I just can pop on trademe and pick one up. Probably. Possibly. Gahhh!!!
You guys are doing a great job of talking me out of this. Shit.

About 10 years ago I was in a similar position and sold my beloved Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mk 2. As the new owner rode her away I had a tear in my eye and the realisation that I had just made a big mistake and there have been a few occasions when I didn't wake up cursing myself for my stupidity.
You own one of the best bikes ever built (I used to sell them and have covered many 1000s of ks on them, plus my son owns one) and you may not find yourself in the position to own something that good again for a long time, so if there is a way, hang on to her and don't, whatever you do, give her away for $10k. What you could consider is doing a trade with someone who has a $4-5k bike and some savings, and wants a Street Trip. They're sought after machines and you may find you can help someone get their dream bike without having to lose buckets in going the trade in route.
I suggest you lift your reserve to $12k and suggest that you will consider trades to a certain value. That way you get some tin to help your business and keep a bike.
Don't blame me, I voted Green.
Just quite soon after Christmas. Lots of people are usually feeling the pinch around this time of year. In about a month or so I think you would see more bites at your original price.
Plus, as you already mentioned, the Wellington weather isn't doing anybody any favours of late.
Good advice.
I'd pull the ad for a few weeks and let people financially recover (and the wellington weather). If you want to list again, maybe you could incentivise by offering to ride it up country to the lucky punter.
I know if I owned my bike of choice from brand new, I'd probably only get rid of it if really financially hard up or to replace her with a newer / better one.
To have that empty space in your garage where she once sat will be hard initially.
You can always get another bike in future (as you say).
Just don't undersell her to get rid of her. When selling something - I try and position myself in the future with the money sold for to see if I feel ripped off or sold at a fair price. I personally think $10k is low for this bike and no biters is just the time of year, weather and economic recovery all combined.
