From the autobarn down 2 for a bit then turn off few some back roads to Morrinsvile, up and through Waterworks Rd (or somthing simular, I know a few options through here) linking up with some back roads out cambridge way before connecting up with the old Taupo Rd, then the western access into Turangi. THis is bassically the route we took last year, simplified of course. I cant be arsed doing a map becasue I have hit my data cap and this is all taking two long.
Option 2 was fun last year although parts of it are indelibly burned into my memory bank - filed under scary. That was because of my slippery rear tyre. Backing a Pan into corners Motard style is ... interesting.

Gremlins ride looks a good option.
I would suggest SH22 to the Raglan road as a better option for that section because the other way is dangerously boring.
Then comes a deviation I rode after the last Cold Kiwi and I loved it.
A bit further south cut West through Nutunui to SH31 - the Kawhia road- and then south around the bottom of the harbour to Te Anga - hang a right and meander down through Marakopa and Waikawau to Awakino. The views and the road (not shown on the Google map) are very worthwhile. The road was brand new - bit of loose gravel on top here and there but not a problem as I was only racing the weather. ( I discovered Fronts move really fast.) .. and I won!

Yea parts of that road did get a bit nasty in places for us all, the weather really didnt play ball all weekend last year.

Well that worries me solely for the reason it took you about two weeks to get home from Cold Kiwi. We only have a day Hinny

For the record Qkkid was in my bed, not the other way round

For Friday, and for that matter Saturday and Sunday if the weather turns to crap, we should bring our best party tricks. Perhaps a magic show or something.
Here's a pretty good party trick.

Well it doesn't look like I can make it.

I was supposed to have moved into my new house by now but I haven't. We move in next weekend.

I have a love/hate relationship with renovations now.
