I turboed my BMW boxer twin a few years ago, cost $1000 using a compatible car turbo, the rest went on pluming, a pump & regulator, & exhaust bends.
I figured it out & bult the conversion myself. It took aprox 80 hours & makes 9 pounds & is a bit of a hoot to ride. Its still 45 horsepower less than my standard RSV 1000.

Now, why do you want to turbocharge a busa? If you want more power just make sure the revs are up there and twist your wrist a bit more.

You can do it a lot "cheaper" if you do it all yourself.
We all need an extra 100hp
    cheers
An extra 100 Hp ? ,I would have thought a medium boost turbo on a 'Busa would have to add at least 200hp , add that to the nearly 200 it's already got and , now you're talking !

Ohh just mere extra 100HP not enough?!
By the way since when busa had 200Hp ??? iam pretty sure its around 180hp(at the crank) on a good day? Also what dreamworld are you living in to think "mild boost" adds 200HP to 1.3L engine ??? I mean thats why we are all driving all those 400HP 1.6L Toyota GT starlets around because you only need high pressure air to make horsepower, no need to worry about fuel delivery, mixture, timing, cooling, exhaust, etc....those are just details, lol

Anyway, if 100HP isnt enough i heard that Rim tape and perfomrance stickers (like Brembo, Ohlins) add another 100HP so unless you already have those on, your busa will deffinately make close to 400HPs with that magical turbo kit....

Either way good luck getting that "400HP" whale with turbo kit thru the corners on a rainy day...and dont forget to post pics of it once its completed! (try to get them before it self destructs, which it will...)

*note above post, is meant in "no hard feelings" spirit...aimed merely to discurage OP from such a retarded idea! (possibly saving his life and lots of $$$$$ while he had to sell his house recently)

I too can't understand the desire to add a charger to a bike like the 'busa. Not only does it not need the extra power, why would you want to bastardise such a nice piece of engineering?

Unless of course you are planning to add a set of wings, a tail stabiliser and are planning to jump a gorge somewhere?

whats to understand? havent you ever done anything because you want to? no reason, you just feel like doing it, like paint your bike a different color? ride over the arches on fairfield bridge, break the speed limit, enjoy the scenery? or does everything have to have a logical purpose.
You have been in a box for so long you wouldnt leave even if the door was open
(Youre not the only one so dont take it personally)

Hey Milo take a deep breath, then a glass of water...... firstly I flipped this post just for fun and , no I ain't gonna TC my pretty girl. The Gen 1 Busa's I think managed about 178 at the crank , the Gen 2 Busa ( like mine ) is good for 144kw or around 197hp at the crank . I'm told the ZX14 might have a few more ponies, would have bought one if Kawasaki were more flexible with their pricing.

It's all about fun, if you got too much power then why not add a ittle more , life's too short and PC bores the shit out of me ......

Why dont you just NOS it, i mean..you realy dont need 300+/-Hp everyday...seriously! (traffic jams, rainy days, cops everywhere...etc...)
So you just blast the NOS when you want to drag off some ferraris, Lambos, F-18 etc.... and it will probably only cost ya like $1500-2000 for the whole kit. (and if done right it will stay pretty reliable as you will only use it every now and then), also if you dont go for long distance rides too much why dont you do some -1 front & +3 rear sprocket magic...i know its not more HP on the dyno sheet but that will feel like another 40Hp right there...and iam pretty sure you will struggle to keep the front wheel down in second gear. (and sprockets will only cost ya like $100 so its worth the fun since they are like hour max to swap)

By the way, iam assuming you've already done all the other "cheap" performace stuff, like exhaust, PCIII (or PCV for your later busa), high flow filters etc (no K&N those are shit by the way)....

And, what would the cost be and , any other advice would be nice to hear . Bike is an '09 'Busa . Might attempt it myself but we've just sold the house ( With the workshop) . Bugger, so we're renting for the next year or so.

Just curious at this stage , any advice would be welcome, I'd be looking at retaining the original wheelbase, motor mods only and still rideable, welcome any advice ....
I have had alot to do with Jap cars, bigger turbos, tuning etc, the best lesson i have learnt is "buy a kit that fits" yes it may cost more, but most kits are complete, right down to ECU reflash/Piggyback

If you can fit yourself.. Great, if not ask around.. im sure there is as many "coyboys" in the bike world as we had in the jap car game.

A turbo will be better than a supercharger. That way you can fit a nice external wastey and BOV.

Thats half the fun of a turbo install - all the noise from the thing.

In terms of turboing , there has been a couple of busa turbos on the cliffhanger sprints , Spoke to one of these owners who ran mild boost and was getting 230 bhp on the back wheel. He was having minor issue with the piggyback arrangement on the ECU and was looking to sort an after market unit to replace both. The second bike was used during some NZ road speed record attempts , but had issues with getting airbourne resulting in engine damage, (I think the owner is on kiwibiker)

Easiest way would be to look for a complete kit that included turbo / manifold , pipework , rising rate fuel regulator, blowoff valve , ecu , higher flow fuel pump and plenty of development time. Otherwise pm catilover about turbos , he's done all his own work on a Ducati 900 ss based turbo engine.
