Maybe the motorcyclist was about to overtake two cars, not realising that the front most car was intending to turn right of the main highway. Purely speculation of course. I wasn't there.
But I've had this almost happen to me once, people indicating at the same time as making the move instead of a couple of seconds before.
Poor buggars, all those who were involved, including the car drivers.
Have to agree with you on this one. Been in the same situation myself. Was all good though, managed to see the car indicate at the last minute. Have to keep your eyes open for anything.

[QUOTE=Katman;1129761570]To be honest I'm sitting here stunned.

The overtaking vehicle colliding with the right turning vehicle travelling in the same direction is one of the most common accident scenarios out there.

And you all sit here scratching your heads?

Yep, came close to the same thing yesterday, I was lucky some of Ixion's spidey had rubbed off.

Came up on a Sunday driver slowing down, no indication of what he's going to do (knew he was going to do something), then he swings right then puts blinker on then he looks in his mirror.

The look on his face was priceless, double headlights about 3m from him

I do seriously hope they both make a speedy recovery.
    Oh stop it !!!

The later models have brakes that might stop it in time

Agree with KM when he says he's stunned how some on here aint seen this before !

Most nose to tails are at a points such as where this happened, could easily see how a (lead?) bike with (slow brakes?) could plough into the side a car (who knows he could cause nose to tails by stopping ?) wanting to get across in a hurry !
A lot can happen in the time a car driver looks in his rear vision and sees he has traffic up his arse, then goes for it at a point where there is a break in the oncoming traffic, A bike could even have come up on the slower cars and seen the same break in oncoming traffic and thought now is a good time to pop out and get past !

Easily see how this could happen ? No ! I have had this happen ! I was lucky !

Feel sorry for the rider and his lady, the driver of the car and those who feel they should pin blame before the facts come out !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

Thats not some sixth-sense spidey mind-reading mumbo jumbo bee-ess, thats plain experience and roadcraft on display there. You should rightly give yourself a pat on the back - you probably saved a life or two there, or at least a few broken legs, probably yours.

I have had a couple of vehicles crackle up behind me at massive speed differential and overtake while I was indicating right. One of them at least would have killed everyone in my car had I taken my legal right-of-way.

These days I have less issues like this, as I seem to be able to wake people up beforehand. How I actually do that I don't know - maybe because I weave around like a demented idiot and everyone's scared of me!

I've had this as well - indicated to turn right into my (semi) rural driveway. Stopped on the median strip to wait for oncoming traffic. Checked mirror before turning, just in time to see 2 Harleys overtaking traffic on the median strip at 100K + (80kmh limit area). Clenched sphincter waiting for the impact - one went to my left, and the other to my right, over the double yellow line. If I hadn't checked mirror, we'd both (or all three) be toast ! This was coming home from the bikeoi ride.

I've also been in the other scenario, being the overtaker. Rural road, farm truck being overtaken who turned right with no indicator, into a concealed entrance. Bike written off, rider bruised badly but no broken bones. That was over 20 years ago, but I am very wary of that scenario now. In fact I think it was because of this that I avoided the dickheads in the situation above.

I thought the same. speculation: car pulls out right indicator blinking, bike pulls out behind car thinking car is overtaking then car brakes come on because he is STOPPING TO TURN and bike nails him in the right side door.

I have in fact nearly done exactly that myself once, luckily I was not going that fast and realised what was happening, so I could pull in. Gave me the shits though.

Good save! I bet they had some serious undie to empty after that. I've never had to yell "brace for impact!" though.

I'll be printing this excellent example out to show my learner-rider kids.

I DO know 'this crap' mostly.

But you can't tell me that nobody should ever be caught out by the front car suddenly veering to it's right without warning

And you can't tell me you go 'uh-oh' and hold back from passing because the car two on front of you is going past a small lane or driveway (which are obscured at times) or fishing spot, scenic stop, fruit-stall or is plain old overseas driver wanting to pull over.

Or maybe the guy was last in line to pass the car and it thought all the bikes were gone
    Or was tired
    Or distracted by his pillion.

There are endless scenarios that could lead to this type of crash, my 'professional driver' experience tells me that, Lord that you never get caught out in any way like that...

Take care on the road and keep alert people.
You forgot wanker road crew not sign posting after patching on a blind corner.

At least my bike with its loud exhaust makes the cager in front suddenly look in their rear view mirror and identify where that bloody noise is comming from, or the vibrations.

The worst I've had is while passing on a long straight, car comes out of a drive way looks right then turns left straight at me.
We all squeezed passed three abreast
