You can laugh Andy but those of us who did go down that hill sure weren't!

I hate the narration on that slideshow.
It was the first one I tried like that. And last.
I'll fix it this year. :-)
Subject to confirmation but it appears I'll have a Katoom 690 demo, that will be available to try on the CCA - and I'll ride your bike. So pump up your pre-load.
I'm busy trying to sort a lighter spring for the rear of my beast, as the standard one is too heavy for the stated 75kg target (which I'm at, wet with ATTGATT after a big feed). May not get here in time but regardless, be prepared for an under-sprung bike 'cos I'm blagging a ride on the 690 hotness.
PS how's your kicking (left) leg??![]()
Cheers,
Colin

I've ridden all of this years afternoon sections including the challenge bits on my R100GS PD, and about half of the morning section and I'll be riding the rest Friday. There are some sections where you will need to be comfortable and confident on your machine but it's all doable on a big bike.
Probably the worst I have encountered so far is a very steep downhill covered with deep chunky gravel and diagonal water channels across the track, you want to have good brakes you can trust on your bike and good balance, the PD with it's great engine braking just chugged down it in first gear, and there's a few potentially slippery grass/muddy down hills
Sections of the ride are challenging but the 800GS would be more than capable, it's down to you as a rider and your confidence on the machine. It does get down to single track in places, but big bike single trail, not 250 enduro weapon stuff. If you were only going to do the cruiser sections and skip the challenges I'd say bring the 800. I don't know what you are like on the 800 so it's your call on the trickier stuff. but any intermediate rider should be able to do it fine. I would consider myself intermediate at best, definately not expert.
And there's plenty of people to help you pick the bike up, after suitably embarrassing pictures are taken of course.

I've done it on a Tiger and a Scrambler 900 and swapped over to several purpose built ADV bikes for various sections.
I enjoyed it best on the Scrambler.
There are a few spots when you have to Bulldog a 'beast', but that just needs a bit of HTFU. Some of it is tight twisty bitumen that well compensates.
well ive been given a leave pass for the 20th,, so there just may be kodac moment to be had...as i navigate the big silver beast around the course..
entry post in the morn..
