The latest in my quest for a decent dual sport helmet...
I have tried a few of the cheaper brands, HJC and FFM, fit is OK, but there are so many sacrifices in terms of visor shape (distortion and strange reflections) and opening ability of the visor (ie it doesnt!)
So I had just about decided to bite the bullet and shell out for an Arai. I have used their Road and MX helmets for years and I always thought they fitted me better than a shoei (Arai head! - is that a condition!)
I had scanned ebay US, Oz and UK, finally found some in Japan for good money - about $600 shipped, but was still being tight and hanging on to my cash in the hope that something would happen....what?...who knows, lotto win maybe!
Then Crazy frog appears and has one in the perfect colour and size for me! Yay!
Hope it arrives on monday and I will report back on the folly of compromise and only getting what you pay for etc, etc.
Or not, if it turns out the same as the HJC!

Happy to help Gav! At the end of the day, I loved the Arai but it was surplus to my needs as my riding has crossed over to the dirt, and with it being a good snug fit, I would get hot too quickly, time for an open helmet and goggles.
You should be happy with it, it's a great lid and serviced it's purpose well, but I couldn't justify keeping it to use 3-4 times a year when I might do a longer road ride on the EXC. The EXC is not really the machine I'd want to do long distance on anyway, I think the seat would cut me in half, but hell, the trail riding has got a whole lot more exciting.

I bought a Shoei Hornet coupla weeks back, had a chance to take it out now and I luv it, on Thursday night we weighed it against the Arai, Grex and various others with super digital scales, the Shoei came in 60 grams lighter than the Grex and 120 grams lighter than the Arai.

While weight is not everything it does make a difference while swinging around on your nut all day.

General opinion was that the Shoei Hornet was the better pick (pending head shape of course).

We are now looking for a small Shoei Hornet for Ellen.

Hi all, said I would post back with feedback on the Arai TourFX lid that I got from Crazy frog - Thanks!
Anyway, my quest is over! A perfect helmet for me!
    Lighter than my road arai's
Peak is large enough to stop heaps of sun glare - and mud!
Excellent aerodynamics - no peak grab
Perfect vision - no distortion (even got a tinted visor as well - fantastic for that early am low sun)
Really good ventilation that turns off and on easily
    Washable liner
Sooooo comfortable - I love those arai cheeks!
Seems pretty quiet - certainly no whistles. Fantastic with earplugs!
And, best of all, no skulls, flames, lightening flashes, or other power ranger stuff!

    I love my arai!!!
It seems that you do get what you pay for in the end...
The search is over....and thanks to Crazy Frog pretty cheap as well, double cool!

Re the Zeus 2100b... Does anyone know who holds decent stock in Auckland? I have tried a few shops and not seen a 2100b among the Zeus helmets on offer.

Also my head fits a Shoei well. How does the 2100b compare to Shoei for shape?

Or if you have a brand new Hornet in small you only want $250 for, please feel free to PM me

I'm after trying on a 2100 or 2100b (or an FFM Matrix for that matter) to get sizing and check the fit. I have a Raid 2 which is a great helmet but I don't want to bang it about too much, so a $200 helmet with a peak will suit me better for ADV use, especially as my talents are limited and I am likely to fall off again.

They're available brand new on Tardme from seller eMoto for $186. This was their response to a question about visors, blanking plates and colours for the 2100b:
A: Sorry but the importer only brings in the Titanium colour or the black, there are smoke visors avail RRp $ 69.00 and as for the blanking plates they are not bringing them in at this stage, hiope this helps.

    Cheers - Chasio
