    Pirelli Angel STs

The best tyre I've found for the GSX1400 that lasts a "reasonable" distance has been the Michelin Pilot Road 2. It gives good grip in wet and dry and handles the low down torque quite well coming out of corners.

Haven't been able to get any due to worldwide demand through my local supplier. Had to settle for a Pirelli Angel St rear while I wore out the front PR2 a couple of months back.

The Angel St is a great tyre. Awesome feedback, saved me from a serious highside on Highway 22 a month or so back as it gave and slid for enough time for me to get everything back together again but must admit, it was fair howling and gave off a lot of burning rubber but feedback was brilliant.

BUT.... as great a tye as it's been, it lasted 2400kms and was just past legal limits when I got her changed today. I have a full set of Angels at the mo as still no PR2's in the shop. The front PR2 lasted 5200kms and I usually get around 3500kms out of a rear Pilot Road 2 .

I think the Angels would be great on super sport but I think the torque and weight of the 14 hasn't helped longevity,

You sure are hard on tyres!

Good to get feedback though, as I have a set of Angel's in the garage.

So does that mean you don't need change engine oil between rear tyres?

That's spectacular tyre wear. Even my FJR1300 would get between 11,000 and 12,000km out of a decent sports touring tyre. One presumes that most of those km are spent going hard around a race track?

Nope, no track days on those tyres. No two up riding, no burnouts, no wheelies.... just weekend scratching.

I was considering Angels after I was told they had incredible longevity.
I have been using PR 2CTs too and get 13,000 km out of the rear. (ridden lickity split)

I was thinking of Angels for the next replacement and expect to get double that distance. Being conscious of the rear stripping capability of the bike I don't do expensive launches from lights and shift early into 2nd.

I was going to be able to do that. I have a BT016 rear done 6000kms and I expect to get 9000kms. I agree the sides wear fast and that is all lost on the takas. Which indicates they wouldn't last long if I was doing more than an estimated 4% of riding on twisty roads. With that small percentage of cornering the rear is wearing nice and evenly all round - little in the way of a flat spot.

The testing indicates they will provide good longevity. I am sure I will get better life out of Angels than Beyond.
Question - do I stay with BT016 or go for the Angels? Anyone know how they compare for price?
    Here for the ride.

I used to use PR2's on the SVS - good for around 14 - 15000km per set. Usually the front scalloped out before the rear lost its hair...

The new bike has BT016's on it (not OEM's). After a couple of days riding on them, I have no fault to find with them - so far anyway. Seems the previous owner swapped them over at about 7000km...

Not sure what I will look at when change time rolls around...

Don't get me wrong. Not knocking the Angels as they are a very good tyre. I'm rough on rubber and love cornering. I whacked a rear BT020 in 2400kms as well as that was the original tyres on the bike when I bought it new. They were ok in the dry but lethal in the wet.

The Angels are a very good tyre and many people get very good wear from them. BUT on the 1400 the weight of the bike and cornering forces plus the torque takes their toll on tyres when pushed harder than normal.

Diablo Corsa's were chewed in no times as well as Dunlops so I settled for PR2's as they are slightly harder and still gave good wet weather grip. The Metzler Z6's were good as well with similar wear to the PR2's.

    Cheers
