Watch this space; the RMA will suddenly dissolve and consents will be granted overnight. If it were the V8's going to Auckland (man, they dropped the ball there didn't they, pun intended) there'd be delaying tactics all over the show. Coz it's rugby it'll all happen overnight.

There are claims it'll be good for the economy; well when it's all said and done I'll be sure to let everyone know how much better off I am.

It suggests to me that a $100 million plan was going to go through until someone of influence objected for a bloody good reason and the project had to be shelved along with all of the associated backhanders... If they had a real plan, it would have been started by now... no backup plan from a government and private industry... not really surprised... it is 2011 next year right?

I'm glad they didn't just throw $100m at a useless idea - once the RWC is finished, it'd be useless.

If Auckland had fucked this up (almost a certainty) it would have been a disaster for all time. At least by putting a hold on "Party Central" so that a more balanced plan can be developed is only a good thing, IMHO.

If you ask me (and I'll consider this an implied asking) - they should build a decent cruise ship terminal on part of it and a public park on the rest. No apartments, no major retailing - almost a sanctury in the middle of the city.

I thought the artists impression shown in the Harold wasn't half bad. Replacing shabby old pier buildings with modern-styled interpretations of the same shape - as long as the tax payer doesn't have to pay through the teeth for some wanky architects plan then I don't see the problem.

To be honest it's starting to look like the whole planning of Rugby World Cup associated shit is a fuckup. You're right, the whole thing is a fuckup. why the hell is the rate payer and tax payer subsidising a private enterprise (eden park). that is bullshit. The infrastructure will not be ready in time, so traffic will be a clusterfuck, and the whole exercise will cost nz big time. Im over the whole, but its rugby its the most important thing we have. it's a fucking game!
